Today after having a mammoth 12 hour sleep we wanted to do something today…something…like an activity or just something so we aren’t wasting the day. We got up around 11ish and went to make some breakfast. We spoke on skype and then decided to walk to Paihia’s little town to book a trip. We decided that instead of just going to dolphins and doing the half day trip for $89 we were going to the full day trip for $99 which included all of the bay of islands and took the whole day. Bargain. This would also involve supply drops to some private islands.
We were happy we booked that and by 2pm we had brought some stuff for sandwiches etc for the boat as it was much cheaper and we were being prepared. On the way back I literally put 1 foot in a shop to grab a skydiving leaflet. Now by this time it was about 2.20pm…The guy kindly shouted out we have a special on that if you are interested…I kinda was and so listened to what he had to say. He said basically the skydive and photos would be $380 instead of the advertised price of $440.
I said it was still too much and he dropped it to $360 if I could do it at 3pm…wow…what a shock. Before I knew it I had booked a skydive and was doing it within the hour. AHH….
3pm soon came around and we had a chat at the jump site of what to do etc, before we knew it I was up in one of those tiny little planes with 1 other person, and 2 camera men, one for me and one for her. 6 of us managed to squeeze in and as I was looking out of the window I suddenly thought to myself…holy crap I’m about to jump out of a plane. The freefalling part was immense, the sense of just falling and being above the clouds was something else. The parachute ride down was rather poor but for the 45sec freefall it was class. Something that I will definitely do again. The only problem was that I wanted to fall through the clouds and see land getting nearer before the chute was pulled, but the clouds were too low and we pulled it while at the right altitude. Another thing about my first jump was
that we didn’t land back on the zone where we were supposed to so Charmaine didn’t get any photos of me coming down and she was disappointed. The woman also promised them that she would come get her when we were coming down but did not. There were 4 jumps while I was there. 3 landed on the zone and I didn’t so was a bit disappointed but the guys kindly let me have a dvd for free which kinda made it a little better but I would have preferred to have done it properly; landed in the right place and less clouds as you had no sense of height as it was completely cloudy. Im definitely doing it again. One more thing was that the people there seemed rather rude and not too bothered about customer service. They were called Skydive Zone and so will name and shame their hospitality.
We both felt quite tired tonight so had a quick drink, made ourselves dinner...which was like a pot noodle…haha and then watched a film in bed as we knew tomorrow we had a full day out at sea which we were really looking forward too.
