Well I think I have found the most amazing place in the world!! The Royal Pita Maha has to be one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever set eyes on. The resort is absolutely empty, with only a scattering of visitors. This means that we have been treated like royalty for the last 3 days!! It is a constant source of amusement to Marion when the staff at the resort calls me “Mr Andrew”. This combined with the fact that they will do absolutely anything to make your stay as comfortable & pleasurable as possible has made for a very relaxing couple of days. The only negative point about the last couple of days is the weather, it has rained most of the time! Apparently this is quite common for the interior ... read more

Well at last I’ve finally posted an update to the travelblog!!!! Sorry to everyone who was concerned that I was dead. Unfortunately, I wasn’t just being a typical male and suffering from various ailments!!! Anyway, Marion (French Girl) arrived in town yesterday and I have moved from Sanur to Seminyak. The hotel is absolutely amazing, with direct access onto the beach!!! Also, the restaurants are amazing both in the locality and in the resort. We booked into the KU DE TA restaurant tonight, and both the meal and the atmosphere were great!!! I haven’t really managed anything too exciting in Bali up until now, but I hope to see a lot more in the next 10 days. Hopefully I will include this in this travelblog for your viewing pleasure. Until then take care and speak soon. ... read more

Welcome to paradise. Mel and I found a place on the internet which seemed very reasonably priced and turned out to be fantastic. Our Hotel was situated in a quiet part of Kuta in the midst of some beautiful gardens and was called Novus Bali Villa. Our room was more of a suite with bedroom, dressing room, varanda, outdoor dining area and, my favourite, an outdoor bathroom (trust me, going to the loo under the canopy while it's pouring with rain just in front of you is not to be missed, seriously!). As you would expect from this part of the world the service was impecable and on the last night we had a special Bali feast which consisted of 5 courses and about 15 different dishes! The first couple of days we lounged by the pool, ... read more

On our sail into Padang Bai, Bali, Indonesia, we pass low, green hills. A volcano rises majestically behind them shrouded in clouds. The wind blows and parts the puffy, whiteness to reveal the volcano’s jagged cone. Alan and I are taking pictures from the balcony when I spot many odd looking boats in the sea. They are white with leg-like appendages sticking out from each side into the water. They look like white tarantulas crawling along the water’s surface. When our ship gets closer to them, we see that they are fishing canoes. This morning, we are taking Radisson’s “Bali As You Please” tour with Tyler, Vicki, Stephanie and Phil. We will have two vans, each with a driver and interpreter who will show us around the island according to an itinerary that we choose. Stepping ... read more

Well I’ve been in Bali since Wednesday night, didn’t arrive at the hotel till 23:00 (been traveling for over 20 hours!!!) For the first three nights I booked into a really nice resort hotel called the Mercure Resort Sanur The resort was nice but very quiet. Mainly old German and Dutch tour groups, but probably ideal as it allows me some respite after Thailand. Have to say I felt a bit uneasy when I first arrived here, especially after the Australian government issued a warning to all its citizens not to visit the island!!! However, all the people I have met have been friendly even though security is high at all tourist hot spots. Met two Danish guys on Thursday, they were leaving straight away. Unfortunately, the Muslim world (Indonesia being the biggest country in the ... read more

WOW! What an amazing 3.5 months!!! As we boarded the plane last week for our 48 hour journey home, Leslie and I both wondered where the time had gone. From all the wonderful people we met and all the incredible sights we saw, we had a blast! For our last 2 weeks in Bali, we put away our Lonely Planet and introduced ourselves to vacation-mode! Ahhh, vacation! You know it's pretty bad when you need a vacation from your travels. It was nice to not have to pack up and move everyday or cram onto a bus at 6am!!! Now, don't get us wrong, our vacation-mode is not much different than travel-mode since there is still drinking, still sleeping in, and still eating....just lots more of it!!! Our friends from London, Ben and Tom (aka Prawn ... read more

So, the boys left for Perth and I went to the arts capital of Bali Ubud. I felt so sad leaving everyone and I think I was the only person staying in my hotel so it accentuated my lonliness!!! Anyway I had a really good time despite this walking about the area. They had a monkey forest which was really cool. if you've played Tomb Raider 3 it was like the first level in the game!!! !- I loved it!! At night at the royal palace they put on traditional dances so I went to see one of these and also a shadow puppet play which was really good. They give you information about the meaning of both so that was helpful.... read more

(Dave writes...) Well, we're in Singapore now. We arrived here yesterday from Denpasar in Bali. We spent a month split between Bali and neighbouring island Lombok, here's what we've been up to... We left our hostel in Perth on Thursday 29 January and arrived at the airport only to find that our flight no longer existed. Qantas had shifted us on to a different flight on the Friday morning, unfortunately no-one had told us! They also made us fly via Singapore and we lost our veggie inflight meals... anyway, back we went to our hostel after having said goodbye to the people we'd met there, feeling very daft, and stayed another night. People told us Perth was a hard city to leave, but I didn't realise how literally they were talking. We got away on the ... read more

So, I arrived in Bali and because I was arriving later than first planned, and was sick of crappy places to stay I booked a medium expensive hotel (actualy not even that expensive 12 pounds a night and VERY nice). There I met a Scottish guy and 8 Aussie's staying there. The Aussies were from Perth and went to school with the son of the owners Miky who was also there. I had a really really good couple of days. The hotel was not far from "Ground Zero" where the first Kuta Bali bomb was which was a bit scary. Anyway, there is not much to do but surf and shop and it was raining so I ended up staying in the hotel with the boys and watching DVDs!!!!! One night we went to a restaurant ... read more

Hello, We are leaving tonight for Bangkok. Lisa and Ben and their children, Daniel and Olivia, left last night and we will miss their company. We have Ay-lou looking after Jetson in the villa now, while we come to the internet cafe in Seminyak...... luxury. The Pearls and some of the gems are good and well priced here, so I am going to buy some to bring home and hopefully will come back to meet up with Lisa next year again if she would like to, to design and make some items for sale. I think I have some great ideas to run with. It has been great to be invited into her environment here and to see her skills at work. The people are very friendly, and although the tourism has dropped off, the inner ... read more
