Geo: 39.0183, -94.2748We had an easy 4 hour drive from St. Charles to Blue Springs, Missouri (20 miles east of Kansas City). We made a stop in Columbia to visit University of Missouri. UM was the first vet school to request an interview with Sarah. (She went ahead and declined the interview after Michigan State accepted her.) It was a nice campus but I think Cornell is much more impressive....except for maybe football. There is not much in Blue Springs, but we are staying at a campground that is close to a lake. We spent the day biking and chilling. We cooked dinner around the campfire, and finished cooking just before the rain started. This is actually the first rain we have had during the day, and that was just while we were eating dinner. We have driven ... read more

Geo: 38.6276, -90.199Today, we woke to a relaxing morning at the RV site. Then, we drove to a Metro stop on the outside of the city, and took the train into St. Louis. The first thing we did was went up to the top of the "Gateway To The West" arch. We noted that the arch was started in 1963 and completed in 1965. I think I went there not too long after it opened....maybe 1968 (Mom, check me on this). But, this was Sheila's first trip. Awesome view of the city. Then, we did a riverboat tour along the Mississippi River, followed by lunch at the Budweiser Restaurant next to the Busch Stadium. We also toured the Old Courthouse, most famously known for housing the Dred Scott vs. Sanford case in 1847. This was the first case ... read more

Geo: 38.7824, -90.482We left Mammoth Caves National Park this morning a little after 6:00 am, drove through the southwest tip of Indiana, southern Illinois, and into St. Louis, MO a little after noon. A lot of flat farmland.....not a lot of interesting sights along the way. Still no rain though. We decided to stay in a little historic town just across the river from St. Louis, St. Charles. It has an awesome street lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. The street is a little over a mile from the campground, so we road our bikes in for lunch and then again for dinner. Tomorrow, we plan to take the Metro into St. Louis to check out the Gateway to the West, and the rest of the city. ... read more

Geo: 37.1831, -86.15We had another great road trip day. We left Morehead a little after 8:00 am, went across the time zone into Central Time, and arrived at Mammoth Caves around 11:30 am CT. We drove around Lexington, Kentucky and passed the Keaneland Horse Track, that was surrounded by rolling hills with white fences....definitely what we think of when we think of Kentucky. We we then stopped by Lincoln's birthplace in Hodgenville, Kentucky, before heading on to Mammoth Caves. Mammoth Caves has the distinction of being the longest cave system in the world, with over 400 miles of documented tunnels. We did 2 miles of them. It was pretty impressive. On to St. Louis, MO tomorrow. It is a 6 hour drive but it is supposed to rain tomorrow, so we will see how far we ... read more

Geo: 38.1839, -83.4328We headed out from Blacksburg a little after 10:00 this morning. Drove about 265 miles today; Rt 460 into West Virginia, I-77 N to I-64 W to Morehead, Kentucky. It was a beautiful drive through the mountains, and there was very little traffic. We drove into Daniel Boone National Forest about 8 miles off of I-64 and drove up to the ranger station at Twin Knobs Campground even though the sign at the entrance said the campground was full. The ranger said, "Oh yeah, we have plenty of sites. We just didn't change the sign." We got a great site near the lake. The plan is to head to Mammouth Caves tomorrow.... read more
