Leaving Nice to go to Berlin today. Been looking around for an easy way to get to Riga which is where I wanted my next stop to be, but it turned out to be either too expensive, or take too long time (spending time in London waiting for another plane). So I booked a flight to Berlin, plan is to stay there for a few days and then catch a bus back to Sweden. It's been a few days since my last blog, I havn't really done much, just taking it easy here, meeting people at the hostel. Went out with a nice australian couple one of the nights. They had a guidebook mentioning a pub called Jonathan's - just had to go there! After a few other stops and lots of walking around the same ... read more

I've been in Nice for almost two days now. The humidity is worse then the heat itself, all in all it's nice (ha...ha) here. I arrived like 21.30 on sunday so I didn't get to do much then. Yesterday I spent at the beach with some people from Australia. I've been seeing lots of australian people here in France. Seems most of them are doing the Busabout thing through europe. We also walked around in the old town with its market and winding streets with little shops all over. At evening I found this little Vietnamese restaurant, I was the only customer and had the full attention of the old man who appeared to own it. Has some very interesting food and a lesson about what it was :) Started with Vietnamese Ravioli, which are some ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris July 23rd 2005

This will be my last day in Paris, bought the ticket to go to Nice for tomorrow. Since there's so much people about and I'll be arriving late on a sunday, I also booked a stay at a central hostel in Nice. Spent last night at a "Club" in St Michael called "the Saint", fairly small but most the people there were dancing and having fun. Today I've been in Notre Dame together with massive amounts of tourists. Read about the bombs in London and now in Sinai, dunno what to say... what do they plan to accomplish???... read more

It takes exactly one hour and thirty minutes to walk from Champs Elysée to Gare du Lyon, if you didn't know... That's one of the options you have if you miss the last transport home at night. Other options would include a combination of busses and taxi, taxi all the way, hitching a ride, or just waiting till the morning... none of which felt like a good option at the time. I wanted to see Paris by Night, there were lots of people everywhere, but in a blink almost all of them went away with the last train/bus. Oh well, the walk back along the Seine wasn't that bad. Today, I've been walking around in the Louvre - for three hours, and I still missed a lot of stuff. At the end I wasn't looking that ... read more

Walked around most all day, ended up in Montmartre and by the Sacré Coeur. Got to practice my french some more in shops and restaurants :) I've also confirmed they park just as bad as I had heard they do here. Saw one guy bounce both the car behind and the one in front of his several times trying to park between them untill he finally gave up and drove away...... read more

Bonjour! I arrived in Paris yesterday, lovely city :) Although I do know some french, it is evident that I know way less then I'd need to manage without english. I bought a miniature travel phrase book / dictionary which is very handy in freshing up my memory with the french I'm fairly certain I did know while I was still in school ;) The hostel I wanted to stay at (which is very central) is fully booked (surprise surprise), but I found a nice one close enough and with the excelent Metro and RER it's not really a hassle to get around. The english I thought had lots of cameras all over London and in most public places, this however is insane... when I entered the hostel I could count to no less then 10 ... read more

Yeah, I feel ready to continue my route. Moved to Ashlee House today (Youth Hostel), which is cheaper and quite nice even if it is a bit further away. Got a train-ticket to Paris for tomorrow morning so that's where I'm going next :) Yesterday I walked all the way to the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge, took the bus back since I was starting to feel the effects of the blazing sun. Had a chat with the guy at the hotel lobby (Japanese student), didn't quite get what he was doing in London, but he had been in the UK for almost two years now. He recommended some brazilian nightclub in Soho that he thought would be open on a sunday. I never did found it and nobody else seemed to know about ... read more

I've mostly been visiting the parks today, slacking in the sun. Getting to know my way around London, which isn't so hard. Walked bare-foot through Green Park, felt great after a day in shoes! Checked out the stores at Kensington High street, found a nice sushi place for dinner. After that I cought a bus to Piccadilly Circus and ended up on the back-streets of Soho with its "adult" movies and inviting girls at the entrances promising a great show inside...... read more

The flight with RyainAir went great, we even arrived 10 minutes before schedule :) At Stansted I decided to take the £2 cheaper and slightly slower coach/bus instead of the train. As it turned out, I was soon to regret that. The bus is supposed to take an hour and half or so, when we after about an hour of travel was just outside of London the driver started to act strange, looking out to the right as if wanting to change lanes. There was lots of traffic so she was unable to do that and kept stearing back to the left lane, after the road split in two she pulled over to a bus stop, took up her mobile and went out of the bus. I thought she missed the turn and decided to call ... read more

I went to Gothenburg to visit my brother today, the flight to London leaves fairly early tomorrow so I figured I'd rather spend the night in Gothenburg then get up in the middle of the night to catch the train. As Sven had gotten a hold of a whole bunch of hair-mousse they made some freaked out 80's hair display...... read more
