Hiya, We are just about to leave Krabi after a flying visit partly to break up our journey down to Malaysia. Was lovely to have sea to cool off in after a v humid 2 weeks- especially Kanchanabri where the 38 plus heat was too hot for an Eccles girl. The beaches are beautiful here and the Sea is ridiculously warm- like having a bath! The hostle we are staying in is 1.50 each a night and comes with balcony and TV! But Kanchanburi topped all others when we got ensuite, views over the mountains and brand new room with wooden shutters and twisted wood table and chairs for like 2.50 each a night. We are making the most as we will be in dorms in Oz and Nz. Seeing the River Kwai and going to ... read more

There are no tuk tuks on the islands of Thailand and I miss them! It means you have to walk, or get a taxi! Actually we got round that one by hiring a scooter for the day and going round the whole of Koh Samui island - tis soo small it only took a few hours. But we stopped off at some lovely beaches, climbed up to see a waterfall and investigated Thai Tescos - which is actually real tescos - posher than ours tho, you get free water and its huge, like a proper entertainment centre going on! Out hotel on Koh Samui was tres posh and a welcome break from some of the more ropey places we have been staying in of late! It had a lovely pool and was right on the beach ... read more

We'd both been looking forward to Railay beach as we've met so many people who have been there and all said how good it was. I was especially keen as I wanted to have a go at some of the many climbing routes which can be found there. On arrival we had to decide on which beach to stay, all of them having their pros and cons. The eastern side has some great restuarants and some cheap accomodation, but the beach is not suitable for swimming as the mangroves come all the way up to the beach. The western side is better for swimming but the accomodation is a lot more up market. There is another beach on the western side called Tonsai which is where all the main climbing is found. Its a bit more ... read more

Hi everyone, didnt quite realize that this address was being passed around, so im sorry for getting so personal on the last entry. But for those worrying about my arm, it is starting to get better...Still a couple of days before i can go into the water but its looking promising. Well, since the last entry we travelled over to a place on the west coast of thailand, Krabi, where we stayed overnight. This was just a place to stay before we headed over to Rai Lei beach which is where i am currently writing to u from. When we woke up (march 2) we hopped on a tiny banana boat in which they squeezed 7 people on. After taken this 20 minute boat ride, we arrived at the most surreal place i have ever been ... read more

Ok so this is very delayed update as I was trying to access Travelblog using an incorrect website address - doh! Thurs 26th Jan - Sat 29th Jan - Bangkok was mental! It was worth a visit to see the amazing golden, oppulent temples, but the noise and pollution from car fumes meant that two days were enough. Had two text books scams tried on me on the first day (tuk tuks wanting to take you to their shops on the way to temples and being told by others that the temples were shut so that they could take you elsewhere instead!) Fortunately Lonely Planet and some advice from you guys meant that I didn't get sucked in. The tuk tuk and taxi drivers thought I was mad when I said I was planning to walk ... read more

Hillsner fra Billesborgbanden.... read more

Hello. For the last few weeks Dan and myself have been island hopping round Thailand. We stayed in Ko Lanta first which was a really nice island with loads of beaches. As this island only has one, straight road, it requires no navigational knowledge what so ever, so we dicided even we would be safe on a motorbike!! Once on the bike we took to the open road and found a small town with bars, resturants, mini marts (this discovery was the god send as we found chocolate!!) From Ko Lanta we went in search of other islands and more beaches, which we did, we visited Mook, Ko Ngai, and another two which neither of us can remember their names. These beaches were beautiful. Perfect clear blue water, stunning white, soft sand, loads of fish and ... read more

Life is hard. I've spent the last week on one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, and my plans for the next month are much of the same... Hope the happy sunshiney thoughts of the blog and the beachy photos don't depress anyone in rainy Vancouver too much! (On that note, before I forget, exciting news! Landing at YVR March 18th, yay) Cruised down south on the luxe overnight train that's becoming all-too familiar (it was my fifth time on that route), and randomly decided to head to Krabi rather than Phuket as it seemed to be where most of the other backpackers I met on the train happened to be going. Since I have so much time here (a little under a month on the Adaman coast) I can be pretty relaxed with ... read more

Well Reader(s)... Up at the crack today to catch boat from Phuket to Railay, Krabi province. It is awesome here & close to where "The Beach" was filmed. There's loads of huge rock formations shooting up into the sky & of course fantastic beaches with crystal clear water. Check out railay.com if you don't believe me. It's also a refreshing, less touristy place than Patong was. There are also less sleazy guys here with Thai women. Have booked a snorkelling trip for tomorrow with a try-dive so we'll see how the dive goes. I'm used to snorkelling and really looking forward to it....there are some great locations off the small islands out here. My accommodation's basic..a mattress on the floor & an en-suite sluice... but hopefully I won't be in there much. At some point I'll ... read more
