September 13, 2010. The alarm went off at 5:30 am, I was confused, it was dark and I don’t remember turning on the alarm. I had forgotten to turn it off from the train ride. I got up to go to the bathroom (I don’t know what it is, but here we seem to need to go a lot during the night, must be the humidity and all the water we are drinking) then quickly feel back asleep. The fan alone was enough of a breeze to keep us comfortable and there were no mesquites at all. We finally woke up at 9. We dressed, brushed our teeth and headed for breakfast. Buffet breakfast, nice but compared to the Lebua it was like eating cold cereal. We did both have made to order omelets, turned out ... read more

September 14, 2010 When you are in paradise you never know what the day may bring. It may bring the rains of the monsoon, it may bring sun, and it may bring a day on the bay kayaking. But then you’re in paradise so you don’t even care what it brings. We woke up at 7:30, the sun was bright it looked to be a beautiful day. We had reserved two kayaks and after breakfast we had plans to explore the shoreline. Showers are now only done at night before dinner, your going to spend the day in the water, why waste the local water on a morning shower. We had a good breakfast, no eggs for Jerry, no repeat of the egg stomach of yesterday. I will say one thing about breakfast meet through out ... read more

September 12, 2010 After a fitful night of sleep, the train is not very smooth and when is stops the car from behind slams in to the car ahead. It is also not a very quite train. All in all, I would have to give thumbs down to train travel in Thailand until they get newer cars and cleaner cars. If you have ever read the Inferno by Dante, I would compare train travel to about Dante’s description of Purgatory, not horrible but not heaven. But I digress, we after a fitful night of sleep we awoke at 5:30 am. We had about an hour more until we reached our transfer point with the bus. Our breakfast that we ordered the night before arrived. Cold toast and eggs over easy that weren’t cooked completely, yum yum, ... read more

1/10 Right now I'm on the plane waiting for take off from Bangkok to Phuket. Got a shuttle for 130 baht which was actually a cab w/2 other girls. It only took a 1/2 hour and the meter came up to 225 baht, we already paid, but it was interesting to see how much it really costs. The standard rate is 500 baht, but at 5am do you really need to charge those prices? Anyhow money saved yay. Mini Van HELL- So when I bought my shuttle ticket the woman did not write on there that I needed to go to a different pier. I was going to the Bang Rong Pier...not the main pier that takes you to phi phi island. Piss me off. The driver said no problem and said he'd take me there ... read more

Day Seventeen - How The Feck Do You Get Sunburn In The Shade?? We leave tomorrow dammit. In saying that I think we are all ready to move on, this has been relaxing and lovely but there’s only so many day in a row you can lie on a beach. After yesterday managing to burn whilst lying in the shade all day, I snuggled up to a sunshade and lathered myself in factor 50. I burned further. I also think another guest may be a friend from home but as I had no glasses on I didn’t head over thinking I’d see her again later. I didn’t so who knows? It is a small world after all. We tried some snorkelling as well but after the storm, the water was too murky and we soon ... read more

Day Fifteen - Ta Ra Terry, Heylo Heaven It was easy enough to get up early today despite a lack of sleep (Arsenal game only kicked off at 00.15 here...) as we were moving on to a proper island paradise, Ko Yao Yai. Terry had booked us a 9am taxi to the pier and true to form it arrived on time and we set off. We’d got twenty yards before Angela yelled “STOP THE TAXI” and jumped out dragging Leanne from the middle seat. Turns out there was no middle lap belt and all going through Angela’s head was the old elephant car advert. In truly dramatic style she selflessly took the danger seat and off we went. Arriving at Bong Rong Pier we were met by the ubiquitous touts waiting to make a profit at ... read more

We have left Kolanta! Unfortunately. We have spent almost a week here and are very sad to go as it has been spectacular. Our resort gave us a ride to the Ferrie Docks at the end of the island. Our driver who also owned our resort by the sounds of it was very informative. We mentioned to him that we had not seen any Police. He says that you only see them at the beginning of the month and the end of the month when they are around to collect money...He mentioned that they look after their own policing when needed. We arrived at the pier and had about 1/2 hour to kill before our boat. Alicia and Stacey said that they had enjoyed Railay so that is our next stop. After approx 1hr. 45 minutes ... read more

After Phi Phi and Phuket, we decided we needed a rest, without the temptations of parties and late nights, so we headed to a small Muslim island in the South West called Koh Yao Noi. We travelled there from Phuket by bus and ferry. It was pretty rural, as soon as we got to the ferry port we realised the culture was different. The bus we were on carried many supplies for the island which, alongside two mopeds, and us, were tipped onto the "ferry." The ferry was actually just a larger longtail boat and was most definitely not water tight. The crossing took a lot longer than planned, but the islands in the area were so pretty because they were so remote. We spotted many fishermen going about their business, which was a nice change ... read more
