Hello my fellow travellers! The feeling after today's visit to Marseilles is a bit heavy and thoughtful. After we arrived at the train station we decided to make our way up to the magnificent Basilica of Our Lady of the Guard at the top of the hill, overlooking all of Marseilles. On our way there we passed a lot soldiers as well as the closed down Grand Synagogue which put under heavy guard by armed forces. This was yet another, and more hands on, reminder of the tragedy that befell Lyons the other day. Walking up there both me and Andreas also reflected on how run down many parts of France seem to be, not only here in Marseilles but also in Nice and Cannes. There are lots of graffiti on the walls, much of the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Today me and Andreas headed out together with François to continue the tour of the old town that was interrupted a couple of days ago. François is very knowledgeable about this area and the tour he gave us was really good. We got a great deal of good information and visited some of the most beautiful churches in Nice. Some of them was truly breathtaking such as the Cathedral of Saint Reparata and the Church of Saint Rita! However, the most beautiful of them all was the Chapel of Mercy which is beyond words or picture in how vividly decorated it is inside. We also stopped by the Lascaris Palace but we didn't actually visit it, it seemed quite nice though but we didn't quite have the time for it now. François ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This morning we headed out together with François again to visit the old Roman settlement of Cemeneium located not far from here, close to the Cimiez Monastery. The first stop was the monastery and boy was it beautiful! Both the Franciscan Church, the Cimiez Monastery and the monastery park are all absolutely amazing! The Franciscan Church houses some truly wonderful paintings, especially the painted ceiling is breathtaking! Not much of the Cimiez Monastery is open to the public since there are still monks there but the parts that we could visit was quite nice and I even got to see one of the monks which was kind of cool. The park outside used to be tended to by the monks but it's now under the responsibility of the city of Nice but ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Our first day in France has come to it's end and it has been an overall nice day but with a heavy undertone which I'll come to later. The day has been quite calm yet we've somehow managed to walk a pretty decent 23 kilometres and actually beat our previous record for this trip. We started by going out for a quick stop on our own to pick up a cap for Andreas, I was kind of surprised that he chose a urban cap designed for the low teens. but it's his choice and not mine. In fairness though the Ferrari cap I got from Elisabeth on Cape Verde isn't the sexiest either! Afterwards we went back to the apartment and then headed out together with François who gave us a good ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This morning me and Andreas said our goodbyes to Brigitt and Sam (Jürg was unfortunately not around when we left) and then ran (once again) to the station to catch our train to Sargans. However, today we didn't switch trains right away but instead we took a hike up the mountain to visit the nearby Sargans Castle. It is really lovely up there, the castle is not very big but it is beautiful and it's located in an absolutely breathtaking spot! Inside the castle there are a couple of cool old cannons and with both me and Andreas (especially me) being juvenile boys we of course posed at the guns and snapped a few photos. I should also mention that the hike itself up to the castle is quite beautiful. It's not ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Just like yesterday this day started with a hearty breakfast in good company, in fact so good that we kind of prolonged our stay around the table a bit to long and therefore had to run to the train station. We got there in time though even though we became a bit sweaty in the process. It also was a bit prolonged because we said our goodbyes to Tim who will be going home today so he won't be there when we return from Bern. The target for today's trip was of course Bern, the capital of Switzerland. It took about 2 hours with overlays in Sargas and Zürich to get there from Buchs. We of course mainly stuck to the old city which is quite beautiful but it's skyline is kind ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This day has really been packed to the brim! We started the day with a steady breakfast together with Brigitt and the other couch-surfer, Tim from England. Today we also met Sam, he's a nice American who is living with Brigitt and Jürg for 2 months while studying. First thing on our schedule today was to go to Liechtenstein, first you take a bus to Schaan where you can then switch to Vaduz or to Feldkirch which is in Austria. When we learned about this and that our Swisspass is valid there as well we decided to go there after Vaduz! Reaching Vaduz takes roughly 20 minutes from Buchs and said and done we started our journey there. The weather at first was quite bad with heavy rains so Brigitt and Tim ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! What a day this first day in Switzerland has been! With me on this trip I have Andreas whom you might remember from my trip to the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg last year. He's brave to dare my hectic tempo once again, and this time with a planned five nations rather than three! On this trip our travels will take us through Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Monaco and Germany. As on our last trip we will couch-surf along the way, meeting new and wonderful people! So far we have hosts lined up everywhere except for our last two days in France but I'm confident that we'll find that along the way. The first stop on this trip is Basel which our place of both landing and leaving in Switzerland. However, our hostess for ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Today I had a very leisure day, I started by taking the metro out to the Church of the Sacred Heart at the outskirts of the city. It's a nice church with a unique construction and next to it there is a small image series dedicated to the Prague Uprising during World War II. Close to the church is the Zizkov Television Tower which also has a pretty unique construction, neither of these two are by any means a must visit but if you have the time to spare while you're here it's not to bad to take a look at. Afterwards I returned to the centre of Prague and made my way over to the Convent of Saint Agnes but it only seemed to be some kind of art exhibition there ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This morning I returned to Prague after two wonderful days in Bratislava, just as on my trip between Prague and Bratislava I was fortunate enough to get some good company on the way. This time in form of a Canadian girl studying in Holland. We chatted about travelling and life and all things imaginable. It's always nice to meet other travellers on the road and exchange experiences. When I arrived back in Prague I didn't really have that much to do or see left after my initial days and I instead just turned to aimlessly walking around. I came upon the New Town Hall which is quite nice but not nearly as nice as the Old Town Hall as well as the Church of Saint Ludmila which I can definitely recommend. I ... read more
