It's funny how things just seem to work out when you're travelling. When I arrived in Lhasa I quickly began trying to figure out how I was going to make it to Kathmandu through Tibet. In any other country this would not be a problem, but Tibet is a police state and you need special permission to go anywhere and everywhere. Without it, and even sometimes with that permission, the local buses will not sell you a ticket. Most people are forced to take a tour from 4 to 6 days. I ran into an Irish couple who were booking a tour. After talking about it with the tour agent we went down to discuss what we would do. I was hesitant to book with only three people as it would cost too much. Just ... read more

Musze sie spieszyc, bowiem idac w tempie Lonely Planet w Delhi bede 22II, a przeciez 18II mam samolot! (ale tak naprawde to jest dosc prawdopodobna opcja oszczedzenia 7 ostatnich dni, samolotem z Lukla) Dla bardziej dociekliwych: Jiri - Everest Base Camp - polaczenie Jiri to Namche Bazaar Trek i Everest Base Camp Trek. ... read more

Update Last sunday we were told that in a weeks time, we might be moving villages, to phokara (where we are going for christmas) to work there in a rehabiliation hospital. the hospital generally deals with leprosy clients, but does all sorts on rehab and has 3 OT's on staff. so everyone got there hopes up about going there, but on tuesday it all fell through and the hospital wouldnt take us. i didnt email until i found out for sure what was happening. so its a bit disapointing not going but there is nothing we can do. to replace that, as of monday, half of the group will be ... read more

Hey everyone the other night i had to interview a GP, just asking about his role, the general health nepali ppl, etc, and he aslo happened to be a plastic surgeon, working in the burns unit of Nepals biggest and oldest hospital, completing plastic reconstructive surgery on burns patients. he was very egar to show the group around his hospital and ward, which i am heaps excited about. he doesnt have any allied health professionals on staff, so when a patient arrives, they get treated, if their bad enough they get surgery and then they are left to heal. if they get contractures on anything its like oh well the patients dont recieve any compression bandgaging to help with the scars, or any limb movement and training to maintain any range of motion in their joints, ... read more

Hey guys Well I’m hoping to improve on my spelling and grammar from my last blog. It was pretty terrible. It has been an interesting week since I last wrote. We have done a lot of sightseeing around the Kathmandu area, and have moved into a village. Last Friday we completed a 7 hour walk up a steep hill to see the Namobudda. It was a real killer and to find the budda was only a 30cm statue really sucked. But the views and scenery on the walk up were nice, but hardly worth it for the effort. Yes dad I know I’m cynical. On Sunday we moved to our first village where we will live for 10 days. The house I am staying in is basic but clean. We have running water (from a tank) ... read more

Most people fly to India and then get sick. Me, I had to be original - I was sick during the whole flight and after spending the night on a bench in the airport in Delhi I felt much better. Maybe it was just travel jitters, but I somehow doubt it, because I was really sick, I threw up everything I ate (and didn't eat). And of course that made me weak and dizzy which made me spill water all over myself. As for me worrying about finding people to take a cab to Thamel with - sometime in the morning I awoke to the sound of 'ma?' and immediately jumped up. 'Are you by any chance going to Nepal?' 'Yes' 'Are you on the 11:30 flight?' 'Yes' and back to sleep. I also met a ... read more

The final day of the Sit Down & Shut Up Tour began SUPER early with a scenic flight to Mount Everest. Most of the group went & the views were just magnificent. We flew on a twenty seater Air Buddha aircraft & were given maps of the mountain range to follow as we passed by. The air hostess went through the cabin, pointing out the mountains & we each made a couple of trips to the cockpit to take photos & chat with the pilots. Afterwards, everybody was commenting on how jealous they were of mine & Sam's upcoming Everest Base Camp trek. Meanwhie, the two of us were quietly shitting ourselves with the realisation of just what we were getting into! We went to pay for the flight at Hannahs travel agent & he's going ... read more
