Well, as I mentioned in an earlier blog I was thinking of going to China to see the total eclipse, I did not make it, couple of reasons 1) It is still monsoon season and I did not want to buy a ticket to Singapore and it ends up being a cloudy day, 2) Which is the main reason, I procrastinated and forgot I needed a China visa. So I stayed in Korea and saw an almost 90% eclipse on what turned out to be a very clear day. One of my co-workers (Korean) had never seen an eclipse, so we watched together, I showed him how to look at the event with a some binoculars and a piece of cardboard, later we borrowed a "Welding Hood" with a dark green lens, I was able to ... read more

Well after a long hiatus, I'm finally back to writing my blogs, and I must say I have missed it. Let me apologize for not keeping you all posted on my travels, but I have been so busy here at work, with a new contract being awarded here at Kunsan last May (possibly 5 years), I'm still very busy until the end of August, but I now have some free time. To get you caught up, there will be short blogs on some of our trips, home over Thanksgiving for two weeks, went to Thailand for a long Christmas weekend, four days I think, and at the end of April went to Seattle for a NICET test (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology). Now current activities, I have moved yet again, counting my move to ... read more

Sorry to everybody that I haven’t been blogging recently. No excuses. Just haven’t been feeling the flow lately. I started to write this entry a couple of months ago. After copious pressure from my little sis, I finally finished it. I’ll try to keep it more up to date, but no promises. Here it is. Every once in a while when travelling, I get hit with a feeling: “wow, there isn’t anywhere in the world I’d rather be than right here, right now.” The story I’m about to tell was not one of those times. It was an experience I will never forget, nonetheless. I was invited to have lunch one Saturday with one of the students from the adult classes I was teaching; Channy. At lunch, she invited me to come with her and her ... read more

First, Happy Birthday Dad! Ok, so today, I took a walk just to find the Post Office. It wasn't hard to find at all, and it's basically a hole in the wall behind the bank. Since it is Saturday, I expected it to be open in the morning hours, but closed in the afternoon. Well, I was wrong. When I got there it was chained up, but I could see the hours in the window. I couldn't very well read it, but I thought to take a picture of it to show the ladies at work so they could tell me. I found out that it is not open on Saturday or Sunday, and I'm still not sure what days it is open until 4:30 and what days it is open until 6 pm. At least ... read more

Yes, we have an Outback Steakhouse in Jeonju! It is not as good as home, but at least it gives us a taste of delicious Western prepared food! Tom's contract is soon coming to an end, so his mom flew from England to visit and take him home. She is a very sweet lady and invited Joni and I to join her and Tom for dinner at Outback. We had to wait for Joni to finish her class at 9 pm and then hustle out to downtown. Oddly, Outback closes at about 10, and stops serving around 9:30. I think it might be because it doesn't have a bar. When we got there, both Tom's mom and Joni needed a restroom break, so they headed off while Tom and I grabbed a back booth. Soon, Tom's ... read more

I have a little boy in my class who is one of the cutest children I have ever seen. His name is Chung-Woo (pronounced Chung-OO, the "W" is silent). You just want to pinch his cheeks, and when I do, he pinches mine back! So we are stuck in the cheek-pinching-death-grip and then we both start laughing! Children are so cute and innocent! Also, when he cries, he tends to lie on his belly with his bum in the air and wail. It's really funny, and whenever I want him to stop crying, I usually just pick him up and play airplane. Then he stops, and then I have 13 other munchkins wanting me to airplane them. There is also a little girl named Do-Hee who is just so cute! At first she was a defiant ... read more

On my quest to find a new cheap purse, I decided to try the Saturday/Sunday markets. Although, I found many interesting things, I did not find a new purse. They did have some knock-off Louis Vutton (I don't even know if I spelled it right) bags for 110,000W, which was waaay overpriced! So my quest for a new bag goes on. I ended up at Lotte Department Store, which is a high end department store with 8 floors and a movie theater. I just explored the store and wound up on the first floor looking in the clearance purse bin. I found a purse that I liked and since it was from Lotte, it is better quality, so I decided spending 50,000W was the best that I was going to find, so my search is complete. ... read more
