my travel to oriental mindoro was work related. i have to attend to some business in pinamalayan. i was with my officemate. after arriving in batangas pier at 8am, we boarded a fast craft (?) going to calapan which was an hour travel by boat from batangas. we took a taxi cab (van) from calapan to bongabong, oriental mindoro. we spent the night in bongabong since one of our officemates actually lives there and she offered their house for us to took shelter. when we arrived in bongabong, we went to the municipal hall where her mom works. her mom was so accomodating that she took time off from her office works in order to accompany us around the place. the next day, we went to pinamalayan for our main agenda. of course after the works, ... read more

Maripipi, Leyte, Philippines is another beautiful place. It is a virgin island. The folks are hospitable and kind. You can cover the island by 4 hours walking. A portion of its beach is also white sand.. but most part is colored dark gray. If you want to retreat from the crowded and noisy places, just go to this place. The silence is deafening. There is a spring cold water in Viga, Maripipi, Leyte. The flow of water is directed to the sea. This spirng is where the community fetch drinking water, take a bath, and even enjoy talking while washing clothes... read more

our travel to bacolod was unplanned.. yesterday, our boss directed me and one officemate to go to bacolod to meet some clients who are farmer beneficiaries. we immediately went to cubao pal office and booked ourselves a flight to bacolod the next day. despite the rushed schedule, we got to enjoy our trip since after the meeting with the clients, they volunteered to tour us the next day to the city and mambukal resort. Mambukal resort is located 31 km. east of Bacolod City. The resort is surrounded by therapeutic sulfur springs, seven waterfalls, mountain stream, lush valleys and hiking trails leading to Mt. Kanlaon. the waterfalls in mambukal was so breathtaking. although we had to trek to reach the falls, well, that was all worth it. ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Mountain Province » Sagada April 20th 2003

Weeks before Holy week my cousins and I are thinking where to spend our Holy week vacation. After hours of discussion and internet searching finally we all agreed to spend it in Sagada. I've been to Sagada of April of 1998 with my 3 cousins. I find the place remote, exotic and yet beautiful, in fact this is one of the place I fell in love with. So when Sagada is the final place to visit I have no second thoughts and immediately said yes. Since some of us have been to Sagada we made a little bit twist or should I say adventure going there. We decided to take the most treacherous route, the Banaue - Sagada route. The day has come; our plan is to leave Manila @ 10pm to avoid the holy week ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Palawan March 21st 2003

I had the chance to visit Coron Palawan last March 21, 2003 with the intention of escaping for a while from my very stressful work. Palawan is synonymous to island hopping, snorkling, kayaking and swimming. In short its a complete getaway from a very demanding world. Though I have been hearing that Nepenthes do florish on this part of the island, I have never expected that I would see them on my visit to the island. But before packing my things to Palawan, I make it a point to have a picture of some Nepenthes on hand as adviced by a friend so I can show it to the locals since these plants have different names as you go from places to places. Well he is right but the funny thing here is that there is ... read more

We planned the travel to Bohol, Philippines prior to the GACPA Convention held in Cebu City in 2001. Bohol is just a 2hr-fast-craft ride from Cebu City. It is an fascinating island with full of natural resources. There, I first saw the smallest monkey in the world- the tarsier. The uniformly crafted chocolate mountains are very amasing. Thousands of them scattered around Carmen, Bohol. A friend of ours was the host.. the best treat! We were able to save a lot. The man-made white beach was also beautiful. It has luxurious resort-hotel rooms/cottages where you can live like a prince/princess. ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Boracay November 5th 2002

The reputation of Manila precedes it as a city where trouble can find you, if that's what you're looking for. I boarded a flight from Sydney to the capital of the Philippines as the starting point of my trip to the archipelago. Manila is situated on the Luzon island group in the north of the country. I'd previously visited many years ago when an unscheduled flight stopover saw me spending a night in the capital. On that occasion I was taken to a hotel and made myself comfortable over a meal, but was told to bolt the door before going to sleep. That turned out to be good advice as a dodgy character tried to force his way into my room in the dead of night. So I arrived at the hostel this time around feeling ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Mindanao » Camiguin October 10th 2002

Finally found the time to do the blog for this trip! This was the first packaged / guided trip I’ve gone to - it was a Camiguin - Cagayan de Oro combi. As it was an arranged trip, I don’t know much about the logistics but can pretty much remember the places we’ve gone to. Going to Camiguin, we took the PAL flight to Cagayan de Oro. After a quick breakfast at the city, a private van took us to the Misamis Oriental sea port (travel time: 1.5-2 hours) where we caught the barge to Camiguin (travel time: 1.5 hours). In Camiguin, we were picked up by another private van and proceeded to Bahay-Bakasyunan resort. It was a pretty neat place and the food was great :) Camiguin, the island of the seven volcanoes, has only ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Baguio May 31st 2002

Left the country 31 May 2002 with daughter DJ.....for a new life's chapter in San Jose, California Baguio City, Philippines has been my home for over 15 years....city of peace loving people and energy boosting climate...I say that because when I reach Baguio after travelling to another region or province, drained of energy, it feels like I just woke up from a very restful sleep... Too bad though that Baguio has lost many pine trees along with their scent not to mention their natural airconditioning purpose.... FOR TOURIST: best place to eat although there's plenty, is Barrio Fiesta along upper Session Road...my husband then fiancee can't forget his meals there...And best way to explore the city: walk!!!! It is a very small city and tourist attractions are so close to each other. With all the good ... read more
