Day 14 Went for a short walk around the streets near the Marriott Hotel as soon as I woke up. Today, we were going on a Tour of Bohol organised by Maryann’s cousin Michelle, through ParaTravel Travel Corporation (Phone: Cebu 5643236). In fact, the Managing Director of the company, Marilyn Saguban-Carrillo (Email: marilyn-carrillo@yahoo.com.sg) was to be one of our tour guides for the next few days. We had to be ready to leave the Hotel by 6:30 to ensure that we would be on time to catch the 8:00 am Supercat to Bohol. Our tour group (including) guides was now 16 persons. The Supercat left right on time. The trip was smooth & we arr... read more

One of the reasons I chose to travel to Bohol was to see the Tarsier - a crazy monkey-bat like creatyure with huge eyes and a rotating head. The animal is endangered and Unique to the philippines. Bohol is also famous for the chocolate hills - a crazy mound of hills made from Coral over thousands of years. I suggested the trip to John - he agredd to split the taxi. Then Sharon from London came along, and we met another Girl called Anna, who also fancied the trip, so that was great! Cheap trip - split 4 ways!!! Result. Also went to the Loboc River on a cruise which was really funny - a slight tourist trap, but funny all the same - we were serenaded by laods of people in a south pacific stylee! ... read more

After seven months of travelling alone and meeting random travel buddies along the way, I was delighted to have a companion for the next three weeks; My friend Justine was flying out to join me. The past few weeks had been tough. I had only seen one other traveller in three weeks, and it had been quite lonely at times. So the prospect of travelling with an old friend was extremely welcome. We met up in Manila, and she brought me gifts from England which I treated reverently and almost kissed with joy: A large piece of mature Cheddar, a slice of soft goats cheese, and a sausage roll from "Gregg the Bakers". I am not sure whether cheese is a restricted item for bringing into the Philippines, but if so, this would make Justine an ... read more

So I went for my next day of dives with the Dive shop on the beachfront. We wet to 'the sanctuary' just of Alona beach. The clarity was amazing and the variety of fish just brilliant. I was calm and serene watching the fish swim by. Then my breathing became very difficult - from my training I realised it was likely to be C02 not being removed from the aqualung, so I breathed deep and calm. It just got worse until I could not breathe. I made this clear to my instructor and unfortunately he didn't realise that I was having big problems. I knew I needed a clear air supply and the feeling I had was so bad. I then grabbed him and he still would not give me assistance. He then decided to make ... read more

Finally got to Panglao Island, off the coast of Bohol by taking a ferry from Cebu City. I travelled with John - a Scottish guy who (believe it or not) had just been stabbed in Manila by 'hold-uppers'. Being a Scotchman he decided not to let go of the money belt even after being faced by a knife. Instead he had a scuffle and got stabbed in the leg. The hold-uppers got away with just blood. He had to go to hospital for a few stiches and was a bit worried about being in the philippines cos this had happened within hours of him arriving. So after meeting a friendly face in Cebu, he decided to come with me, to a place he'd never heard of. Panglao Island was a nice surprise - easygoing, very quiet ... read more

Alex and I got on the scooters and tried to ride them down the hill to the beach. It was his first time, so it was pretty interesting. he he. We both did the standard, walk the scooter with your feet on first gear- the telltale sign of a newbie. Some locals gestured to us to put up the kickstand (i forgot. ha ha) We met up with the others beside the Alona Kew, where the path to Alona Beach starts and where all scooters are parked. Melt and Agnes were off at one of the dive shops to compare prices and to look for goggles. He checked prices in another place and was surprised that they charged more than at the Bohol Beach Club. My first impression at the start of our walk on Alona ... read more

1st night on Panglao Island After snorkeling we were pretty tired and wanted to rest and freshen up. We retired to our rooms and agreed to meet up in the early evening for dinner. We first stopped at the front desk to make arrangements for massages. Alex and Michelle got first dibs, then Christy and I. I wasn't in the mood to have the massage on the beach, so i opted for the room. The beach massage was set up maybe 20 feet from the water with shade provided. I saw some people getting them, and didn't feel like getting massaged around strangers. The massage tables were within feet of one another, so you could possibly have someone's feet pretty close to your face. Sorry, not in my plans.. He he Meltom and the rest ... read more

We arrived at the Tagbilaran docks where we waited in the shade for Christy's cousin. Christy's aunts and uncles were also with us, since they were returning from our wedding. We waited in the shade for roughly 15 minutes, which looked bad on him, because he was running late. Christy's tita kept apologizing, while she texted the cousin. I was burning in the heat and wanted to just grab a cab, but to save face I waited. The cousin finally arrived and we dropped off all of Christy's relatives at the bus terminal before we headed to the mall for some purchases. My brother, Meltom, had called us to get lots of water and some Korean or Japanese sweet tea the girls had discovered in CDO City. The tea ended up being a favorite of everyone, ... read more

Leaving CDO City for Bohol After tying the knot in Cagayan de Oro City, we prepared for our overnight voyage to Tagbilaran via Cebu Ferries. Took our final ride with Popet to the CDO docks close to 7 or 8 pm. I warned my cousins, John Paul and Rex, not to go out yet, because we would be swarmed by the porters. Upon hearing this, Popet added a nice final touch to an excellent car service. He said, "Ako ang bahala" (I'll take care of this). The porters knew him well and he told them we didn't need help tonight; we had our two cousins along to help. Maneuvered through the lines, paid our terminal fees, enjoyed watching the guard dogs until they slobbered over my bags, and was suprised to see Uncle Ted and Papang ... read more

For our anniversary month, Kim and I decided to go to Bohol. Since our time for vacation is limited, we needed a place that would offer much yet is not too far nor too difficult to get to. This is my third and Kim’s first time to visit Bohol and I’m glad that it still did not disappoint DAY 1: COUNTRYSIDE TOUR After a hearty breakfast of bacon, ham, eggs and Japanese siomai (takaw!) at the cafeteria on the basement of PAL Centennial terminal, we headed off to Bohol at 8AM on board the brand-spanking-new jet of PAL. The flight is for a good 90 minutes - that’s pretty long for a local flight. As I’ve made arrangements for the countryside tour before our trip, we were picked up at the airport by our driver/tour guide ... read more
