Heyyyy! This is not my first blog, but it is my first travel blog. To sum it up, I'm the epitome of a bad writer who does not have a schedule for anything. However, I will try my very best to keep posting everyday when I am travelling. Because, personally, I prefer lists than paragraphs, I will type up my little intro in a list. - Name : Kristie Lam - Nickname : KaiPo - Age : 17.5 - born in Hawaii, - spent most of my life in Hong Kong, - have gone to school in Hong Kong (Hong Kong), London (England), Toronto (Canada), Vancouver(Canada) - reason why I started travelling : moved around too much since little, can't seem to stand the thought of staying in one place - why I travel : for ... read more

Wow, what a year! 2012 has proved to be full of adventures for me here in Asia! I just realized I haven't written a blog since August, so Christmas vacation seems like the perfect time for an update. The last few months have flown by. Christmas in my school was a riot! The kids began talking about it mid-November, and didn't stop until December 25th. We had the privilege of receiving a visit from Santa himself, on December 21st. One of my older students aptly pointed out, "I know he's not real. The real Santa comes to my house through the chimney." (This was said in complete seriousness). Either way, most of the kids seemed to be in complete and utter awe of Santa when he bumbled through the door into each classroom. Some students were ... read more

I’m back… I wanted to post yesterday (my short day), but it is no longer my short day. Ugh… It was the start of a new quarter on Monday and class schedules have been switched up. I lost a few classes and then gained a few, which altered my schedule to the point where I no longer have a short day. But I was told it would be considered when next quarter starts, so I am hoping to have a few short days come February. So we shall see... In any event, my new schedule was out of my control so I’m looking on the bright side. I have three 2 hour breaks, one on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So technically I’m not teaching more, I just don’t get out early on Monday. So it’s not ... read more

This past weekend was JAMMED packed with all sorts of things. Jammed to the point where I was exhausted, seriously. I had a few things planned but didn’t realize how much one was going to be and I didn’t plan on another. Haha. First thing is Friday… Fortunately Friday was the most relaxed of the days this past weekend. I went to a really good Mexican place (I’m pretty sure I mentioned in a previous post) called Las Margaritas. Their burritos are amazing! So my lady friend and I went there for dinner. That was about the extent of my Friday. Friday needed to be a short night for two reasons… 1. The week kinda drew on me and I was a little tired, 2. I needed to get up at 5:45 AM to hike up ... read more

Today was special because Sandra and I went to the Bongeunsa Temple in Gangnam-gu. It is a Buddhist temple, so that's good for me because I am a Buddhist. We caught a bus to Bongeunsa from a bus stop near my hotel. I wanted to have a temple stay as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I packed extra comfy clothes, toiletries, socks, sneakers and my electronics (camera and mobile phone). The temple stay provided us with temple clothes that were orange and made of think material. The temple is located in the city but it still had that traditional building and the nature feel to it. The temple stay starts at 2:00pm and ends at 9:00am the next day. It costs ₩50,000 (about $50.00 AUD) per person. The temple stay included a temple tour, tea ceremony (Da-do), monastic ... read more

Today Sandra and I went to the SK II Spa in Seoul. SK II is a skin care brand but also a spa. It was in Gangnamgu and instead of taking the subway again, we went by Sandra's car. When we entered, we were gretted by a fluent English masseuse and was taken to the massage room on the 4th floor of the building. They gave us robes to change in and sat on the massage table. We both had the relaxing body massage and the Signature facial program. We both fell asleep when the body massage started. When I woke up, the facial was about to start so I woke up Sandra. It was so relaxing and calming. After the treatments we went down to the first floor where they sold SK II products and ... read more

The morning was full of blue skies and sunny but as I watched the thick fog roll off the harbor and between the mountains I could hardly see the blinking lights on top of the bridge. It was only three o'clock but the site from my third floor classroom window made me a little worried that it would delay our flight. The previous winter I'd heard about a few delayed flights from Yeosu so I had a little reason to be nervous. That and we were heading up for Sea's wedding and Joe and I were hoping to have a good night out with our friend before he was wedded. Joe had headed back to Seoul from India on his way through to Portland. Thursday night I picked up the weary traveler at the train station ... read more

Today I will be visiting the 63 Building, one of Korea’s tallest skyscarpers. It is called 63 because of the number of floors it has. 3 of the floors are actually underground. It is also known as the Golden Tower because of the golden reflective glass. The building has shopping malls, restaurants, IMAX theatre, convention hall and an aquarium. I went and ate on the 59th floor. The restaurants were between floors 56 and 59. The observation is located on the 60th floor. From here you can get a great view of Seoul. The building looks over the Han River. After exploring the 63 building I just walked along the Han river and enjoying the view of Korea and just looking around appreciating the free time I have left until I get back to Australia and ... read more

"We should never forget our birthdays or the birthdays of those who are close to us. Birthdays keep us childlike. They remind us that what is important is not what we do or accomplish, not what we have or who we know, but that we are, here and now. On birthdays let us be grateful for the gift of life.”-Henry Nouwen Birthdays are my chance to plan something outlandish and my friends will have to do it. I absolutely love planning parties, dressing up, and doing something I've never done before and I use birthdays an an opportunity to do that. Year 20 was a trip to the Exploratorium in San Francisco, where we acted like kids, and had a party back at the dorms. Year 21 was the H party where I introduced beer pong ... read more

I have a lot to catch up on here but I will start with the first eventful...er...event...that has happened to me recently. On January 24th, 2012 I had my first all-day date. My boyfriend thought it would be so much fun to meet up at 9am. 9....am....on my day off. Who thinks of such things, right? But I complied. Falling out of bed at 8:30 I got all ready and walked to the subway. It was one of the coldest days I have ever experienced. Just walking 5 minutes made my face burn with cold. Once I reached Joseph, he assured me that we would be inside the whole day, as the mall and surrounding places were connected. Was very happy at this thought. After a relaxing subway ride that lasted maybe half an hour, we ... read more
