This blog is a collection of photos from the last few months here in Seoul. We've been quite busy switching jobs, sightseeing and tearin up the town on our newest purchase - a scooter!!! In addition, we have both landed side jobs teaching English to execs at Swiss Bank. Todd is also privately tutoring one of Korea's most famous comedians, Kim Yung Chul, who has become a friend of ours. Many of the photos are from our day at Gyeongbokgung Royal Palace, which was originally constructed in 1394. It's actually a huge village where South Korea's kings and over 2,000 palace workers resided for centuries. It is truly like stepping back in time. It was freezing on the day we went, but we agreed it's the coolest thing we've seen yet in Seoul. There are also ... read more

Sometimes we know what is best for us, but that doesn’t mean that it makes things any easier. Sometimes what’s best for us doesn’t always feel as good. Well, it’s been two months since coming to Seoul and six months since coming to Korea. Sometimes I wake up and wonder what the hell was I thinking when I decided to get on that plane with all the chaos that was going on. Sometimes I wonder if I was running from something. Lately I’ve been feeling really homesick and the slightest thing can change my mood from not having a care in the world to freaking out about the tiniest detail of life. Thinking about things, about life makes me cry because for once I feel so uncertain about life and what I want from it. This ... read more

Todd's mother and sister, Teresa and Tammy, traveled from Seattle to visit us during the first week of April. Although Tammy has traveled around Asia quite a bit, it was Teresa's first time to the Orient. It was also the first time Todd and I have seen family in over seven months, so we were especially excited. They arrived late on Sunday evening, so we headed straight to Kangnam. They battled jet lag and stayed up with us for a few drinks at one of our regular spots, Big Rock, which is owned by our friend Andy. We shared their famous beer sampler and chatted with our dear friend Matty, who has been living and working in Korea for nine years. After many stories and much laughter, we all headed back to our place and went ... read more

It's been a month since I got to Seoul and it's been hectic but an amazing experience so far. The last time I wrote, I had just started my job. I'm starting my fifth week and it's been going well. The children still amaze me with how much they know, but kids will be kids where ever you go. That is what I've learned. I have my good days and bad days, my favorite students and least favorite students, but all in all, it's been going well. A week after I started my job, I found an apartment but couldn't move in until this past weekend. So I moved out of the hotel and for the last three weeks I've been staying with my aunt and that in itself has been an experience. It's been good ... read more

To make a good trip, people usually plan because there are a lot of things that can be the problems in the trip. how you don't know about the place of trip is important problem. this should be high. because travel's good point is giving the fresh shock. For example, If you go to the familiar place where already you know all about the place, that can be the trip? that can give you pleasure? this is not the only important thing. speed also is the problem. both slow trip and fast trip have merits. but fast trip can be able to be the just watching and getting around strange place. so slow trip is the real journey.... read more

Well I’m finally in Seoul! I got in last Sunday evening after a great last weekend in Daegu. Came into Seoul and checked into my hotel. It was sweet until they told me that I could be getting a roommate so not to be surprised if someone comes in. I was just about to go to bed but the door opens and my roommate walks in. The next morning she hears my alarm go off and gets up and jumps in the shower. Whatever. She gets out of the shower and I get up and she’s standing there butt naked! WTF!!! Why do I always get the weirdos! The past week I was for training, which was way more intense than I thought. The first day was orientation to the company and then they informed us ... read more

Christmas isn't that big a deal over here, but we made the best of it. We decorated the "happy tree" in our living room with lights and a few ornaments. And, we went to visit Mrs. Lee because her birthday is on Christmas Day. She and Mr. Lee gave us traditional Korean lucky money bags, which are supposed to bring health and wealth in the new year. We also went out on Christmas Eve in search of some holiday spirit, which somehow evolved into me ordering wild turkey shots for no apparent reason. Well, actually, I saw it in a movie once and always wanted to do it! Note to all - this is straight gasoline. We managed to recover and enjoyed a relaxing day at home on Christmas. Moka stopped by and brought us a ... read more

We have had an amazing few months settling in. Seoul is a fantastic city that is growing and modernizing even before our eyes. The technology here is amazing - there is GPS navigation on every cell phone and every person on the subway has a mini portable tv playing the latest shows and movies. The food is very healthy, but also very spicy, as we learned all too well on our first few attempts! We can now eat without guzzling water after every bite and consider this a huge achievement. Some of our favorite dishes are bibimbap, which is rice mixed with vegetables and smothered in a spicy sauce, and traditional Korean barbecue, which is pork and beef that you cook at your own table. We also love kimchi, the famous spicy cabbage served at every ... read more

Hey everyone, Well fall is finally here and the colors of the trees are trurning from green to all kinds of yellows, oranges, and reds. Its still been pretty nice here weather wise. Much cooler than it was in the summer and I am enjoying the cooler "sweater" weather instead of the scorching hot three showers a day humid heat. The past two weeks have been busy again so I am finally just getting around to updating~! Halloween here was a great success with two full days of princesses, super heroes, ghosts, goblins and a homemade haunted house to boot. We were busy but it was worth it to spend some time with the kids and actually get a day to play and not teach. I was in charge of the Candy Apple stand with Jasmine ... read more
