The third stop on our tour of Japan is Hirshima. We arrived yesterday after another very comfortable and lightning fast ride on the bullet train (God bless that Japan Rail Pass we bought in the UK, it has saved us an absolute fortune!). Our Hotel is the Hotel Flex - all the hotels have odd names over here it seems - which is close to the train station and only a 15-20 minute stroll to the main drag. It's another small but comfortable room but this time we have a lovely view over the river - the first time we've had anything other than a wall to look at through our bedroom window! Hiroshima is different again to Tokyo and Kyoto. It's hard to describe the vibe here - kind of more hip-hop than glam as ... read more

Well it's been a while since I wrote in my blog... Only because I felt they were no longer very interesting to read and not many people were reading them either... LOL That's ok, I don't mind and don't blame you. This'll most likely be a short one anyway. So, honestly not much has really changed here. But met a few people and have been keeping busy. Got a few job opportunities, but I really don' t want to take a job just because, especially in teaching. I did it for 2 years and I didn't come here for that, so... The weather was really good last week. Hardly any rain. Here I thought Taiwan was hot & humid... pfft! Think again. This place is MUCH worse. But it's all good. So as I had spent ... read more

Yo I'm probably in the best place in the world. This is a Big Vally called Kinnour, and I'm staying in a Village called Kalpa, and i have probably the world Best views from my terrace. I love it. I haven't written in a while so I'll explain how i got here, I left Shimla in the direction of a place called Sarahan, and spent the night there, at a 13 century wooden temple. really chilled place but the monastery is also the alarm clock of the village and the monks put awful hit India music at 5 am to make sure everybody wakes up for work. also me, and i have no work. Since this wasn't good fun, me and an English block Steve who i have shared a plate of Momo (these are Davine ... read more

Hello again! This is my last day in Chiang Mai before heading to Bangkok tonight and flying into Macau, China tomorrow morning. I have really enjoyed the time here to catch up with the family and have a chance to relax. One of the highlights of course has been finally getting to meet Catherine, who I will be travelling through China with. I was also surprised to see Amy (Devenny) who I went to school with. Her sister Emily graduated this year so Amy and her husband Matt flew over from California to be at graduation. I got to go to Becca's school prom, do plenty of shopping, attend a Thai cooking course and have a few nights out inbetween! Will keep you posted on the China experience... JOY... read more

Left our hotel in Saigon at 6am to cross the border over to cambodia in a public bus. the vietnam border is pretty simple then you get on the bus again and travel 1km through no mans land to reach the cambodia border. After paying my 20US dollars for the visa and getting everything stamped about 5 times we realised that the bus had dissapeared. luckily our tour leader was there and informed us that the bus just couldn't stay at the border and had driven 2kms away - the only way to get to it was with one of the moped drivers so Elana and i squashed onto the back of a moped and held on tightly. i felt like i was doing a bit of a runner from the border! I am incredibly scared ... read more

Another long bus journey, another load of crap aircon, fixed seats and bumpy roads. However at the first stop there was a lady selling deep fried crickets... so I bit the bullet. And the cricket too. It wasn't altogether bad... and certainly better than some food i've been cooked before! C-Pop Cambodian pop music seems to commonly be a dubious fusion of Khymer and mispronounced gramatically poor english. Now I know given my past posts im not in a position to judge but... Cambodian Roads They are bloody awful, they really are. And this is the dry season. I dread to think how they will become in the wet. Corruption is a big issue - like the Bangkok Siem Riep mention in a post a few days ago. Another example - the US government have agreed ... read more

Wow, people in Thailand really really really love their king. Yesterday me and my roomies went downtown to check out the festivities for the king's 60th anniversary holiday. There were like a billion people there. No joke, a billion. Well, all I know is I've never seen that many people in one spot in my entire life. There was a parade, speeches (no clue what about), then a candle lighting (yea, I was kinda scared about the billion people ALL having their own candle and not burning down the city...) then fireworks. Oh yea, did I mention about twenty random Thai people off the streets took pictures with us!? It was hilarious. So I'm officially in photo albums all over Asia, haha. They seriously just love foreigners here. After all of the ceremonies, they had ... read more

I flew into Singapore after a fairly boring few days in Brisbane. Once you've visited the 30,000 museums and galleries, theres not a lot else you can do for free, I have memorised the Brisbane city layout now though, so if I come back with a work visa, I can always go for a job as a cab driver. Singapore! I arrived at about 9pm, and my airport pickup didn't come to pick me up, which was fine though, as it gave me the chance to use the Singapore public transport system, which is pretty damn good. The trains arrive on time, and they are spotless, in 4 days of using trains every day, only 1 smelt like urine. So I jumped on the train and headed to Little India. I wasn't able to get ... read more

From Mandi back up the Kullu valley and across the Beas took us toward the Jalori Pass - a steep climb to 3222m… The ride was Poulets first real test… Vertical, dirt roads, landslides in places, rain and loaded to the gunnels with us and our luggage… It was a hairy ride, we stopped at one point to hide from the thunder storm in an abandoned camp, put on ALL of our clothes (it got fucking cold!) ate ALL of our provisions (biscuits) after Katies scare mongering tactics (“We might get cut off!”) Chris made pathetic attempts to get us water (cups in the rain, a cm of dirty water… we’ll make adventurers yet!) after a harrowing, biscuit munching 20 minutes the rain totally cleared up, the clouds parted and the sun glimmered along the edge ... read more
