Geo: 38.5733, -109.549We did brunch in Salt Lake City this morning, took the kids through Temple Square, and hit the road to Moab. It was a 4 hour drive, but we arrived in Moab around 3:30. It really looked like we could get hit with a storm. We could see it in the distance, and the wind was kicking when we set up camp. But, it is beautiful now.Hopefully, we will cook out tonight and play a little guitar around the fire.Gonna explore Arches Nation Park tomorrow, before we head to our hotel in the town at Moab. White water rafting starts Tuesday morning, and we will be camping along the river for 3 nights. So, after tomorrow, you won't hear from us until after the white water rafting trip. I know....it is going to be ... read more

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888We had a beautiful leisurely drive from East Canyon to Salt Lake City. It took about 1-1/2 hours, but it was a less "puckered" drive than yesterday. We arrived in Salt Lake City around 9:30 am, went to the hotel, the room was already available, and they let us park the RV in the alley right behind the hotel. And, the door to the alley opens right into the hotel lobby. Excellent! The hotel is literally across the street from Temple Square, the home of the Mormon/Later-Day Saints church. We toured the grounds, and then walked to the "artsy" restaurant area.Just picked up Sean and Sarah at the airport. Gonna hit a bar and then hit the beds.... read more

Geo: 40.9044, -111.595We explored more of Park City this morning. The city has a great free shuttle bus system that takes you to all of the surrounding ski areas. So, we jumped on the bus and rode it to the neighboring areas around Park City. We got back to town around noon, ate lunch at another of the many restaurants on Main Street, and jumped in the RV.We only went 30 miles from Park City, back toward Salt Lake City. We did a side adventure to East Canyon State Park, but had to traverse 15 miles of winding, steep roads to get there. Sheila admitted later that she had her eyes closed part of the way!We are going to try a different route back to Salt Lake City. It is about 20 minutes longer, but it ... read more

Geo: 40.6432, -111.494It was only an 88 mile drive from the Great Salt Lake to Park City, home of the 2002 Olympics and the annual Sundance Film Festival. We did have to drive up some steep stretches of interstate, but the RV kept chugging along.Park City is a really cool town and we are staying in a hotel right along Main Street. There are a bunch of shops, bars, restaurants, and museums. We had a great time!... read more

Geo: 41.4092, -112.035We had a beautiful drive from Flaming Gorge to the Great Salt Lake. It was only about 185 miles and we took state roads for a lot of the way.We arrived at a campground by the lake around 11:30 and was told that we could not check in until 3:00. She suggested that we visit the bird reserve about 10 miles up the coast. We probably would not have stumbled upon that ourselves so we were glad that she suggested it.We got back to the campground around 3:15, rode bikes for a while, and are ready for happy hour and grilling out.We are on our way to Park City, Utah tomorrow. (Anne, thanks for the suggestion. It looks awesome.) Then, back to Salt Lake City by Saturday to explore the city and meet our ... read more

Geo: 40.9881, -109.722We left the Elk Mountain Hotel this morning and continued west on I-80 for about 180 miles. The wind was kicking up again across the vast nothingness of flatlands. It was pretty intense trying to judge the gusts while they were pushing around our little RV.Once we left the interstate in Green River, WY, we went about 50 miles south on a scenic road that winded up and around the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area that splits Wyoming and Utah.We pulled into the Lucerne Valley Campground and set up on the bank of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir around lunchtime.Sheila is out for her second run of the day. We will hang out here until tomorrow, then off to Salt Lake City and/or the Great Salt Lake.... read more

Geo: 41.6875, -106.413We left Ogallala, Nebraska this morning around 6:30 am and drove the scenic route around Lake McConaughy. We heard on the radio that they measured winds yesterday at 71 mph where we were...that was breezy.Once we got to the west side of Nebraska, we finally reached some interesting landscape. We went by Chimney Rocks and Scott's Bluff today. And, then we made it into Wyoming. We drove through Cheyenne and was not too impressed, so we went on to Laramie. We went to the "History of Prisons in Wyoming" museum in Laramie, which was surprisingly interesting, but the town was not impressive. So, we kept driving. We ended up at a Bed and Breakfast in Elk Mountain, WY....about 350 miles for the day. (We could not find any campgrounds for another 50 miles.) We had ... read more

Geo: 41.1281, -101.719Alright, alright, alright.....we made it to Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. It is a beautiful 30,000 acre lake surrounded by sand beaches and campgrounds. But, it was not without some effort to get here. We drove through a torrential downpour in the middle of the plains of Nebraska, with some insane wind, and a little bit of hail. Everyone was doing about 35 on the interstate, and we actually pulled off in a rest area for a few minutes until the rain and wind let up. There were some nasty clouds too....we were looking for a funnel cloud but never saw one.The rest of the drive was great....a little gusty but very flat. And, we are now in the mountain time zone. Off to Wyoming tomorrow.... read more

Geo: 40.8136, -96.7077After a 4 hour drive from Missouri, through the southwest corner of Iowa, and into Nebraska, we arrived at Lincoln. We found a campground about 3 miles from campus, and checked in. We then drove back to campus and walked around. It was a large campus with all of the academic buildings co-located, and the football stadium right on the edge of campus. There is a cool area right off campus called Haymarket District with plenty of restaurants and bars. That is where we had lunch before heading back to the campground. We rode our bikes to a local sports bar for dinner and to watch UVA in the baseball championships, and the NBA Western ... read more
