Wasn't all that disappointed leaving Tanger. Unfortunatelly all the couchettes in the night-train to Marrakesh were full. Choosing between going back into Tanger and staying another night or buying the unreserved seats for the 11 hour train to Marrakesh, we chose the train. Worked out good at first, but only lasted one station untill there were enough pasengers to fill up every last seat. Finally arrived in the morning after a night without much sleep at all. It's hot here, EuroWeather says it's been 39 degrees most of the day and I don't doubt it. After sleeping a few hours at an hotell (with AC!) we've spent the day walking around in the medina amongst all the markets and sales people. There's a never ending labyrinth of paths to walk along and merchandise a plenty everywhere ... read more

The ferry was delayed even further by a bit of rough weather, so we quickly gave up the idea of being able to catch a night-train. Thrown straight into the hustlers, beggars and general differences in culture took us a bit by surprise even though we should have expected it, a man throwing himself at our feet, kissing the ground and our shoes - what's a good responce to that? After a nights sleep the city looks a lot more friendly in daylight, walking around the medina (central town). After walking around and looking at things, trying the local mint-tea and various sweet things we walked up, up and further up the hills. We eventually got out of the crowded areas and to what looked more fancy. The guards outside a big white place, enlightened us ... read more

There's always plenty of Hotels and hostels in Sevilla it seems, had no problems finding somewhere to stay. Just stayed one night since we didn't really have anything specific to do in Sevilla. We just wanted to do the crossing to Marocco as soon as possible. After another few hours of trains, we switched to the last one bound for Algeciras and were promptly thrown off together zwith all the other passengers by a grumphy conductor. He were saying something about a fire in spanish and that the train could not leave, there would be a bus to take us instead. Waited for the bus for about an hour, then we could board the train again since the fire was now under control. During the trip we saw the burnt grass still smoking next to the ... read more

After recommendations from the ticket clerk we took the train from Porto to Albufeira, a small city not even om our map, but close to Faro in the south of Portugal. It was supposed to be the "party town" of Portugal - something we just had to see... We arrived there at about 22.30 or so, at the train station far out of the city centre. The plan was to catch a bus from there but as we soon discovered the last one left at 19.00. Waited a while by the taxi stop with a bunch of other tourists and then decided walking looked like a good option since no taxis wanted to turn up and the central taxi number had no cabs to send. Some local couple stopped us though, claiming it wasn't a good ... read more

Pri has her roots here, so naturally we had to visit :) Amongst other things we walked around in the very non-tourist streets of Matoshinos which was a nice change. Got a copy of the birth-certificate of her grandmother, but it turned out to be more difficult to find an address where she had lived before emigrating to Brasil. We also took a boat-trip on the Porto river and under the six bridges there.... read more

So we've been staying with the Urban House hostel, it's all very basic but the staff is really nice and they arrange lots of activities. On thursday evening we decided to follow along on their Basque Gastronomic tour with traditional basque food and customs. Pri stayed behind doing other stuff though. Thursday Night: This event is held each thursday night and cost €25 to join, and is highly recommended for a nice time. The evening started at the main office with about 20-25 people or so trying to drink wine from a leather sachet. This is done by holding the sachet from a distance of 0.5-1 meter from your mouth and by squeezing the sachet getting the wine to hit your mouth... trying not to miss. A nice surprice was a group of young girls walking ... read more

We arrived at 10.44, found the tourist-info and had just had time to sit down outside considering where to start looking for a hostel to stay. A girl walks up and recruits us to their hostel with a speach of the basque culture. She manages to find us three beds - not exactly cheap by €26, but ok considering where we are and not booking ahead quite ok. They also arrange lots of events such as the traditional basque dinner that I think we'll be trying tonight. Havn't had time to do much more here today, it's too cold and windy to stay at the beach. They say it's supposed to be expensive here, but after a good dinner with newly made juice for under €7 (remember - we just came from Paris and live in ... read more

I'm back in Paris this year too, but now I've got the company of my amigo Viking and his gf Priscila visiting from Brazil. We've been talking about railing through europe for many years now but there's always been something coming in the way to stop us. This year - before getting too old to get the interrail youth-pass we figured was the time! After some last-minute late night packing we began our journey by going to Stockholm monday morning to buy Interrail cards and possibly a Eurail pass for Pri (since she's not from Europe). After some convincing and thanks to a nice guy at Stockholm central it was decided we could all three get interrail cards since Pri had visited here this winter and has applied for a swedish visa. Feels like it's gonna ... read more

This summer I'm going to travel around europe by train with a friend and his girlfriend. She's from Brazil, so can't get the same rail-pass but the Eurail and Interrail seems similar enough for our needs. We'll be leaving in a few days if all goes well. As it's Priscilas first time in Sweden during summer, we had to show her one of the most swedish traditions we have - Midsummer! We decided to go visit my parents who live on the countryside for some festivities. Driving up it looked like it does most in early swedish summers, ie. raining. Comming this far though, we decided to challenge the rain and armed with umbrellas we began the walk to Baldersnäs under cloudy skies. Just as we arrived the sun broke through and the skies cleared, it ... read more

I arrived in Berlin last night. After a detour on the wrong train from the airport I found my way to the hostel an hour later then expected ;) Found two guys from Norway who knew this alternative place, it's a community driven café/bar/club where the alternative people gather. Artists, punk-people, homo community, just everyone "else" :) This night they had live performances by a few different Sing & Songwriters and as main artist "Kitty". Small time singer mixing the voice of Elin Sigvardsson with an electric guitarr and drums. All in all I found the place and the people to be more interesting then the music. Didn't bring the camera there unfortunately. Today I walked around in Berlin for hours, went to Checkpoint Charlie and the Topography of Terror exhibition. I'm kind of tired of ... read more
