Christmas eve was spent lounging on Seminyak beach, never done that before! It was beautiful, the sand is golden and the beach virtually empty. We treated ourselves to crimbo prezzies and bought some bracelets :) we spent the evening catching up with a buddy from London in a beach side bar which was very upmarket, def not what we are used to but made a nice change. Christmas day was great,it was too hot for the beach so we stayed by the pool and had a Christmas lunch of prawn crackers, special fried rice and satay chicken for me. We spent the evening in town where we dined in a fancy restaurant and back to our hotel bar for the night. it was def a christmas like no other,a nice change but not like a good family Christmas in the ... read more

What a day! Not packed, not ready for travelling. Trying get lots of things in my head so I could feel free when I travel. Tooth brush, passport, phone, and what else!? Thank god I am in Bali the Haven! OH yes, the Haven Hotel. OMG! It has a spa! Must try it but at 1045pm. After shower, I walked down to the bar having free drinks! "Are you travelling on your own!?", a guy with heavily American excent asked me. "Yes, I am on my own", I replied. So I joined him to his table. His name is Alan and he is from San Fransisco. We shared lots of stories about different countries and personal experiences in Bali.... read more

Sorry, we've been a bit bad with the blog updates lately, but we didn't have wifi so we'be got a good excuse! We started to get a bit fed up with Kuta, it's just so young and the sellers are so pushy they really start to get on your nerves! So we went to Seminyak and it's really cool. It's a lot quieter than Kuta and a bit more expensive but it's nice, got some really quirky restaurants and shops. We got a really good deal on a hotel too so we spent a lot of time just chilling out by the pool and going out in the evenings. We've both enjoyed Bali but were looking forward to Kuala Lumpur, meeting Beth and gettin to Thailand! We met Beth no problems, 45mins after her flight had ... read more

Aug 2nd - 7th I finally made it to Bali after flying from Istanbul to Doha, Qatar to Singapore to Denpasar, Indonesia. I was stuck next to a large smelly guy with three kids that ran all around the plane and his arm was halfway in my seat blocking all my air con. Fun Fun! Anyways I made it alright and was excited to see what I came for... and for the third time, meet Nicci. We will be spending a good amount of time together again as we plan to spend a few days relaxing in Bali before we head to Australia where we rented a campervan and plan to drive from Cairns to Melbourne for roughly 6-8 weeks. This will probably be a shorter entry since most of what we have been doing is ... read more

Taking the hotel shuttle bus down to Kuta this morning but not before we make a serious dent in the hotels buffet breakfast, it was pleasant to have a huge western style breakfast for the first time since leaving home. We arrived down in Kuta around 10am, the weather was pleasant so we began trawling through the many shops on Jalan Legian before, arriving at the travel agency that organised our Flores flights, they refunded the money we paid for the flight that wasnt, with out a hitch which suprised me as I had been pumping myself up for a fight. We then spent the next couple of ours walking down Legian buying whatever took our fancy, it wasn't long till I had bought my 6th Bintang shirt, a watch for my mum and various other ... read more

Not a good night the hotel backs onto a rice field and there was a strange hammering coming from outside all night. I cant use ear plugs because I have been bleeding from the right ear so I just had to put up with it and I did initially but around 11pm I had had enough so I went out to try and find the source of the noise which was in vain. I then went and banged on the door of the owners residence only to be told it was frogs making the racket, naturally I couldnt do anything about that so we just had to suffer then to top it off the Europeans returned and made way to much noise till about 1am, so much for sleeping. Consequently when we finally got to sleep ... read more

Have spent the last 10 days in Bali, driving around to Amed and Ubud after staying in Kuta. Hard Rock Hotel = CF 1. It was rubbish. Loud, busy, expensive and average food. Hard Rock Hotel Poll = CF 7. Best fun for 2 days with the kids sooooo much fun. We caught up with Jeremy Shepherd and Trish in Kuta. Amed is great and Santai villas were just brilliant. Traditional houses and snorkelling was just brilliant. Phoebe loved her first time snorkelling. Unfortunately the food at Santai was very average at best, even worse than Hard Rock. Fortunately they were many other great places. Santai CF = 7. Ubud was just busy. We had a villa a bit out of the way but that was good. We think it had just been taken over by ... read more

I forgot to mention that we are back to being multi-millionaires again as the local currency has a ridiculous amount of zeros on the notes. One of our last meals in Sanur had been in the town centre where we were plagued with a well-meaning but over zealous waiter. He hovered behind us and popped up at the table every two minutes to pour another inch of drink or to move a plate around and became very annoying. His killer move was when we cut our pizza and picked up the first slices - our pesky waiter dived in with a napkin and swooped up all of the cheese strings between the slice in our hands and the plate (yep, all the best bits), so we had to firmly but politely tell him to go ... read more
