Geo: 44.4063, 8.93386September 28, 2009 ~ Genoa, ItalyToday was a good day in Genoa, Italy ~ pronounced Genova or Gen-eeww-wah, depending on who you talk too. Hubby & I were up at 7:15am and decided to have breakfast in the dining room where we sat with two older ladies from England that spoke and had mannerisms exactly as you would imagine two older ladies from England would speak and act ~ I was fascinated! They take this cruise every year and had several suggestions for our day tomorrow, in Villefrance, France. They were also a delight to be around and I loved them. The other tablemates were a talky couple from Boston that were also incredibly interesting and quite entertaining. I thought breakfast was a joy and could barely quit smiling or laughing whereas I believe ... read more

Geo: 42.0912, 11.7968September 27, 2009 ~ At SeaIt's around 2:30 in the morning, Mediterranean time (or something like that), as I write this. I am in our cabin feeling the ocean breeze hit me, listening to the waves lap the side of the boat and hubby is on the balcony with the light on, reading. We love the ship. It is beautiful and very ornate. The room is awesome, too ~ we have a regular room with a king bed and a balcony and we are pleased as punch! So, to backup…We started embarkation day around 7am at our hotel which provided free breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Apparently, as far as European hotels go, we had a very nice hotel ~ marble walls, slick hardwood floors, and of course, a bidet in the bathroom - ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome September 26th 2009

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823September 26, 2009 ~ Rome, Italy We are in Rome!!! (pronounced Roma by the Italians) Let's start with that fabulous 9-hour flight. It wasn't so fabulous. It started out great because we got onboard and I realized every single person had their own little TV, pillow, and blankie ~ I was giddy. Then I realized they have a selection of approximately 20 movies and everyone gets free headphones so you can watch whatever you want ~ I ended-up watching Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Hubby watched the Star Trek movie (again). Then, they fed us free wine (and beer if we would have wanted it) and a huge, really-good meal – a full salad, hot roll, chicken, rice, veggies, plus a blonde brownie ~ it was the best airplane food I'd ever had. So, ... read more

Geo: 42.3316, -83.0478September 25, 2009 ~ Air Travel Day Hubby & I awoke around 5:30am this morning, nervous and excited. We tossed and turned and stayed in bed until nearly 9am when I could not take it any longer ~ Hubby's mumblings about "I dreamt I was a superhero… and I didn't have all my powers…and so things weren't going well" was enough to make me start laughing and then I was wide awake. Hubby had requested omelets from Aunt Helen “with all the bells and whistles” so after our showers, she had breakfast ready! It was again, scrumptious. We were ready to go around 10:30am so they took us to the airport and we checked-in for our flight to Detroit. The St. Louis airport has a smoking lounge in every terminal now, by the way. ... read more

Geo: 39.103, -94.583We went to Kansas City for a wedding. Very nice and sentimental jewelry was stolen. Numerous phone calls to the hotel were never returned. :-( It was a beautiful and expensive hotel with some not-so-nice staff members who apparently had sticky fingers. The wedding was beautiful, I drank wayyyyyyyy too much wine, and the drive home was very long and quiet. :-/... read more
