It is always a lovely feeling to wake up and be greeted by a gentle thought . Thich Nhat Hanh had come up trumps this morning with his thought for the day . It was about feelings . I felt like staying in bed. Lying there , turning over and going back to sleep . I did not feel like wandering round the shop walking the aisles looking at food I did not fancy to eat . I was still mortified . France cancelled . Another holiday gone the same way as the last . Another date booked . Anticipation hopeful that third time lucky would apply knowing full well it the holiday would be cancelled again . I didnt turn over though - I ripped off the thought from yesterday and read . A gentle ... read more

Have you noticed with Covid and the new normal that all the days seem to run into one ? It is hard to distinguish a Saturday from a Sunday. Saturday quiet . Sunday quiet apart from the church bells . Depending on the wind that may be our local church or one further away. Saturday no swim. Sunday swim. The days drift into each other . Saturday cleaning . Sunday more cleaning . The weather seems the only topic of different conversation . Apart from will we ever find a house . Disappointed at the response of the estate agents on Friday we find ourselves scouring the pages of Right Move just in case we have missed something that might just be "our " house . Or something new has come on for sale . Most ... read more

Thursday - another day . We made the decision early to cancel our house viewings for tomorrow . We thought what's the point . Yesterdays viewers had not come back to us . We had a plan if they rang to see two houses and meet up with Sions best friend Woolly Mammoth . It was with a sadness that we cancelled the visit to Sions friend . He had been waiting two years to see his best friend . So he was disappointed . "Disappointed - I was gutted . So gutted I had to raid the fridge and eat all the strawberries and cream I found there . So gutted that I ate all the crisps and the chocolate biscuits . So gutted I refused to talk to anyone " Sion sadly ate us ... read more

Who would have thought I would be writing blogs about Chesterfield on such a regular basis . They were never my intention . I wrote the first Chesterfield number 59 over five months ago without any idea that today I would be in August and writing number 174. There was never going to much of interest to write home about . A walk , a trip to the supermarket under lockdown . A complaint about having to cancel the Scandanavian holiday . No swimming , daily broadcasts from the Prime Minister or one of his sidekicks . A lack of flour and eggs . Looking back I never expected this to be still going on and ruining - yes ruining our lives . I sat early on enjoying the Spring sunshine . Sitting in the garden ... read more

Day 148 Sunday - Week 33 of the year. Week 22 of Covid 19. 229 days gone done and dusted and another 137 left to go. We left Hay and decided to head for the tiny towns of Knighton and Presteigne. We ended up at Presteigne first and parked up on a small car park just behind the police station . The lovely town offered us free parking for 2 hours . Just enough to explore this small border town . Presteigne is in welsh called Llanandras and stands on the River Lugg. It has the title of the Gateway to Wales due to its position . Its border wraps round three sides of the town . We were never to see the town though . The police station was closed . The town deserted . ... read more

What is the connection between books , a literary festival and an unwelcome visit for Gabby ?. It is Hay on Wye another lovely town on the River Wye. We guessed that Ross on Wye and Hay on Wye would be very similar in character . Small towns with narrow streets full of book shops. Another Butter Market and lots of shops, cafes and pubs . What was different a large and empty car park . Hay welcomed us with plenty of room to park up our hotel on wheels . There were few cars and an area at the bottom of the car park with grass over which Gabbys derrier could park . An added bonus the lovely town had offered us 2 hours free parking . This would give us enough time to have ... read more

Where in the world is Gabby the motorhome? Parked up on a tiny strip of parking alongside the park in Ross on Wye. It is just wide enough to get her in with her tyres an inch or so into the road. We should be OK . It is quiet . It is Saturday morning and Ross on Wye is as quiet as a churchyard . Across the road is a park and in it are a handful of walkers and rows upon rows of kayaks. Chained up. We cannot stop here the night . It is just not suitable for our girl Gabby . There are no other car parks so this is a quick walk through to see what Ross has to offer. We woke early . Our body clocks seem intent on waking ... read more

Ok we are off to Caerleon . Our camper stop book tells us that there is a good night stop in the town so off we set . The drive back over the Severn was not the most brilliant . The rain picked up and splattered Gabbys windscreen . The metronomic rhythym of the wipers broke the silence . We had not expected to be driving even more miles today. More miles of stop and start . Things had not improved going the opposite direction . Nor had the lateness of the day improved it by one jot . We did though eventually get to the Severn crossing . The new bridge named after the Prince of Wales . An iconic bridge with a bit of a history . No-one particularly wanted it named after an ... read more

I wonder what has happened to us. Covid has changed everything. Not for the good. It is Monday and the start of week 21. Week 33 of 2020. Day 223 of the year. A year that feels wasted . My head is sore . An arguement with the corner of a window frame . I wont rise up so quickly from my knees in future. I looked like the mad axeman had attacked me with blood running down my face . I know I am clumsy . How many times have I fallen over and grazed my hands and knees . Well nothing compared to the pain in my head today. A trip to the local A & E. Now that is a novelty and I guess made a change from sitting at home . So ... read more

Where in the world is Gabby the motorhome . She has been travelling . As far as Exeter in Devon but lets just roll back the clock as the plan did not quite come together. Day 137 - A Thursday I think . That would make Day 138 a week last Friday and Day 139 Saturday . With a week gone iento the ether I cannot remember much about those three days . They came and they went . Our days dont seem to have much structure . Thursday swim, Thursday work , Thursday a viewer for the house. Another day of being nice. A day of trying to be welcoming . A day of trying to pick up on the good things about our home and why we want to leave it Showing off the ... read more
