April 23-25, 2004 Need a break from a strenous work week? Then, Galera is the place for you to spend a relaxing weekend. Just three hours away from Manila, you can break away with the busy streets of the Metro and smell the morning sea-breeze, laze in the powdery fine sands, and party off all night. Activities - Snorkling - Island Hopping - Night Clubbing Tips - Scout for cheap accomodations; there are houses along the area who offers transient accomodations. - Try to haggle. (w/ the island tour ride, massage, pasalubong items) More pics: Puerto Galera Getting There: In Pasay, ride a Tritran/any bus going to Batangas Pier. From Batangas pier, there are ferry boats going to the island. I recommend MV Brian, as this is the largest boat. ... read more

When a fellow mountaineer asked me that we climb Mt. Pulag this holy week, I wasn’t able to say “yes” immediately. What? The highest mountain in Luzon and just the two of us? He must be kidding when he said that. Honestly, I consider Mt. Pulag as my dream climb but I planned to climb it with some experienced climber. It is just my second year as a “mountaineer” (as I called myself) but I never had any experience on camping. So far, I have climbed about 6 mountains but all climbs were completed before that day ends. In short we are just day trekkers since most of the members of our group are afraid to answer “ the call of nature” when they are away from civilization. Considering that the minimum days required to reach ... read more

Found these pics of my first and only trip to Baler, Aurora in 2004. It was a packaged trip so I don't remember much of the details except that I was puking almost all the way down Manila haha :) Mind you, it's about a 5-6 hour land trip to Baler, with the last 3 hours zigzagging all the way up to Aurora! The roads were so bad, travel is limited or oftentimes cancelled during rainy season because of landslides. There is only one bus company that services the route -- Genesis travel -- their buses have special tires for the unpaved road and the drivers specially-trained to handle the zigzag. So anyway, the travel organizers said they never had a trip when someone didn't puke because of the zigzags, especially going home (so I'm not ... read more

Everytime you searched the web and look for info about this mountain, they all say one thing ... "the place is muddy". We have already experience how it was to trek a muddy mercky trail and its isnt really funny at all. Knowing that Mt. Famy is supposed to be an easy fun climb. Because of this, I told myself that we will only be climbing this mountain on summer. I guess those mud are signs that we shouldnt be there in the first place and the rainy days are supposed to be the time that the mountain should rejuvinate from all the stress that people are giving them. but some people doesnt seem to understand it. So summer is here again and so are we!!! This is actually our first climb for the year 2004. ... read more

Feb 20-21, 2004 From Cebu, we took a side-trip to its neighbor island, Bohol. From Cebu Pier, we took a ferry boat ride to Tubigon, Bohol. From there, we rode a van to the town of Carmen, then we hired a habal-habal (motorcycle) to tour around Bohol's scenic places. Due to time constraints, we didn't have the chance to go to Panglao Island. We'll definitely go back there sometime. What to see/do - Chocolate Hills - Man-made Forrest - Loboc Hanging Bridge - Loboc River - Baclayon Church More pics at :Bohol Getting There/Around: Domestic Airlines has regular flights to Tagbilaran,Bohol. From Cebu, you can ride in a fast craft to visit Bohol (Php250.00 fare). You can hire van or ride in jeepneys, to go around. ... read more

Feb 15-19,2004 This is my second visit to the Queen City of the South, Cebu. The first is totally forgettable, since it was work-related and i was so pressured that time that i didn't have much time to go-around the city. This trip is still work-related but i stayed longer, and toured the city with Jeric, so we had the luxury to travel around. Plus, we had a free hotel-accomodation in Day's hotel(won thru a raffle, when we watched LOTR's ROTK premiere in SM Megamall, sometime in Dec 2003.) Wow, we were really lucky. Next time, we'll try to visit Cebu again, we never had the chance to go to their beaches (Malapascua & Bantayan Islands).. been hearing nice things bout them. What to see/do - Plantation Bay - Basilica de Sto. Nino - Magellan's Cross ... read more

My friend Dan and I decided to make the quick journey over to the Philippines for our Chinese New Year holiday in January. We wanted to trek somewhere there weren't many tourists. We found a great spot on Bohol Province, called Panglao Island. Dan just arrived in Asia about 2 weeks prior to this trip. I had been living in Taiwan for about 1 1/2 years prior to this trip. If you ever get the chance to go to the Philippines, I highly suggest it. There is some great scenery and there are wonderful people everywhere. The Bohol area is especially beautiful and boasts some of the coolest sights such as the Chocolate Hills and the Loboc River. I will let my pics speak for themselves. Each day and night was a crazy adventure and we ... read more

Peaceful island it is.. one must bathe in its waters and sink their feet in the sand to feel the serenity of the place. What you call postcard-picture-perfect is what you see everywhere you turn your head to here. From the small plane (which is the only way to reach this secret location) you will see islets dotting the ocean and as you descend you notice that you are heading to a runway in one of the islands and then will be surprised how such thing was on a place as remote as this. Propellers turning wildly as i looked out the window amazed by the beauty of the view. I have lived in the Philippines for more than 20 years and I never imagined there would be place as amazing as this in my country. ... read more
