Hello my fellow travellers! Today has been a truly wonderful day! I woke up quite early and ate breakfast with Martin, trying a local delicacy that was like a mix between milk, cream and cheese. It was quite tasty and interesting. Afterwards I went to the city centre where I started with a visit to the Saint Martin's Cathedral and then went back to see the Slovak National Theatre and Slovak Philharmonic in the daylight. From there i made my way to the Old Town Hall and found a door open so I actually got in without paying (although it would honestly have been worth the 5 EUR entrance fee). The view from up in the tower is very nice and there are several rooms that are well preserved in their original state, the staff was ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Today has been a very interesting day with many good meetings. This morning Jay was the first to leave since he had an early train to Vienna, my own one was about an hour later. So, I said goodbye to Jay with a promise to try and meet again in Berlin in July and a bit later I said goodbye to Jakub and Mark, both of whom I will meet again on Wednesday. Neither Katy nor Christine was up yet. At the train station my train was 20 minutes delayed but it was okay as it gave me a chance to get a little something to eat. The train ride though was really fun as I got to share a cabin with two lovely ladies from Japan. They were talking a lot ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! So, after yesterday's nightly (and alcohol-fused) tour of Prague I wasn't exactly at my best today. I've already accepted that my club-hopping days are way behind me but the reminder is always painful. I was woken up early by the Indian guys alarm which unfortunately didn't wake them up so it just kep ringing and ringing and ringing. This repeated itself 3-4 times and finally I just gave up at sleeping at 7.30am so not much sleep for me tonight. After a while the rest of the gang all woke up as well and Jakub made a tasty breakfast for us on scrambled eggs with tomatoes and rounded it off with a nice big cup off tea, I almost feel human again. For today Jakub needs to stay in and work and ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This morning, after only a couple of hours of sleep, I touched down in beautiful Prague. My host here, Jakub, lives close to the airport but since he was away at the time of my arrival I made my way into the centre of the city right away, bringing my bags with me. I hopped off the metro at the Wenceslas Square and took a peek at the National Museum and the statue of Saint Wenceslas before walking to the Old Town Square. First I went up into the tower of the Old Town Hall to get a good panoramic view of Prague. It's a gorgeous view from up there but I'm going to be honest, there's just to many people crowding and bumping into you to make it an enjoyable experience. ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After another good nights sleep I feel very relaxed today and with no real plans I decided to just take this day at a very leisure pace. I began by taking the BTS Skytrain to go and visit the Jim Thompson House Museum. Jim Thompson was a wealthy American silk manufacturer and former OSS/CIA agent who created a thriving business in Bangkok and created a world-wide demand for Thai silk. His house is a feat of architectural wonder created by Thompson himself who was also an accomplished architect, it is created by the mending of six old Thai houses brought from various locations in Thailand. He disappeared without a trace on a vacation with his friends in the Cameron Highlands in 1967 after 22 years in Thailand, he just walked out to ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! So, after my quite turbulent day yesterday (which still ended very well I must say) I got a really good nights sleep and now I feel fully recharged. I guess you could say that today I'm definitely feeling the land-of-smiles vibe. I started the day by returning to the Rattanakosin area to visit the Wat Pho temple and it's reclining Buddha. This is a huge temple complex, far bigger than I first imagined and it is quite astounding! The reclining Buddha is an absolute masterpiece with it's 43 metres awe-inspiring golden body. This temple is indeed a must visit when you're in Bangkok! I was actually surprised also to find that there wasn't very many tourists here (sure at the reclining Buddha there were throngs, but the rest of the temple grounds ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! So, how do I say this without it coming across in a wrong and inappropriate manner, well, I guess there is no way so I'll just say it. I'm a guy who don't care or put particular focus or weight on ethnicity, religion or such things. However, there are some moments, not very often, but some moments that I wish that I wasn't white. Being here in Thailand is one of those moments. So far on this trip I have been very fortunate, I have been quite accustomed to being the only white person around but so far it has only sparked curiosity amongst the people I've met and it has led to so many good meetings and conversations on this trip that I had actually forgotten something which I have now ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! What a day this has been, and I don't mean that in the amazed-and-dazed-way but rather in the god-what-a-day-of-chaos-way. The day started out well, I slept excellent and woke up rested and ready. Me and Chandra began by going back out to the hike trail and go for a short walk, on the way back we again came upon a flock of macaques and I managed to get quite close to them although one of the larger males started acting aggressively so I backed off. Afterwards we went into the colonial centre where I took a walk on my own while Chandra ran some errands. It was unfortunately a bit cloudy today but even so I could really appreciate the beauty of this place. The first thing I went by was the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This morning Rizqin dropped me off at the bus station where we said our goodbyes with hopes of meeting again in the future. I told him truthfully that he'll always be welcome in my home, and since he is fascinated by Viking culture I gave him a promise that if he comes to visit I will take him on a round trip in Scandinavia to follow in the footsteps of the Vikings. In Taiping Chandra was a bit delayed but there was no troubles waiting at the station, I had excellent weather there where no people pestering me, I really appreciate that about this country, there are no droves of people trying to scam you or cheat you in any way. There is an aura of honesty and sincerity about this country ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! After a night with little sleep but plenty of laughter I have to admit that I only felt semi-ready to tackle the big KL! Rizqin dropped me off at the station and I took the train to the outskirts of KL, to the Batu Caves. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention from last night, people here really are friendly and there was no issue borrowing a phone to make contact with Rizqin as I was going by the commute, it also felt very safe even though it was in the middle of the night. People are very eager to help you out and they are genuinly interested in talking with you, no ulterior motifs or scams or anything, just pure socialising. I can tell you that my own image of Malaysia ... read more
