Chania Old Town

Sheep theory
Many a time we have stepped off the beaten path and seen hordes following a flag going "Baa, Baa." We follow "the locals know best" when it comes to restaurants. Some of our best meals have been in peasant restaurants where taste and atmosphere more than compensate for lack of fine decor. Denise and I still talk of the best Peking Duck ever in the Crowne Plaza in Wanfujing and the best chicken & Scotch eggs in a dirt alley in Mali. I guess our eating habits while travelling are pot luck...following the locals and avoiding as best we can saying "Baa, Baa." Thanks for a fun blog.

Great review of your time in Petra! My husband and I have been contemplating a trip to this fascinating place. Your re travelogue was both informative and amusing too. Great photos too!

Petra
Many thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated. Petra was indeed fascinating. A lot of walking though, and I started to doubt the sanity of us going at the height summer a few times!!

Cooking classes in Petra. Didn't know you could do that. The people who made the buffet we had there should have gone.....

Our camp at sunset, Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum
We enjoyed the peace and quiet serenity of this location. Even though it is popular with the tourist now we didn't see much traffic.

Amman
We enjoyed Amman more than we thought we would. Rich in history.

I remember our trip to Petra very well...
Our taxi driver hand his hand on the horn the entire way there and back. Linda's horse kept trying to bite her. And when we got back to Amman, Linda had a recurrence of malaria. I spent the next day trying to find quinine. Linda spent the day hugging the toilet, while the housekeepers tried to comfort her. That night we boarded a flight to Bangkok with her temperature of 103 F. I'm glad you had a very special experience!

If our experience was anything to go by, you wouldn't go to Petra to improve your health....

Penalty for donkey
Keep an eye out for donkey's crossing the road.

Donkeys
They're not too smart on roads. Nearly hit one yesterday driving to the Dead Sea.

I think this might be well on it's way to becoming our new favourite country.
