Hue The next stop on the itinerary was Hue... Hue was unified Vietnam's capital from 1802 to 1945, during the rule of the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Most of the Imperial city was destroyed during the fighting which followed the Tet offensive in 1968 The walled city also contained the previous home of Ho chi Min, which we had a wander around in, they love him here. The tour was made more entertaining by my rickshaw driver and his bizarre comments... I'm sure he was the Vietnamese version of Captain Jack Sparrow. Far to much rum, he was completely nuts. The highlight of the Citadel tour for me was the captured USA tanks, heavy Artillery and armoured cars. With no visible security guards around (unusual for Vietnam) we decided to climb into the tanks and ... read more

Hello ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and welcome to Hue… Hue is about half way up, (or down), Vietnam and is the proud owner of the Regal Royal Tombs, (where some royal dead peeps are buried), the ancient Citadel, (the old emperors pad), and some mighty fine countryside not to mention some crazy cool special people. We arrived in Hue quite late in the evening and night fall was upon us. We therefore headed straight to an Indian restaurant for a change of the usual cuisine. Great samosas.. pretty good curry. Then we had alcohol, then bed. Goodnight sweetheart. Goodnight. Sleep tight. The highlight of the next day was a motorbike tour around Hue and the surrounding countryside. I wasn’t driving mind you… May I please take this opportunity to introduce you to Mr Tam. ... read more

Hurrah ! We have come to the last long-distance bus journey in Việt Nam - the four-hour drive from Hội An to Huế. We have found the bus system here to be quite well-organised, but it puts you in contact with nothing but other travellers and does not give the opportunity to meet any Vietnamese people. Ultimately though, given Việt Nam's appalling driving conditions, these buses represent the safest way of getting around the country. We leave Hội An on the same day as our visit to Mỹ Sơn, which had us up at 5am to see the ruins before it got too hot (which it does by about 9 or 10am here). After a quick lunch we hop on our bus, a decidedly rickety old thing compared to the sparkling aircon juggernauts we've been taking ... read more

today was another early start at the Home of affection which is only about a 5min bike ride away! all five of us (me, robin, abbe, maddie and liane) went and each have our own group! I was teaching 2 boys who are brothers.. Sang and Trang and also 2 girls Linh and Thung. They were from 7 years old to about 10! It was a little difficult at first to keep their attention but after a while they settled down and i soon realised they all had very different abilities! I organised 4 different activities for them for the hour and a half and it all went quite well considering i left the game of word bingo at home which i spent ages making yesturday!!! After the class everyone played together and chatted, the kids ... read more
