Hello my fellow travellers! Me and Ante started the day at a leisure pace and first went down to the Casa de la Vall to go inside for a guided tour, it costs five euro which I thought seemed like a fair price, however the next tour wasn't for another 40 minutes or so and Ante didn't want to wait for it so this time I gave in and we skipped going inside since entry was only allowed with a guide. Instead we filled our bellies with a couple of really delicious baguettes at a cafe next to Sant Esteve d'Andorra la Vella. The owner was a really nice fellow and the place seemed popular with the locals which is always a great sign. After breakfast we made our way down the hill and crossed the ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! We woke up at a good time this morning and ate some breakfast together with Radek after Michal had left. We had more time than we initially planned since the bus we was going to take had been fully booked so we had to book on the next one going an hour and half later. But it gave us a good leisure time to hang out with Radek and give him some tips for his day in Barcelona. Luckily enough the international bus station is just around the corner from where Michal lives so we just took a leisure stroll over there and hopped on the bus where we watched a movie for the first half until we reached the mountains and the view become far more interesting than any movie! Both ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! With my friend Andreas, called Ante, in tow I arrived in Barcelona just past midnight, due to a delay in the flight. Thankfully Barcelona is much of a night town so our host Michal was up and about and didn't have to wait up for us to arrive. We will be staying with him for two nights here in Barcelona before we continue on to Andorra la Vella in the Pyrenees. We made our way out to Michal who greeted us with water and lots of good advice on what to see and do while we're here. After chatting for a while we all went to bed to gain some strength for what we expected to be a tough first day, traversing the hilly landscape of Barcelona under the blistering sun. At ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I was indeed in luck today, my Tallinn Card still had a few hours of validity left so I said my goodbyes to Martin and thanked him for his kind hospitality before I jumped on a bus heading for Pirita. I started by the ruins of Pirita Klooster but unfortunately it hadn't opened yet so I continued out to the Tallinna Teletorn and went up to it's 360 degree viewing platform. Unfortunately there isn't any part without a reflecting window and in my opinion the view really suffers from this so I can't really recommend this place, especially not with it's rather hefty 13 euro fee to go up here. If they had a balcony part or something similar where you could really enjoy the view to the fullest then I would ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Even though Martin set me up with a key we left together this morning, him to work and me to Viru Hotel where I picked up the Tallinn Card and I was ready to make it count! There was just a slight problem with my plan, everything here has really crappy opening hours! I had to wait for about and hour before the earliest attraction opened up, Niguliste Kirik, which is a museum housed inside a former church dedicated to saint Nicholas, built between 1230 to 1275. It's a museum of ecclesiastical art and it has some really interesting pieces, especially the Danse Macabre from the 15th century, by Bernt Notke. Unfortunately it's displayed behind glass which reflected the light a lot so it was hard to really enjoy it or take ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I woke up early in the morning and took the very first bus out of Narva, heading to the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. During my travel I have heard a lot of great things about Tallinn and how it''s one of the most beautiful cities in the Baltic countries so I was certainly looking forward to going there. The weather was a bit dull when I arrived and I was getting pretty hungry so I started slow by dodging into a kebab restaurant at the outskirts of the old town, getting a bite to eat and surfing the web for a moment while waiting for the rain to blow over. Once the rain subsided I headed towards the closest spot on my list of places to visit, the KGB Muuseum which is ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Well, today I unfortunately wasted pretty much half the day waiting for Roman. As I said yesterday the plan for today was to go to Narva Joesuu and visit a ghost town on his recommendation. While waiting for this he played some FEAR 3 with me watching, I knew he liked the game and I wanted us to get along and bond so that's what I did. After that we watched first a Russian action movie called Brothers 2 and then a Swedish comedy called Cockpit. So pretty much a very slow start to the day, granted, I didn't really feel like there was a great many places to visit in Narva so I just tried to enjoy the slower pace. The problem is that once the time came rolling around to ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I had plenty of time before my bus to Narva would leave so me and Kristiiina went for a lovely blueberry pancake served with bacon and after that we took another small tour of Tartu, this time walking around to the other side of the river which was nice since it gave me the opportunity to see some of the areas we didn't visit yesterday. After that we said our goodbyes and I hopped on the bus and the ride to Narva went well, although I shared seat with this very talkative Russian lady who honestly kind of bugged me, complaining about me writing and watching movie instead of enjoying the landscape which honestly wasn't very impressive along this road. When I arrived in Narva my new host Roman was waiting for ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I said some quick goodbyes to Katrina this morning before I left for the bus station. It was early enough that she wasn't really awake so it was a very short farewell. The bus trip went well and I arrived in Tartu after roughly four hours and I was greeted at the bus station by my new host Kristiina. Just like with some of my previous hosts she speaks Swedish and actually works for a Swedish company helping with the time management for our regional service travels so I said that she has probably talked to my father at some point though because he used to work in service travels before his retirement. Even though she spoke Swedish we actually stuck to speaking English the whole time, probably just felt more naturally ... read more

Europe » Latvia » Vidzeme Region » Sigulda June 29th 2017

Hello my fellow travellers! My final day in Latvia was certainly enough to equal, maybe even top, my last day in Lithuania! I left together with my host Katrina and then we split up as she went to her office and I headed to the bus station to catch a bus to Sigulda. The connections there are excellent, the bus was nice and only cost 2.5 euro and took one hour and 15 minutes. As I left the bus it was a feeling of ready set go and I immediately headed for Siguldas Viduslaiku Pils, a castle that used to belong to the Livonian Order. I knew that time would be a bit of the essence today because I only had about seven hours in Sigulda until the last bus back to Riga. Sigulda has no ... read more
