DaveandIssy's Guestbook

I'd forgotten how much your blogs make me laugh Dave! The 'patchy hot' sounds like a load of crock to me... plus patchy 'hot spots' in pools are ordinarily not something anyone wants to admit to :)

Found your Santorini blogs!
It's a different feeling reading a blog about somewhere you've been... I feel exactly like you about 'beaches' that aren't white and sandy! What amazing views you had from your hotel :)

Home time...
Oh wow, what an absolutely amazing trip you and Issy have had. It's no mean feat in these newly post-covid times. What an adorable pup-in-training moment you witnessed. I wonder if it'll go the way of the 'failed' guide dogs we see for adoption every so often? I'm very fond of our biosecurity beagles at Hobart Airport :)

Zappeion Hall
I think we did the National Gardens a major disservice by merely walking through it and not visiting it as a site in itself. I've since seen photos of the Zappeion Hall and have been kicking myself that we missed it. So many beautiful treasures in Athens :)

Acropolis Museum

Greek Jesus
This guy caught my eye, but he was rather 'popular' and I couldn't get a photo of him... I should have circled back when the groups left! Also love your photos of the Stoa of Attalos - it ended up being one of my favourite spaces in Athens :)

The two churches

Beautiful composition
I love this shot of the two churches... the little one was one of my favourites of all the churches we saw in Greece. You certainly hit all the big archeological sites in one go with this tour :)

I thought your title was referring to Kinky Boots the musical!
I wonder if the Hyatt moved into that location before or after the XXX venues decided it was their district…I’m guessing after. Which makes it a very very odd choice! Ah you saw the changing of the guard in beautiful golden evening light :)

People stories
I really love your theories about fellow diners! I would have been intrigued by the thick Dutch accent too - my theory would be that people who do student exchange programs sometimes call their program placement hosts Mum and Dad; so, she may have been an exchange student in NY when younger and has now moved to the US to live with them. We make up stories about people all the time too but don't record it very often... probably should start. I know others do it too because every now and again a brave soul will approach us and try to subtly figure out where we're from (mixed race couples are still a novelty in some parts of the world) :)

People Stories
Thanks for that. Hadn't realised that exchange students sometimes referred to their hosts as mum and dad. That probably explains it, although could potentially get a but confusing??

The path up to Naxos Castle

Take me back!
The more I read of your Naxos blogs, the more I miss the magic of Greece :)

Naxos sunset

Mediterranean sunsets
I need to do some research on why the sunsets in the Mediterranean are so much more seductive that in other parts of the world... or are they all the same, and it's my rose-tinted holiday eyes that are different? :)

Love the photos
I think I may have already told you that Naxos looked very inviting when we passed it on the ferry ride from Syros going south. It's so fabulous that you had the time to get to know it quite well.

Naxos
I've been wondering what you thought of the food. I think we need to put Naxos on the list if we are ever back in the Cyclades!

Naxos food
I think I could live on Greek food and the Naxian version was no different. Standout was the humble Naxian Fried Potato. Plenty of souvlakis, dips, etc as well.

Like Mykonos...
Some of your photos look so much like Hora in Mykonos, but without the hordes. The stories about DK Oyster Bar kept coming up on my news feed before we travelled, so we were extra careful about drinks menus when there. Absolutely shonky, but like you said, it's clearly a system that works for them, so they don't appear to care.

Sitting vs Standing
The rushing to the front of the plane as soon as we touch down irks me beyond belief! Weirdly it doesn't bother me as much on larger planes as it does on the small domestic planes in Australia... I was on a Virgin flight once (in their early days when they were trying to market themselves as the young hip airline) and a sassy cabin crew made an announcement on landing that anyone who stood up before the seatbelt sign went off would be booed over the PA system... it was hilarious and not one person stood up! I loved it! :)

Sitting v standing
That’s a great story. Should make it standard practice.

Eeekkk!
I'm very glad you noticed they weren't clothes lines! I've loved reading your Malta blogs - it certainly is a beautiful country, even if somewhat lacking in wildlife :)

Temple of Apollo

Naxos
Excellent jockeying for this gate sunset photo! One of our ferries stopped at Naxos on the way south and it looked like a beautiful place... so many gorgeous islands so little time :)

Greece
When you said, 'spend the night in the airport', I thought you meant it literally! I was relieved to read of the airport hotel room :)

Salt pans near Marsalforn

Tourism...
Your photos are really making me want to move Malta much higher up our wish list. Beautiful colours and those blue skies! :)

What a coincidence!
I'm very impressed that a never-met cousin saw Isabelle and recognised her from Facebook! That's so awesome :)

Small world
If we had any doubts before that Malta was a small place….

Gozo
Many years ago, I remember watching an episode of Shane Delia's travel program (Something like Spice Trail?) where he visited a salt pan business that had been run by the same family for many generations. It was oddly very fascinating :)
