Ok so I made it thus far, possibly the biggest party of my adventure lay ahead! The by now world famous full moon party is the main reason, apart from the beautiful scenery and beaches, that young travelers flock to Koh Phangan every month under a bright moon lit sky. I traveled to the island via high speed catamaran in a group of 7 people who I had met in Ko Samui. I had a lot of fun with these guys, we all got along really well and it was nice to be part of a group after traveling and meeting a few people here and there who all went off in different directions after a day or two. Traveling in a group is a different experience than that of solo travel. Personally I like the ... read more

Samir's article. We last left our um... "heroes" as they began a 6 day drive across the Rajasthani desert. Before beginning another day of driving, we went to see a fort perched on the top of a mountain. The fort was pretty important, as no elephant or battering ram had ever broken down it's gate. Or so the audio tour cassette said. There were also a lot of cannons and a museum displaying a lot of swords, sets of armour and scissor-like daggers. When we finnaly left the fort, Mom decided she wanted to go to a palace nearby, so it took a while to get back on the road again. When we finally left Johdpur, and we were driving in the general direction of Jaisalmer, we spotted a peacock. We were all pretty awed at ... read more

It's been a while since we last wrote! apologies! We left the project yesterday evening after an incredible 4 weeks. We were very sad to be moving on, we won't be in Chandrapadi for the inauguration of the new and complete houses on March 22nd and moreover extremely sorry to leave our cosy little set up in Kottucherry and the fab people there. Sam "Sham" Roberts, the leader of the pack is possibly the most compassionate and diplomatic person I've ever met. He's got a drive and determination that i never thought existed in someone so young, and is a credit to Build and truly amazing for all that he's achieved out there in the last 2 years, I know he'll be sorely missed. Kris: Right then. I realise we have said practically nowt about what we're up to for ages, but I'll try and keep this blog away from epic War and Peace style proportions. There's lots of nice pics so just enjoy them if you like... Anyway, here we go.... Major Developments... Our major news is that we are no longer monkey watching. Our extremely short career in primatology ended while we were still in Pattaya working on the promotion of the project. Basically, a more urgent cause arose and there wasn't enough money to go round them all from the organisation we're working with (Eco Explorer). The new cause was that of a failing elephant camp on the outskirts of Pattaya. I think I mentioned in a previous blog that the place we are staying in Pattaya ... read more

Krabi We crossed over the border into Southern Thailand on the train. We were a little nervous as there has been alot of unrest in the area, so we were very aware of unattended baggage! We arrived in Hat Yai safely and took a mini bus to Krabi. This was the worst journey we have had to date as we were crushed into the van and driven at near death speeds on roads that were officially 2 lane but were used as 3! We took a long tail boat to Railey beach and spent the day relaxing on our lilo and just chilling. We met Camilla Todd and her friends Nicky and Tarryn at Raleigh beach, it was so weird to bump into her as it wasn't at all planned. We arranged to meet up again ... read more

Departing Hoi An midafternoon for the gruelling mammoth 18 hour bus ride to Hanoi in our berms and t shirts, we had absolutely no idea what the capitol of vietnam had in store for us. Several days of watching BBC's weather report, we were expecting crisp, cool, 25 degree days. As a result, it came as a rude shock to us when we got off the bus at 630am only to be greeted by an icy cold rainy morning - we were blowing mist out of our mouths! The weather was quite miserable for the first few days at 18 degrees in the rain, but it's gotten better since.. we can finally put the berms back on. Fearing the worst, I have since bought 3 sweaters (all dirt cheap knock-offs at a local skate shop) and ... read more

Finally, hello from Ko Samui, Thailand! Took my time didn't I? Well if the truth be known I've just been trying to get my head back to normal since the flight and since experiencing Bangkok in all its glory!!! (Here's me thinking I'd seen it all...yeah right!) Myself and Susan arrived into Bangkok on Monday and were very fortunate to be able to meet up with an ex-pat Richard, originally from Belfast (god, us folk get everywhere!) to show us around. Our first night was pretty chilled and we met his family who were out on holiday and had a nice meal with them. When the end of the night rolled around me and Sus were told that we'd experience the REAL Bangkok the next night! I think Rich was testing the waters that first night ... read more

after a 10 hour flight (which fortunately i was able to sleep through since i had a whole row to myself), and a bus ride from the aiport to the hotel, I'm' finally here! No need to go to internet cafes like in europe since this hotel has internet access. It's pretty cold, a little colder than in paris, i think. Since I didn't really get to the hotel until 8 pm or something, I didn't get to really explore the area too much but we're going to have an early day tomorrow. Shelby is helpful since she pretty much understands and speaks and reads Japanese, so she's been getting us around and ordered me a sandwich today. It's 16 hours ahead of LA time, so my timing is all messed up. It's 10:55 pm here ... read more

We arrived back from the jungle on Wednesday afternoon but have been too tired to update since then! We left on Monday morning at about 9am after breakfast and travelled about 1 hour to Doi Intanon National Park in an open back jeep to begin our trekking. We had a quick stop at a local market to pick up supplies such as water and toilet roll. Our first stop was elephant trekking where we shared our elephant with a girl we met travelling on her own - called Rachel - we had the seat on his back but she had to sit on the elephant’s neck! We began our trek across the National Park, going up and down hill our elephant sometimes refusing to follow the others and making his own way, stopping occasionally to ... read more

ok so , feelin a little sore and drousey so bear with the spelling and the disorientated ravings! will explain further on, its all good! so last entry was a little boring, iv done loads since. we had a day bikeing it around Vientiane! imagine me, renting a bike! it was pretty funny at first, i was as awkward as a seal trying to cycle with flippers, big wide corners and the odd stumble, but, as we got lost, i improved, became more fluid or whatever and we reached our destination- the market oh what a trial, you just want to buy absolutly everyting, well, the white goods didnt take my fancy-i'd never fit a wah\shing machine im my rucksack- although it is a 100L. we walked for hours, stalls and stalls or wonderful scarves, bags ... read more
