Not feeling hugely motivated to rush out of bed I didn't and had a lay in. After enjoying the ( included in the price ) breakfast I spent the next couple of hours researching flights out from Bali, as my visa is expiring in 10 days time. After chatting to the staff and working out that there is no public transport on the huge island, and so obvious difficulties for getting around I headed out first to get my haircut! Having had a few issues with my feet this last week - first small sores that became infected - dirty, dusty roads and pavements with hot sweaty feet in cheap sandals. After being treated and purchasing some more sandals these also decided they were going to rub against my feet but a different area! Plasters not ... read more

I can't believe Bali has already come and gone! What an amazing place! Peaceful, beautiful, friendly people... I now understand the big fascination with the Balinese culture. I had one night alone in Seminyak where I stayed at a beautiful little villa that I shared with a young couple. Neyomen, the manager of the property, picked me up from the airport and could not have been nicer and more welcoming. After a very long day of traveling I fell right asleep upon arrival so I could wake up and have a full day at the beach before heading to Ubud. I woke up in the morning and eagerly got ready and head out to find the beach. The walk was an easy one, only ten minutes or so, but down a fairly busy street. Looking around ... read more

Well surf school started yesterday. 7 am morning session was hard to drag ourselves out for but it was worth it. The sea is remarkably warm even at that time though the Balinese surf instructors feel very cold in it! Tomorrow is phils birthday and rather than 2 sessions it's a beach trip day so hopefully we'll find somewhere nice for lunch. Also we've managed to break a fin, lose a fin and break a board! We're doing well!... read more

After the wedding, my friends and I moved from the traffic madness of Kuta to the only-slightly quieter, and perhaps posher area of Seminyak. Both areas still share the same long, wide beach on the western coast, but while Kuta is known perhaps for its lively nightclubs, bikini babes and dread-locked Beach Cowboys, Seminyak is the flashpacker or slightly more family-oriented area for those with more dollars (and rupiah) to spend. And while I'd checked out Seminyak my previous visit, I certainly hadn't engaged in the white water rafting that my friends and I did this time round. 2h+ of pretend paddling down a surprisingly fast-flowing river, and a couple of capsizes later, we somehow still managed to emerge more or less unscathed! Stayed at Ananda Resort.... read more

Quick tips: If you're tired of drinking Bintang, try the following: - Two Islands wine - 2012 - Ultimino's Cabernet Merlot - Tequila but you have to try it with an orange slice covered in cinnamon instead of lemon & salt as recommended by the locals Semenyak Uber cool - on the first night we ate at Ultimato - a trendy Italian restaurant complete with live opera (bit odd) but the ambience was great in this place. A slightly older crowd making us feel quite at home. We waited for a table at the back, in the garden but if you have an option get a street table - there was a longer wait for this and man mountain was too hungry to wait!! Food - 7/10 Wine - 6/10 Ambience - 8/10 We were heading ... read more

Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua have one major thing in common: they are seen as some of the most popular tourist beaches in Bali, Indonesia. Although they do have a lot to offer in terms of beach activities and general convenience, they neither have the nicest sand nor the clearest water on the famous island. During a recent trip to Bali, I had the opportunity to check out a bunch of beaches ranging from these world famous strips to some secluded gems. One of those gems turned out to be Geger Beach. After renting a moto from my guesthouse in the Kuta region, I made my way south past the Ngurah Rai International Airport en route to the gated resort area of Nusa Dua. Some friends of mine were staying at the tranquil Ayodya Resort, so ... read more

Over the past few days we have done heaps. The day before yesterday we went to a new resort Villa Kya Lama that was in the middle of rice fields. It was beautiful. That morning we went for a ride on their bikes we could borrow. The ride was very nice and it was great to explore the village right next to Villa Kya Lama. Our Villa actuly had a pool to our selves except I didn't go in it cause it was cold but don't worry i am thinking of those at home. We spent a night there then headed to Seminyak to ... read more

I thought I would update this whilst the trip is still fresh in my mind.... Most Australians we have met since being in Perth have suggested we go to Bali, since the flight prices are so cheap. So we decided spontaneously one evening to book flights for April, although we didn't actually book our accomodation until a few days before we left (something's never change!). Having heard all sorts of weird and wonderful stories about Bali, we weren't quite sure what to expect. Some people we have met loved it, others didn't but all recommended we must "experience Bali" before leaving Perth. After speaking to a friend, she was able to recommend which area we should stay in, as well as telling us the places to avoid staying. After quite a traumatic landing into Bali airport ... read more

Bali 2013 – How it All Happened Wednesday 27th February - Woohoo, the day had finally arrived, heading off to Bali for a 5 night break, catching up with the Rat, the Burger, the Stork and the Gaz. Arrived at the airport in plenty of time and joined the queue to check in, all uneventful, and headed to get some duty free. 1 bottle of Gin, and 2 bali plugs later, and we headed for a coffee Hung around for a while having coffee, then said our sad farewells, tears in our eyes, and I waved as I left Clare (turned around as I went through the gate, and noticed Clare had already left and was halfway down Tonkin Highway, tyres screeching) – maybe she left the iron on, or had food in the oven? Anyway, ... read more
