HI, We have been having an awsome time with our friends Lisa Ben and their children Olivia and Daniel. The place we are staying in is a beautiful house with staff to cook and help look after the children, and a pool. We are swimming everyday, eating well and having massages ! The weather is hot, so the water is lovely. Have had a few rides on the back of the moterbikes that ben and John have hired, but I am not letting Jetson on then as the drivers are crazy. We are about 15 minutes crazy bike ride from Kuta, in amongst the rice fields with the cows and chickens. Will send more news in a couple of days. xx Hope everyone is well. Lou P.s. Happy New Year everyone! Christmas this year was spent on the idyllic island of Bali this year. We left Bangkok 23Dec and returned 30Dec. Travel was via Singapore on Singapore Airlines. They have me completely spoiled now. The boys were in heaven with nintendo games and kids movies on their own personal entertainment device in their seats. I was quite content and got to watch "The 40 Year Old Virgin" which was one of the funniest movies I have ever, ever seen. The food was okay, C. was pretty tickled with his child's meals which consisted of hot dogs on one flight and spaghett and meatballs on the second. The main objective of the trip was for Jim and I to complete our Christmas present to each other......scuba certification!!!! We have both been wanting to get ... read more

First things first- let me wish you all a happy new year, and hope 2006 brings you all much joy etc. We had a particularly raucous night last night. After eating, we watched the first half of Aston Villa v Arsenal. That was excitement enough (0-0 at half time, 0-0 at full time), but then, after putting the kids to bed at 9.30pm, Claire and I realised we were so tired we had to go to bed too. Fast asleep by 11.30pm. A fantastic way to see the new year in. However, we were awake at 8am Bali time, which is midnight in London, so sort of saw the year in in a not-really-there kind of way. For those steam train enthusiasts amongst you (I know there are plenty of you out there), we went on ... read more

Dreamland is on the way to Uluwatu, south of Bali. It started as a big project in real estate from the son of the former president. After the elections the new president claimed the land back for the people of Bali. There are only big roads who are already in a very poor condition becaus nobody takes care of them. At the end there are beautiful big clifs with white sandy beaches. Small restaurants and losmen are build al the way up the clifs. During the day many tourists from Kuta visit Dreamland. At night the visitors are gone and the place is even more beautiful. At night you can have dinner in front of the beach, I had fresh grilled squit with french fries, mmmmmm !!!! A good night sleep was not easy because of ... read more

After a very long bus ride right into Jarkarta I found myself with little motivation of exploring this big city. So I took another very long bus ride right across all of Java and with the ferry to Bali. The touristic centre of Bali is Kuta, a beach town on a peninsular south of the capital Denpasar. Between the main street and the beach a maze of alleys offers every kind of accomodation, food, and souveniers a backpacker might think of, a bit like Bangkoks Khao Sarn Road relocated at a beach. But most of the places were pretty deserted. A local shop owner told me that several bombings, the last one in October 2005, scared away the masses of beach bums and surfers that are generally heading for the place. On the last incident two ... read more

With only a couple of weeks left in our trip, we decided to relax and really enjoy ourselves - meaning no more bus rides from hell - just beautiful beaches. We decided to spend a week on Gili Trawangan in Indonesia, and then 10 more days in Kuta (Bali). Gili Trawangan is a tiny tripical island with no motorcycles/cars and only 1 horse power Tuk Tuk's (They have 1 horse in front to pull them around!). Anyone can find their own section of white sand beach with no one in sight! For the week in Gili T we sat on the beach. When it was dark, we sat in the bar. When we felt adventurous, we snorkeled with turtles. That's pretty much all we did on Gili T - but it was fantastic! There was only ... read more

Hi all, I know, I know. I wasn't supposed to go traveling again for a good long while. But after no minutes of convincing by my dear friend, Michelle, we planned a trip to Bali around my 30th birthday. We spent about 10 days there and it was, by far, the most luxurious vacation ever! What do you expect when one hour long massages only cost $10!?! Anyway, here some pictures. I apologize if you have dial-up access cause there are a lot and it will probably take a few years to load this page. And not that it was really a site seeing tour since we spent most of our non-napping daylight hours in the ocean or shopping. So the pictures aren't that great but thought I'd share nonetheless. I also have some short little ... read more

October 17 to November 15 - Kuta and the south bit of Bali is very developed and was very empty, just two weeks outside of the latest round of bombings so I wouldn't call it a festive place anyway. Back on a motorcycle for 11 days, Bali requires an international drivers license, which I don't have, but I do have photoshop. Alright, it may not be smart but it should at least reduce the amount of the bribe I'll need to pay should I get pulled over. Some dive sites around Bali feature bleached out coral due to El Nino several years ago and fishing dynamite style, I picked a gorgeous site in the north west tip of the island, Manta rays and eels were the highlights. Lovina, north Bali, was a ghost town, maybe 6 ... read more
