The End of a Dream. Beatrice was filled with joy and a degree of trepidation when she at last set food in India. This was something that she had wanted to do for a very long time, but family responsibilities and a career had not made it possible, until now. She knew that the poverty would be difficult to cope with but she also knew that pretending it didn’t exist was not an option either. The village was basic. No running water in any of the small dark dirt, homes and certainly no electricity. Their animals, mostly goats slept in a corner of the one room houses with them at night on a bed of straw. But oh the welcome! These poor people who seemed almost forgotten by the rest of the world wanted to share ... read more

Yesterday morning I got up at my usual time of 5a.m. for yoga, but when I saw the mist laying like a gossamer blanket I decided to take photographs instead. The spider webs were stunning. Yes I am still frightened of spiders but the webs looked too exquisit to miss. Although I dislike them, these little creatures are truly amazing architects. Click on the photos to enlarge them and get a better look at these works of art - the webs, not my photos! Not a lot to say, just feeling wonderful in this peaceful place. ... read more
This web looks like strings of pearls.
Diamonds of dew.
Look closely, you can see the amazing little architect hiding in the top canopy of her web.

Before I left on my trip this year I visited my most favourite school where I have worked for many years, Nairne Primary in the Adelaide hills. Leanne and Rob’s class, two great teachers and friends also, had made a funny book which they then sold to children and parents and made a profit of $130. They very kindly presented it to me to give to a school or orphanage in need that I may have found on my travels. Well as you can imagine, there are so many places in need that it is not an easy job. I also had to consider whether the school would use the money correctly. Luckily I knew of just such a school in Nepal. Bibhuti International School - called international purely because English is taught, just so important ... read more
$130 worth of books. Thank you Nairne Primary School.
Then the job of stamping and covering the books began.
Even the principal could not resist reading some of the books we had bought.

I went to see a friend in Naudana, A beautiful place to be sure. But when I arrived at the village, What I got was a little bit more. It was rainy season on the ridge, Falling from day until night. There were snow capped mountains above us, But the clouds kept them hidden from sight. We had fun playing cards in Naudana, But I frequently felt in a daze, I never quite knew what I was doing, Maybe it was the pot filled haze! They have a rustic bathroom at Naudana, It also has a splendid view. It’s a bit damp with lots of mosquitoes, And naturally has a squat loo. I was using the loo early one morning, When I spotted something I fear. There near where I was squatting, A huge arachnid, ... read more

My second one, the Green Tara retreat was the real deal. Truly amazing, but difficult to explain. It’s one of those things where you’ve really got to be there and experience it. Powerful, and has probably changed my life - for the better. On the last day there was an amazing ceremony for a new Rinpoche (reincarnated guru) which was full of all the pomp and ceremony that the Buddhists do so well. We were really lucky to have been able to participate in this. A few too many people for my liking but wonderful. Just a few photos. ... read more

What an amazing two weeks I have had. The first week was a Buddhist Beginners course and was mostly wonderful. I have decided that the easiest thing to do is to give you parts of my diary entries that I made. They have been edited though to protect the innocent - me! Sorry it’s rather long, but then it’s up to you if you read it. An amazingly beautiful place in the hills just outside of Boudhanath. The gardens are lush and wonderful for a quiet stroll with views of the Kathmandu valley from every point. My room is on the 2nd floor of a building overlooking Kathmandu and the mountains beyond. Stunning! It’s also on top of the gompa where we will have all of our classes. I am the first person in the ... read more

These photos would have been better with the text but hopefully with the notes underneath each one, you can make sense of them. I tried to up load a video of the two drivers but it didn't work. I couldn't believe it when on the way to the village, the drivers friend squeezed into the seat with him and one steered while the other did the gears. I was not convinced that it was the best time for a driving lesson but just prayed that I was not destined to leave this life while in Nepal. I am not able to receive sms's while in Nepal so look forward to your comments via this blog or an email now and then. Buffy X... read more
