Geo: 9.95906, -84.3883Once we were seated on the plane we both closed our eyes to try and sleep. We were lucky as the plane was not full, so we had three seats between the two of us. One of us decided she should stretch out and sleep while her wonderful partner got stuck sitting prone in his seat!We were very happy to see that our luggage also made it home with us. Our taxi driver picked us up soon as we walked out of the terminal and we had a lovely day waiting us. Everything here is so beautiful and green and the sky are vibrantly blue. Those are a couple of the reasons we are always happy to come home to Costa Rica. When we arrived the jungle had crept in a little closer to ... read more

Geo: 9.93, -84.08Because of the time difference and the International Date Line, we gain a day on our trip home, so time-wise we arrived in Los Angeles before we left Shanghai! It was a great flight and the eleven hours went by quickly. After going through customs we picked up our luggage and moved it to where it will connect with our flight to San Jose. Without our luggage to cart around we were free to explore a bit of Los Angeles. We caught a shuttle bus to a close hotel and from there caught the bus we used to explore Los Angeles when we started our trip. We spent time wandering around Manhattan Beach. It has a lovely beach and pier area. After having a light lunch we got back on the bus and headed ... read more

Geo: 34.0533, -118.245Wow, we survived rush hour on the Metro in the largest city in the world. We figure that the one billion population of China were all here at the People's Square metro station with us! When we finally squeeze on with our two prices of luggage we could barely breath. I guess that is how sardines in a tin feel! After riding the Metro across the city we caught the bullet train to the airport. At one point it was going 431 kmh (270 mph) and the scenery was just flying by us. We checked in our luggage and headed to our gate. After a few hours of waiting we boarded our China Eastern flight back to LA and they were actually on time. Hooray! We were fed lunch, dinner and a small breakfast on the ... read more

Geo: 31.2257, 121.476We have had an absolutely amazing trip and we are sad to see it coming to an end. Today we headed out to do a bit more exploring before we have to climb aboard our flight back to the real world tomorrow. We decided to spend the morning at the Shanghai Museum. The modern building was designed in the shape of a traditional cooking vessel. The exhibits featured such subjects as furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasty's, paintings, ceramics and jade. All exhibits were beautifully presented. The museum was pretty busy so we decided to have a quiet lunch back in our hotel room. This morning before heading to the museum we walked through a park where they were setting up for an outdoor jazz performance. One of the band members came down and chatted ... read more

Geo: 31.23, 121.47We were up at three in the morning to catch a taxi to the airport. Today we flew back to Shanghai where we will spend a few more days before flying home to Costa Rica. We arrive to a rainy day in Shanghai. After taking the airport train and a few metro trains we arrive at our hotel. It is in a nice area not far from Peoples Square. Our hotel is more like a mini apartment and it even has a washer/dryer. What a treat! It is a washer and dryer all in one machine. We read over the instructions but they were not easy to understand. All the buttons were in Chinese characters, which caused some confusion. I think we finally washed the same clothes at least two or three times, before ... read more

Geo: 22.2894, 114.148Today we visited the Central Mid Level Escalators and Walking System. It was built in 1993 and is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. The entire systems covers 800 metres or 2600 feet in distance. We took the escalators up and then walked back down. From 6 am till 10 am it runs downhill and then from 10:30 am till late at night it runs uphill. We then wandered along Hollywood Street to our hotel. In the afternoon we did a little shopping before the rain started. For dinner we had one of our first Western meals of the trip. After dinner we got our suitcases organized as we fly back to Shanghai tomorrow. We have a taxi coming for us at 4 am!... read more

Geo: 22.33, 114.18After breakfast we caught the metro and went to the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. We walked along the water at an area called the Avenue of Stars. This is where the local movie stars have their stars and handprints for people to see. Bruce Lee has a statue there. From there we walked past the famous Peninsula Hotel which was built in 1928. Then it was onto Kowloon Park which was a nice break from the sun. We enjoyed seeing birds in the park aviary. We then took the metro to Mong Kok station where we wandered through a very busy market area that was flogging all sorts of items. Once we finished wheeling and dealing there we headed back to our hotel. It is always a challenge in China/Hong Kong finding places to ... read more

Geo: 22.33, 114.18After a lazy morning of organizing our suitcases, we were off to the Guilin airport. Our ride there took us around an hour by taxi. We did like our time in this area. It was beautiful to see the thousands of karsts peaking up everywhere over the landscape. Yangshuo was quite a touristy location, but it is located in a very pretty setting. Today we flew with Hong Kong Air and the flight was on time. A first since arriving in China. As we neared Hong Kong the night lights of the city were very beautiful. It is a fabulous city to fly over at night, as there are lights twinkling everywhere. From the airport we took a train and then a taxi to our hotel. Once settled in our room we ventured out ... read more
