Ok folks , just let you know that despite the best attentions of the cambodian bus driver and a 14 hour bs journey in 1 day i have arrived in Bangkok alive. Have met best buddy Mop and am now frequenting the irish bars of Khao San Road. Off to Cambodia again tomorrow as Air Asia come to the rescue once again with a flight cheaper than your average Thai Ladyboy hooker ( so Mop tells me!!). Not doing anything cultural at all-am now on a lads holiday so the information which will be in the next few blogs will be fairly limited!!! Will update in a week or so from Sihanoukville probably. Happy mothers day Mum-did you actually make it home to Spain?????????... read more

hello bloggers! you will be pleased to know i am safe and on the other side of the planet. Within 4 hours of landing i managed to get robbed by a taxi driver and bitten by a dog which Fletch found highly amusing. this place is crazy but i like it. Fletch manged to get us to one of the nightclubs in the sticks the first night, where we promptly lost each other. I was then lost, dazed and confused in one of the biggest cities in the world. At 7 am i had no idea where or who i was thanks to the large amount of heineken we consumed. This is our last day in Bangkok as we are off to Cambodia tomorrow but have a flight at 7 am so no bars tonight. Yeah ... read more

Well my second major hiking trip here in Korea and I have noticed a few things; 1) the lack of a younger generation of hikers, the group I go with is almost 100 people and the youngest person I’ve seen maybe in their late 30’s early 40’s with the majority of the age group in the 40-50 age bracket, the oldest I’ve seen looks to be in his late 60’s. 2) Koreans are speed hikers, I don’t think they are there for the scenery just how quickly they can get from point A to point B, and they are quick. 3) The total lack of wildlife, except for what few birds I heard, no signs of squirrel cuttings from pinecones, no tracks, nothing. Which made me wonder if any of the people I was hiking with ... read more

not really been doing anything as exciting as the trek since we've been back in the real world but we rented a motorcycle and jetted around chiang mai on that feeling very pleased with ourselves! we could have stayed there for a long time, just doing nothing very much,,it was so relaxed after bangkok and china...our week consisted of big late breakfasts, temples and markets, late night chats with Mr. T and his crew in the Bob Marley shop, thai massages, big cocktails and lots of curry...we also managed to find a in use monastry which was completely deserted sitting on the top of a big hill that we happened to drive past looking for something else..i only managed to see because of a massive golden budda head sitting over the trees... the main event was ... read more

This is what we hear as we walk down the mean streets of Kowloon, here in Hong Kong. They do a few things well apparently: suits, fake Rolexes, fake bags, and...hash. The hash is usually quietly spoken after the boisterous claim for the other items, so that's nice. No, we got to Hong Kong on Friday after a mere 28 (the train company says 25...I guess it's fuzzy math) hour train ride from Shanghai. We're actually pretty good at these long distance journeys by now. It doesn't really faze us anymore. All you need is a good book, a deck of cards, peanut butter, and a big bowl of ramen noodles, and you're set. Once we arrived, we checked into our "Mansion." Many of the hostels here in Kowloon are in these big, run down, buildings ... read more

'Sawatdeeka' from Bangkok, where I arrived to be greated by 30 degree heat, and roughly 60-70% humidity- and this was at 6.30am, mind! This is now my second day spent here, and I can tell you, it's been an interesting experience so far. So I thought the best way to share my journey thus far was in the form of a 'how to' guide to Bangkok- and NO, this has nothing to do with anything sexual thank-you very much!! HOW TO...lose 3kgs in 2 days: Simple- come to Thailand (and sweat it off). No, but seriously. Combine the heat, the lack of appetite, and the walking around all day, and hey presto!! You are on the perfect weight-loss diet! Having said that, you feel gross, hot, and thirsty ALL the time, made even more annoying by ... read more

Summary - Exploring the New Territories. The best way to do this is using public transportation, such like KCR rail, light rail, buses and taxis. The territory is beautiful with lots of green places and nature reservations. During this time of the year there are lots of trekking birds from all over China here. But it was impossible to visit the planned nature reservations because these places were all closed for prevention - the bird flue. This is really logical and people here are taken care to prevent the disease. So we visit a famous and non-touristic temple in Tuen Mun - the Ching Chung Koon Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lui Tung Bun, one of the so-called Daoist Immortals. An another place we visit was Kam Tin Village / a very old village. The ... read more

So I feel a little weird as I'm currently at home feeling a little bad but not so bad that I couldn't teach. Yesterday I came home from work and absolutely passed out. It was 5:45 and I didn't wake up until 8:45 at which point I still didn't feel very well. I had a fever of 37.7 degrees Celcius (which according to my handy National Weather Service converter is 99.86 degrees Fahrenheit) and felt fairly weak and dizzy. Russell was also home with the same thing and fortunately Shina had been out to get him some medicine and a bit of food (which I also ate). A bit later Shina called Wayne to let him know that the two of us were sick and Wayne scheduled some other people to work for us. I just ... read more
