note: this is the second part of my travel blog in bohol and the journey continues........ After our meal in the floating restaurants and enjoy the cruise in the loboc river, our group travel to tarsier sanctuary. i was amazed on how small the tarsier is. its size is no larger than an adult's hand. it is true that it one of the smallest known primates. it has big eyes with grayish and brown fur. they are gentle so you won't fear that they might bite you. when taking pictures with these creatures, camera flash is a big no no for according to the locals, camera flash may cause blindness to the tarsier. at present, tarsier has been declared to be an endangered species. my close encounter with the tarsiers gave me the feeling of protectiveness ... read more

September 28, 2007: it was a gloomy day but the weather doesn't stop us to proceed to our planned weekend vacation. our hideaway - BOHOL. together with edz and nildz, we start our journey to bohol trough Cebu Pacific. we arrived at around 12:30 noon and proceeded to nildz's house. my first impression of the province was that everything is green. if Bohol is a color, definitely it is green. the sorroundings were all green, big trees, carpet of grasses. indeed, it was a nice place. as i first laid my eyes on the place, i'm impressed.... after having our sumptous meal, our first destination is the Mag-aso Falls located in the municipality of Antequera, an hour-drive from tagbilaran city. it was raining at that time but it doesn't stop me to make a plunge and ... read more

My mum just arrived from UK for a vacation here in Philippines. And she decided to explore the known island of Bo-ol (it is Bohol's original name until it was changed to Bohol). I have a work here in Manila so I decided to just follow June 14 in Cebu and meet them. Going to Cebu has two purposes, becaouse I haven't been to Cebu since I graduated college, and also to meet my dad's long lost relatives. I took Cebu Pacific st flight to Cebu on same day, June 14 and arrived at Mactan Int'l airport at around 8am. I was fetched by my dad's niece and her son. Cebu is more like Manila, it'skinda traffic, and hot. We went directly to Elicon house were we have reserved even before we arrive. At 1st, I ... read more

Bohol--------I’ve been waiting for this. We’ve scheduled this trip since first week of May. So excited for this. Bit sad coz my 2 friends were not able to go with us since an urgent situation occurred. I was with my sister, Ian, Hazel (Ian’s wife) and Nanette. We left Cebu at 8am by Supercat. We arrived Tagbilaran port at 10 am. There our contact tour guide and driver waited for us. We’ve been to Cathedral church, Blood Compact Site, Baclayon Church and Museum, Biggest Python-(forgot the place), Loboc River- where we had our lunch at floating restaurant,Tarsier Sanctuary, Hanging Bridge, Manmade Forest, Chocolate Hills, Dauis Church and Panglao Island. Everything was great, I swear. You would never regret for the time, money and effort you’ve invested. All those things were magnificent most especially the fine ... read more

Next stop on our tour of the Philippines was Alona Beach on the island of Panglao. After (another) ferry and a minibus, we ended up at this resort which unfortunately was mostly populated by large European men accompanied by small Filipino girls and wearing even smaller speedos (budgie smugglers for the antipodean readers!). This area seems to be popular with German and Swiss travelers which is great for us when we are looking for deli’s and bakeries. We spent our first evening trailing around in the stinking heat trying to find a place to stay that hadn’t raised its prices to extortionate rates. Being the organized kind of travelers, we had rung in advance a place called Bananaland in advance which had cottages with ensuite kitchens - a kitchen was top of our list because ... read more

We arrived in a country where vegetarians would starve, cash registers are used instead of a drawer or pocket, and we haven’t learned a word of the local language because English is widely spoken. The country side is lush, shades of deep green, and volcanos reach the clouds. Groves of palm trees spread inland and ripe coconuts litter the ground while the coastline is dotted with sandy beaches or mangrove trees spreading their roots into the clear aqua blue water. The natural beauty is simply stunning. Welcome to the Philippines. We made our way, in one very long day, from Yangon, Myanmar to Manila, Philippines via Bangkok. After two short days in Manila, mostly spent catching up on sleep, we headed south on an overnight bus to the small coastal town of Donsol. Ten years ... read more

March 12 ~ March 15, 2007 Diving in bohol was an awesome experience. I get to enjoy a different kind of blissfulness in another dimension of space. Being down under has given me the opportunity to see an untouched paradise that i will always want to go back, time after time. Memorable also was that I met fellow divers and on that trip i was the only pinoy on board. It was pretty good being around them and not that intimidating because they were very supportive, helpful and friendly who shares the same passion with me. My diving buddies are Lur (german guy) and Dave (american guy) whose infectious passion has caught up with me. Dave was also responsible for taking pictures of me while I was diving. Diving has given me the opportunity to ... read more

Note that this blog is a lengthy one as we have done one big blog to cover the whole of our time in the Philippines! Our transit time in Singapore was 8 hours, this was because we were too cheap to pay for a room in Singapore for this little time! So we slept on the seats of Singapore's budget terminal, with bright flourescent lights and piped plinky-plink music versions of popular songs. Wandering around airport terminals late at night and taking a wrong turn past offices which had 'Navigational Control Centre' posted on them was probably not the best idea! Hours past (which seemed like days) but soon we were on our way to the Philippines (PI). The first observation we made about the PI was the jeepneys (a jeepney, as defined by Lonely Planet, ... read more

BruceWyatt email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com. Hello Everyone. I'm sorry I've not been near a computer lately. Enjoyed a fantastic week in the remote town of Anda, where Donald's Dad's family live. It was a such a beautiful place, from somewhere back in time. I even went fishing one day. I could have stayed in Anda forever and forgotten all of the conveniences of the USA. Posting just a couple of pictures or so now, but when I have time, I'll try to get to an internet cafe for more writing. Access to the internet is difficult to impossible in the more remote areas. 'Til then, take care, and send me a note some time. Bruce... read more
