Today is Holi, the festival that marks the arrival of the monsoon season, although the season isn’t supposed to start for another month or so. But to celebrate, water is thrown all over the place—using buckets, water balloons called lolas, and bottles. The kids started throwing water balloons a couple days ago, but today they are filled with water dyed blue and red. And so for whitey foreigner, it’s a dangerous day to go outside. So I’m staying in watching movies and catching up on my journal. Yesterday, as Dre and I were walking through various neighborhoods, I was hit by lolas repeatedly thrown by kids hiding in windows, doorways, and on the roofs. Dre managed to get away mostly unscathed. Perhaps people recognize me… And now Sita’s son and his friend are climbing up on ... read more

I am sooooo glad I came to Nepal. It is beautiful, fun, relaxed, exactly how I like my destinations. I was very excited for the Everest trip. I can't believe I was debating not going because it would cost $160?????????? Whats wrong with me????? I'm in Nepal and it's EVEREST!!!!! Anyways, I was at the airport at 630am for my 7am flight. When I got to the airport, I found out the plane was overbooked. Fortunately many others were overbooked so they chartered another plane. The bad news though is that it was super foggy out. After waiting in the airport for 3 hours, I found out my flight was cancelled. As I waited for my hotel driver to come pick me up some airline guys rushed into the office and started yelling at me. I ... read more

Hey everyone! This weekend was brilliant, as I went white water river rafting on the Trisuli River! I'm not completely sure what area,as we rafted about 40km in total, so just put the Himalayas... On Saturday, about 20 of us made our way to the shores of the Trisuli River to begin our adventure. We were all given a paddle and equipment, and given a brief about how to raft, and so got into the little rafting boats and started! First of all, the rapids were really gentle, so there was plenty of time to admire the beautiful scenery! There were green hills, and you could see little villages- so nice to see these things whilst floating down the river. The rapids then became Grade 3 (grade 6 is the most difficult grade to raft- in ... read more

Everest Base Camp - Nov 6th - 18th On our 2nd day in Katmandu we met our guideand the rest of our trekking group. We were expecting there to be about 10 people but it was just us and another couple from Melbourne, Gary and Rachel. After speaking to them for just 5 minutes we were worried about spending the next 14 days with them. We did try, but first impressions in this case were correct ! On the plus side our guide Binud was really sweet as were the porters. Early the next morning we headed to Katmandu airport to catch the flight to Lukla to begin our trek. The flight was only 50 minutes, but whilst in the air it was decided by the pilot that the weather was too bad to land and ... read more

I just got back from my Everest Trek : ))))) At the moment I'm just chillin' in Kathamndu enjoying the commodities of my hotel room ( like hot bath and real toilet bowl) and catching up on sleep.... 24 days ago I took a bus to Jiri and started my trek from there. My goal was to reach Kala Pattar, a 5550m peak towering over Everest Base Camp. I could have taken a flight to Lukla, ( making my trek 9 days shorter) but I wanted to immerse myself into nepali culture... besides I thought this is gonna be a good warm up to the big task ahead. My difficulties started right at the beggining, as one of the villages blocked the road having us guests for over 6 hours...( I can't complain! I wanted to ... read more

Namaste my friends. I sit and write this entry from the majestic mountains of the Himalayas. My quest was to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp and climb over 18,000 feet to the view point peak of Kala Pathar. I guess from my pictures you can already figure out that I made it, but how I got there and what my body went through is the best part. As usual, it was no walk in the park; actually, it was a walk up a freakin’ mountain into the oxygen deprived death zone of the bloody cold Himalayas. But, before I get into all of that, let me start with my arrival into this amazing country of Nepal. Changing countries is always an exciting feeling, but when you step off into an entirely different culture, one that ... read more

Kathmandu 09Dec.
