Hi from Bruce Wyatt (email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com). I have a passion for adventure, travel, photography, hiking, walking, gardening, cooking and eating. CouchSurfing is one of the best sites to use when I host or travel. I meet people from all over the world and learn to be more connected to other cultures. I live in beautiful historic Charleston, South Carolina.

From Ashland, Kentucky. Graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, South Carolina ('94). I work as a Training Manager and English tutor, but also enjoy an occasional photography job too.

I'll try almost anything once, whether food or fun experiences. I'm adventurous in travel, foods and outdoor activities. I'd love to try sky diving some day. Although I don't know how to dance, it is on my list of things to do in my life. I am social and find life interesting and fulfilling. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, traveling and exploring anywhere on earth, photography and gardening; or just relaxing at home, cooking, watching movies and TV, etc. My son and I have a great time when we are together. Bryan and I always find something interesting to get into, and look forward to our next travel destinations, wherever that may be. I have a sweet, independent daughter who also loves to travel and do mission trips to Latin American destinations.

BruceWyatt email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com. 6 photos. The Chicago to Hong Kong flight on Friday, 23 Dec 2011 was scheduled to take off at 14:20 Central US time. I read online last week that ordering a special meal in advance gets one served first, so napping, reading, in-flight entertainment, etc., can be enjoyed sooner. This is mostly true, I discovered on this flight. While I was served my special vegan dinner meal at 15:58 CT (and 15 minutes before my row-mates), it wasn't until 18:00 CT that our emptied trays were taken out of our way. When my neighbors were served, I was asked if I wanted a drink besides water. My request for coffee prompted a polite, "Sorry, sir, coffee will be served later." I couldn't have coffee with dinner, but at 17:38 it finally came. In ... read more

BruceWyatt email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com. Revised Entry: On this early Friday morning, 23 December, Elliott got up on his day off to take me to the airport. I'm happy he also walked in with me to see me off. It was so warm in Charleston, South Carolina; it didn't feel like Christmas. I'm sure it will be warmer when I land in Manila, Philippines at almost midnight on Christmas Eve. I couldn't sleep well last night, so on the flight to Chicago I napped a little. It was a smooth flight; we arrived 20 minutes early and had to wait for a gate to be free. A gorgeous, sunny Chicago morning, but the temperature is a cool 25F. I'll be hanging out for a few hours waiting on my flight to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. I hear ... read more

BruceWyatt email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com. Hello from Bruce Wyatt. With just one month to go, I'm making final preparations for my Dec-Jan Asia trip. It will be a Christmas Eve landing in Manila, Philippines, five minutes before midnight on 24 December 2011. Looking forward to this second trip to the Philippines (the first one was in January and February 2007). From the Christmas weekend in Manila, to a journey along the northwest Luzon coast, to Sinulog in Cebu, to a very relaxing time among friends who live in the remote town of Anda, Bohol, I am sure this will be an awesome journey. It will be nice to see the Austria family and Surat family again in San Juan, La Union province, plus Precy Janiola and her family in Cebu and Bohol. I'm looking forward to ending my ... read more

BruceWyatt email: wyatt6464@yahoo.com. Hello Everyone. I'm sorry I've not been near a computer lately. Enjoyed a fantastic week in the remote town of Anda, where Donald's Dad's family live. It was a such a beautiful place, from somewhere back in time. I even went fishing one day. I could have stayed in Anda forever and forgotten all of the conveniences of the USA. Posting just a couple of pictures or so now, but when I have time, I'll try to get to an internet cafe for more writing. Access to the internet is difficult to impossible in the more remote areas. 'Til then, take care, and send me a note some time. Bruce... read more

It's 16:30 Wednesday, and I'll be on my way to the airport in a half hour. Flying to Cebu on Cebu Pacific Airlines at 9pm, but they require me to be at the airport 3 hours early, they said. I can't wait to see the family of Donald's brother: Jojoff, Misty, Alex, Nikko, and Lorenzo! By the way, I wasn't able to get that cell phone I mentioned early in the blogging. Hope you have some time to email me. More journal and photos will be coming as soon as I have some time. Whew, I have so much to tell. Make sure you go back and click "Read the full entry" to view all of the notes, and every picture. Some entries have more than just 3 photos. See ya later ... Bruce... read more

Yesterday was Monday, 29 Jan, and we dicided to take another trip to Bagiou. Wonderful place. It was quite cool this time. I wore a plain white tshirt, but needed something else to take the chill off. Enjoyed lunch at a small restuarant in Bagiou, toro toro style. Toro toro means "point and point", or what I would call "a la carte". Delicious veggies, bulalo (or beef soup). I even tried liver adobo (chicken organs). Not my style. lol I am out of online time for more descriptions at the moment. Am on my way back to Manila by bus with Tito Joe. Planning on staying in Makati tonight, and hope to see Alvin and Oliver tomorrow before catching a flight to Cebu City, where Jojoff and his family await my arrival. Unfortunately, there are some ... read more

Friday, 26 January 2007. I had a fantastic trip yesterday, touring the enchanted 100 Islands region by Bangka boat with our hired guide Alan. So peaceful, serene and amazingly beautiful. I couldn't ask for a better first experience on a bangka. We returned to the home of Tita Angeles and Tito Tudding to spend the night in Pozorrubio. Enjoyed another home cooked meal at their place. SARAP! Sat outside to eat in the breeze and enjoy chatting with everyone. Cesar and I sat and talked for a long time afterwards too. He used to work as an office equipment repairman for many years in the middle east country of Oman. He is glad to be back home, helping Roland take care of their parents. Both Roland and Cesar have grown children of their own, and are ... read more

25 January 2007 It's 12 noon as I write this in my notes. It's already hot! I am loving every single experience here, even the heat. Ronnie (our guide) and I drove from Sea and Sky Hotel in San Fernando this morning, up to San Juan to pick up Tito Joe (Mr Austria). On to the south to Agoo to get Romeo. We drove out of La Union Province and into Pangasinan. We stopped at the home of Tito Joe's sister, Tita Angeles and her husband, Tito Tudding, near Pozorrubio, Pangasinan Province. Also met their grown sons, Cesar and Roland, and some other relatives. I ate my first homecooked Filippino meal here, Philippine style. I talked with Cesar at the fire while cooking the Bangus fish, bought fresh from market this morning. Roland, Romeo, and I ... read more

24 January It's the famous resort city of Baguio, high up in the mountains of central Luzon. I felt at home here in some ways, since I grew up in the hills of east Kentucky, and traveled often to the mountains of southwestern West Virginia, where my Mom's family is from. The weather was not as cool as I was anticipating. Not extremely hot though. Ronnie and I took a horseback tour of some of the city outskirts, guided by a 17 year old boy named Carmon. We saw the homes of Philippine Vice President Noli de Castro, and one of most affluent Filippino businessmen, Lucia Tan. He is the owner of Philippine Airlines. There is a huge 4 story mall in Baguio. We took our lunch there at the food court, and walked around to ... read more

Wednesday, 24 Jan. Quite excited about seeing & experiencing everything in this fascinating country! I am amazed with the transportation chaos here . . . but everyone understands how to maneuver without causing accidents. If you want to cross a street, just remember that pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way. But, if it's clear to the middle of the street, go ahead and cross half way, stop and stand in the middle of the street until the other side is clear too. Easy. LOL. Driving takes agressive, wise, and skilled handling. All vehicles share the same roads: bicycles, motorbikes, motorized and pedaled tricycles, jeepnees, cars, trucks, vans, etc. Pass at any time you can find a hole, on the right or the left! Whew, I don't think I'll try to do any driving here. ... read more
