Today was our last full day of the trip. Once again we slept in and left the house at midday, but this time we headed straight to the grocery store instead of to a restaurant. We were off to have a picnic in Vondelpark! On the way we found a cute little doughnut shop so we got a few treats from here, then at the grocery store we filled the bags with rolls, cheese and biscuits, grapes, strawberries, water, chips, and stroopwafels (Dutch treats). We headed off to Vondelpark and had a lovely few hours eating and playing cards and experiencing all the sounds and smells of Vondelpark (pigeons cooing and marijuana, respectively). After this we headed to the iAmsterdam sign, where we climbed on top of it and got some awesome photos! It wasn’t very ... read more

Had another big sleep in after another late night! This actually has more perks than disadvantages: we get enough sleep, we end up staying out later til it actually gets dark, and the bnb we’re in doesn’t have a kitchen so we have to eat all our food out, and by leaving the house at midday we only have to buy lunch and dinner! Another restaurant we’d been looking at for a while was Mook, a cute little pancake place. So we headed there and received breakfast at 12:45pm! My pancakes were topped with blueberries, strawberries, bananas and maple syrup, and Trudi’s with peanut butter, chocolate and blackberries. We then headed out to see what the markets of Amsterdam are like! We headed to Waterlooplein, where we got some more souvenirs and I bought some pants ... read more

Today was officially our first day in Amsterdam. We decided that since Amsterdam is an incredibly small city, and we’re only here for 3-4 days, and it’s our last city for the trip, that we would just take this time to chill out. Have a really nice relaxing few days in Amsterdam before heading home, and not pressure ourselves to do too much. Today was the perfect day to start that, since because of our late night last night we slept in until 10am! We left the bnb at 12 and headed straight to brunch- The Avocado Show. This is a restaurant that we have been so excited to go to since before we even added Amsterdam to our trip. It’s basically a restaurant based on avocado- every single item on the menu is avocado based. ... read more

Short blog here to let readers take a break from the massive ones recently. Had a great first day in Amsterdam! Well, the afternoon was great. We had another day of sitting in Maccas all morning waiting for check in. We left Brussels at 7:50am, on a train that took almost two hours to get to Amsterdam. Check in was at 2pm, and by the time we’d gotten off the train and walked all the way to a maccas close to the air bnb, it was only 10:30am. So, we played cards and watched some videos and gawked at the lady standing outside the toilet asking people for 50 cents to use it for almost three hours. We left at 1:30pm and were able to check in straight away. We spent about half an hour settling ... read more

I. LOVE. BRUSSELS. It’s pretty much just Paris but specifically for young people. The copious amounts of Belgian beer and chocolate is balanced by the numerous organic restaurants and the people are so friendly!! We left our horrendous Airbnb in Montmartre (not sure if I mentioned all the issues with it, it’s too late now but it was not a great stay) at 6:50am, and walked all the way to Gare du Nord. Once there we had an hour before the train arrived (we left early to avoid problems that we seem to keep having with trains!), so we decided to actually have breakfast. We got pain au chocolats (our last one for a long time) and I also grabbed a peach smoothie. The train was only an hour and a half long, and after attempting ... read more

Had our last day in France today, I have loved being here but I won’t be as sad to leave it as I was England and Scotland. I think this is probably due to the amount of work it takes to have conversations with people and navigate our way around! Because we’ve had to wake up super early for the past couple of days, and have had some pretty late nights, we decided not to set an alarm today and sleep in. We also decided that for our last day in this beautiful country we’d stop being tourists and do as the locals do. So, we left the bnb at midday and headed to Sacré Coeur Cathedral, to see how the locals pray. On the way up we stopped into a few cute little stores to ... read more

Had an amazing day at Disneyland Paris!! We headed off quite early and were there by 9:30am, and even though the park opened at 10am we were allowed on the kids carousel early (yay!). Unfortunately at Disneyland, at least the Paris one, there are only three thrill rides, and the rest are kid friendly. So we started off with Big Thunder Mountain (roller coaster), headed to Indiana Jones and Le Temple du Peril (another roller coaster, this time with a 360 degree spin) and then at 11am discovered we were super hungry. We’d had a small breakfast at 7am of yoghurt with cereal with (I’m pretty sure) negative nutritional value (at the supermarket yesterday we bought an 8 pack of those small boxes of cereals, I think everyone knows the ones I’m talking about?). So we ... read more

Had a pretty chilled out day today activities wise, but it was once again pretty stressful! We checked out of the Bordeaux hotel and asked the front desk to call us a taxi to the train station, as it was 8:20am and we didn’t think we’d be able to flag one down that early. They said it would be a 20 minute wait, which wasn’t ideal (our train was at 9am) but we didn’t have any other choice- it would have taken a lot longer to walk. The taxi arrived after 14 minutes which we thought was a good sign, but it turns out he was a taxi driver from hell. Okay, maybe not from hell, but from a very annoying frustrating place. He put our bags in the boot, and seemed to have a hard ... read more

What. A. Day. We left our wonderful little air bnb in central Paris this morning at 7:30am to head off to Bordeaux. We got a subway to Gare Montparnasse (the big train station in Paris that takes you to other cities), and we made sure we were there by 8:20am, as our train was at 8:48am and the ticket asked us to be 20 minutes early. So, we got to Gare Montparnasse in the “subway-to-other-suburbs” area and it was really hard to find our way to the bigger, inter-city part. After climbing and descending multiple sets of stairs (one where a man silently offered to carry my suitcase down the steps and I thought he was stealing it, oops), we finally made it to what looked like a bigger part of the station. We asked the ... read more

Actually left the apartment at a reasonable time this morning- 8:50am! We saw a nice looking cafe on our first day and since it’s our last day in this area we decided to go there for breakfast. It’s a cute little cafe called Zouzou, and it was quite nice but my GOODNESS food in Europe is expensive. It was €5,5 ($8.60) for a chai latte, and €8 ($12.60) for two poached eggs and some bread. After breakfast we headed off to a random station and hopped on a subway to Versailles!! (Also, the subways here are double decker...I hate Brisbane). We got to Versailles and headed with about 100 hundred other tourists to the Palace. On first appearance, the Palace didn’t actually look too amazing. Half of it was covered in a fake mesh image of ... read more
