Hello my fellow travellers! Yesterday Marcus and I decided that today we'll to go to the temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, hoping for some better prehistoric preservation than what we saw yesterday. I can tell you all that we were not disappointed! Since we needed to go through Rabat we had also decided to go and visit Saint Agatha's Historical Complex. This was a fairly short stop which included a visit to the museum and then a short guided tour of the crypt, church and catacombs beneath it. This actually turned out to be one of my favourite spots of the whole trip so far, the frescoes in the crypt are quite well preserved, they are very vivid and the catacombs still contain the remains of those buried within them, not to mention that the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! What a long day this have been, we left the hotel at 9am today and returned at 9pm, a lot of this time has gone into transportation today. We started by taking a bus to the ferry station which took about 50 minutes, then we waited for the ferry for another half hour. Then the trip over to Gozo took around 30 minutes and then it took us another 40 minutes by bus to get to Xaghra, our first stop of the day. Here we visited the Ggantija Temples, two neolithic temples located right next to each other. These temples are the second oldest man-made structure in the world. Hello my fellow travellers! Okay, I have to admit that our itinerary didn't end up exactly like the one we had yesterday. We started this day with a steady continental breakfast at the hotel before we hopped on a bus to Valletta, this time however we got off at the Bombes Gate instead, it's a pretty nice ornamental gate in the old Florian defensive line and it's worth a closer look. From there we went and took a look at the small Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and the Spencer Monument that both stand a little further down by the road. Hello my fellow travellers! Me and Andreas started very early today to catch a train to Brussels where we'd switch to a train bound for Luxembourg. We were in luck as the ticket we bought yesterday was valid for the return trip as well. It was easy to find the international desk at the station in Brussels and the staff was more than helpful to get us our tickets and direct us to the right track. The ticket was 40 EUR and we had about 20 minutes of waiting so we went to a small café and picked up some baguettes for breakfast. Hello my fellow travellers! Today's exploration of Brussels is at an end. So far me and Andreas are in agreement, Brussels is nice and has a lot to offer, but we both liked Amsterdam better. There is unfortunately quite some graffiti here, including on the monuments and it always makes me so sad to see such disrespect for a nations culture, history and heritage. A lot of the magnificent structures here are unfortunately in a state of disrepair and it hurts to watch such grandeur crumbling. We have seen some though that are being repaired, so at least there is hope for it for the future, perhaps next visit will be better.
