The Omani Grand Canyon
Great to hear of another Grand Canyon. One in Oman? I didn't know that.

Omani Grand Canyon
I think Oman might be well on it's way to being our new favourite country!

Reminded that these were different times
I laughed about your teacher.... yes, things were different in 64. I'm so jealous of your childhood. What an adventure.

Teacher
Thanks Dave and Merry Jo, I was indeed very lucky, despite having a scary teacher! Cheers, Dave

And what a great adventure it was!!!
I remember having to do homework on the ship crossing the Pacific as I was going to be late for school by a month. I remember making a map of the world using clay, and then painting it. As for weather I remember experiencing a typhoon in the Bay of Bengal on the way to Ceylon. Like your mom, I am also susceptible to sea sickness!

Homework
Thx Bob, It was a great adventure. I can't think of any excuses to do any more blogging until we go away again in mid June, so I'll have to find something else to amuse myself until then! I'm not at all sure how Mum would have coped with a typhoon. Cheers, Dave

Before political correctness
What a trip. What an amazing experience to have so young. I'm envious and loved reading all about it. Thanks for sharing.

Before political correctness
Thanks Dave and Merry Jo, I think it's only in my later years that I've started to appreciate just how lucky I was to have such wonderful parents, as I find out that not everyone was so fortunate. Cheers, Dave

We didn't have a dress up day...
but di have a talent context. My sister wore her Thai dancer costume and performed a Thai classical dance. She won first prize and a medal from the captain. I didn't have any talent, or at least none that I can remember! Thanks for the mention regarding gully gully men. Those were the days!

Dress ups
Thanks for this. I am also talentless and didn't win anything, so don't feel too bad!

The Captain's table, SS Himalaya

Cruising
I'm assuming children weren't allowed at the Captain's table? I bet you were happy about that :) Your memory is incredible, and I love the way you have chosen to write about these events. Cheers, Ren

Captain's table
Thx Ren, I think children would have had more chance of flying to the moon than being granted a seat at the captain's table, and yes, from my point of view this was a very good thing. Many thanks for your kind words. Cheers, Dave

Old trips new stories
I love it when people blog about trips from the past. Thanks for taking us along on this fascinating adventure. I would have enjoyed this kind of travel in the 60's.
