Kütahya is the main porcelain producer of Turkey. Here are some pictures that I took in my 1 day trip with my friends. It was very nice and you'll see what I mean :) We were only foreigners and 1 Turkish teacher from Eskişehir. We decided to take a bus and visit this small city near Eskisehir, like 70 km away. It was a sunny summer day at the beginning ok, but soon the hot sun awoke. On the way I was so so booored...but suddenly that magnificent lake made me take a pic and add it here..heheheh...Ok...so we went to visit the huge mosque - actually we could not enter, it was not opened for the public. We saw a museum that had a lot of things connected to Christianity like crosses and paintings of ... read more

According to what people say, this city has between 14 and 30 million inhabitants..you can choose any number you want. This was the longest and most successful trip of all I took to Istanbul. Said to be the city of 7 hills, this first capital of the Ottoman Empire is like a magnet to every person that came to visit it. At least I know that even if I saw it already, I wanna come back and stay more and more and take part to its non-stop life. Istanbul is the only city in the world that lies on 2 continents: Europe and Asia, and it divides Marmara and Black Seas by the Bosphorus pass. My first "serious" trip started one foggy day at 8 am. Unfortunately it started kind of bad (I had an ... read more

First time I went to Bursa - 2 hours and a half from my city - it was in October..somewhere in the middle of the first religious holiday. Together with 3 other Romanian girls we decided to travel and meet another Romanian..a boy, an old friend who was with AIESEC there. What I knew before about this city: lots of mosques, history and a mountain. That definitely draw my attention. In my short visit I could see the "Green Tomb" where is burried Osman Gazi ("Ottoman Empire" was named after him...he was the mighty force that created that), Ulu Camii (=mosque), Yeşil Camii (Green Mosque) and Yeşil Türbe (Green Tomb)..and Zafer Plaza (zafer=victory) center where I heard people meet. On top of one of Ulu mosque was a funny figure..I heard it's called "Karagöz" and ... read more

I am here for 1 week already. It't time for my first trip outside the city. So we got together: about 50 people - to go to visit TROY..and other places related to Turkish history. The trip from Eskisehir to Canakkale (the starting poing of our 3-days history lesson) is 8 hours. Once there..you can smell the perfume of the sea. We crossed the Dardanelles with a ship. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The water was dark green and the wind was caressing our smiling faces. How can I describe that Dardanelles crossing-over trip?! Great! Absolutely beautiful! And since our trip's purpose was to discover the history of that part of Turkey...soon we started to see a huge Turkish flag on the hill. Soon we reached Gallipoli, the starting point. That place is now a ... read more

1st week passed already. It's very interesting. I found more positive things than expected. Some were funny..some interesting and some totally wrong. For example I left home all my skirts and several sexy shirts I had, thinking that I'm going to a Muslim country that needs respect. But it was WRONG. Girls here are very open and when I say that means that they are not covered, on the contrary, they look like out of the box. Boys are the same. I've seen here many crazy hair styles...hehehhe..and I met people that go to the hairdresses almost every morning before going to work (at least some of my fellow teachers here do). Another WRONG thing: even if alcohol and porc meat are forbidden in Islam, I met people that were drinking more than me in ... read more

My journey started on August 20th, 2005. I came to Turkey. First time to a foregin country..and since I didn't dispose of so much money, I travelled by train. It was a 24 hours journey...and so it started... One sunny and extremely hot day in Istanbul, 9 am. The train stopped in a dusty train station called Sirkeci that looked like in the old English movies. First shock: the Turkish language..seemed like some stones hitting each other in people's mouths...men screaming, luggage grabbing, weight carrying. I was with another Romanian friend, Anca. We were supposed to be English teachers in a city called Eskisehir, somewhere away..about 6-7 hours by train. What we didn't know was that nobody was there to wait for us. We had to manage. Outside the train station we saw something amazing: ... read more

Travelling is something that everyone wants to experience in this life. Some can do it for all their life and turn it into passion, some can make it a job. I - like many others - will try to make it a passion and like all of you..share my feelings and cultural shocks :)... read more
