Today we headed off to the apparent cool town of Taupo. The stop we did today was at Haku Falls, it was quite amazing actually and I’ll post the photos to see yourself. Arriving at about 2pm after a longggggg trip straight away I went out to explore, had a little look round the shops for a coat as we were doing the Togariro Crossing 19.4k walk up a mountain tomorrow. Ahhhh. I managed to find a few coats for me and Charmaine; had a little gander then went to the hostel bar until about 11. we then went back to the room for an early night as we had to be up at about 5:30am ready for the 7-8 hour walk tomorrow. That didnt exactly go to plan because we ended up just talking in ... read more

Once again were on the move. Today we head out of Turtle Cove from Mercury Bay to the lovely Rotorua. I have heard that this place is very nice and am looking forward to making an appearance there. We set off bright and early about 7.30ish. Our first stop today was at some old gold mining caves. We got to see how they managed to get the gold and along the way there was lots of boards which explain how and what happened; you know like the process and everything. We got to go into some caves which were even too dark to see, we had to take tourches, it was fun. Our second stop today was at a cultural place of the Maori people. Part of it is a school for teaching about how to ... read more

This morning up bright and early…actually…not that early, we nearly missed the bus at 7.30...oh dear…not to worry though we were soon on our way to Mercury Bay; via a few stop points to see some of the sights I might add. First stop was at the top of Mount Eden and the views were amazing, We got some cool photos…check em out! I think that now were going to be travelling more then we will be writing a lot more as there will be plenty to write about. The photos of us with grass behind us is in a big crater which is the centre of the volcano. It was massive, if you cant see through the photo. We then went to a place called Cathedral Cove which involved a 40minute hike to a cool ... read more

Today was another day of waiting around. Having to be up and out of the room by 10am and then waiting around for the bus until 3, we did not plan to do anything today. The morning consisted of tea and pot noodle for breakfast/lunch, mid morning to lunch, and then we sat around in the television room and watched the film Superbad…which we have seen before but it was awesomeeee…of course. After buying some travelling supplies, like water crisps etc, we got back on the bus at 3pm and headed back down to Auckland and managed to arrive there at about 6:30pm ish. We checked in no problem and had a little look around the hostel that we were staying in..which is massiveeeee and has all sorts of stuff in it; it was called ACB ... read more

This morning we were all set to go. I think I forgot to mention that Charmaine kindly made us sandwiches and we sorted out some little bits to eat for the whole day out at sea. We set off at 9.30 and by about 10am we encountered something…An orca whale. Infact it was a whole group of them, there must have been 10+. Now the guy that was the captain had been doing it 26years and he said he had only ever seen something like this 3 or 4 times. INCREDIBLE! I found this thing on my camera which did quick bursts of lots of pictures so I was able to get some great photos and delete the rubbish ones of course. The whales came right up to the boat, literally feet away and were showing ... read more

Today after having a mammoth 12 hour sleep we wanted to do something today…something…like an activity or just something so we aren’t wasting the day. We got up around 11ish and went to make some breakfast. We spoke on skype and then decided to walk to Paihia’s little town to book a trip. We decided that instead of just going to dolphins and doing the half day trip for $89 we were going to the full day trip for $99 which included all of the bay of islands and took the whole day. Bargain. This would also involve supply drops to some private islands. We were happy we booked that and by 2pm we had brought some stuff for sandwiches etc for the boat as it was much cheaper and we were being prepared. On the ... read more

Oceania November 2nd 2009

This morning we set off early, 7.20 we were picked up by the bus to be precise. The kiwi experience which we are just starting is a bus pass which we can travel down the country on, we hop on and off when and where we like, as long as we go south. Except this part as its an extension so we are allowed to travel up to the bay of islands then travel back down to Auckland. The bus journey took about 4hours and we arrived at about 12pm. We travelled with our buddy Jenny who was doing the same pass as us. When we arrived she met someone she had met in Fiji and we all ended up in the same room. They were gona go for a hike to the Haruru Falls Waterfall, ... read more

Cant complain at all about that. We woke up a bit late today after going to bed kinda late last night. I was adamant that I was going to get a camera and see if we could find a charger for Charmaines camera too. So after a few opinions and trying to spend money wisely but effectively I am now the proud owner of a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35. Wahooo...Even though I had to pay over the odds as it seems that New Zealand and Australia are not friends with Amazon and EBay which sucked as I paid more than I needed too...by alot! Never mind, I was still happy and we managed to find Charmaine a charger too, quite a successful day really if you ask me. Pictures here we come, we’ll be professional photographers by the time we get back. Tonight ... read more

Had a very early morning...damn it...knock knock on the door for about 5mins, the people annoyingly reminding us that we had to leave for the airport...especially after last night. We got to the airport by 7am and checking in. BUY RICHARD BRANSONS BOOK - LOSING MY VIRGINITY. IT'S AMAZING iv read 105 pages today. That man is awesome, there is nothing he hasn’t encountered or done. We didn’t get a window seat which wasn’t very good but the leg room on the plane was surprising for some strange reason it felt like we had loads. The journey wasn’t too good though, I was feeling not the best as you can imagine, but we managed to make it. Landing was well dodgy, I think he approached the runway too quick...bloody learner pilot. Arriving back to normality as ... read more
