We flew into Denpasar this afternoon. This place is amazing. We have rooms at a place run by nuns and we even have air conditioning. I will definately appreciate it knowing that I am not going to have that luxury much longer. After a cool shower we walked to a local restaurant where we had a great dinner outside, while watching the traffic fly past and the stray dogs sniff around. A particularly scruffy one was just chased out of the back kitchen by the young woman who served us. Tomorrow we fly to Dili, East Timor. ... read more

Dear All Long time with no blogging but lots of travelling - now we are settled in New Zealand for a few weeks I’ll bring the blog up to date starting with our time in Indonesia, After leaving the children’s home in Thailand at the end of November I flew to Indonesia (Bali) to meet Colin where we lived for two days in a luxury beach side hotel - a bit of a contrast to the cockroach farm passing itself off as a hotel which we moved to two days later in Kupang, West Timor. Bali and West Timor are just two of the 17,500 island of Indonesia that make up the archipelago which straddles the so called ‘ring of fire’ along the Pacific’s colliding tectonic plates. Indonesia is a zone of geophysical violence; earthquakes, volcanic ... read more

Yup. Bali. Beach haven. We are lucky with the weather and just got in ahead of a 10,000 delegate Globel Warming Conferance that starts on December 3rd. We will miss most of the security that will be in place, with such measures as barbed wire across the roads etc. We still feel safe because whenever our vehicle goes into a parking lot security men scan the underneath for bombs. Ya never know if you are next. lol First day on the the beach was R&R. Second day was an excursion to some shops and temples in the Eastern part of Bali. It seems they believe alot in Black magic and Voodoo. I had a talk with our guide who seems quite adament that his family is cursed and his sister has been suffering blindness because of ... read more

I made it to Bali safe and sound. It is +33 today, so far.....it's not even lunchtime yet!! My kuta cabbie tried to sucker me into a different hotel by telling me the one I was going to sucked...., he really had me worried!! But once I was there.....WOW!!!! for $18 a night is is like a resort it is soooo saweeet! The internet here is not by any means high speed, and it took me forever to get to this webpage!! So I probably won't update or expecially be putting pictures on from here.....I am kinda really really excited about my hotel!!!! I think I might spend a couple days at one of the pools. The beach here is full of hawkers and they grab you, literally, to sell you stuff. And of course I ... read more

All the girls went for a massage. Lynne and Julie were just having a foot massage; I had a full body massage. An air conditioned mini bus collected us and drove us to Densapar. Our feet were washed and massaged in petal soaked bowls. Then were we led to a room full of massage beds and whilst the two girls just had the feet job, I was massaged with oils, from head to toe literally, back and front and it was heaven. The only part I didn’t enjoy was when the girl cracked every one of my fingers and toes, a very weird experience. In the evening we attended the Balinese evening, or should i say a BBQ, consisting of an assortment of asian food, very tasty and wonderful desserts. The dancing was impressive but rather ... read more

Kaksi edellista paivaa ollaan vietetty snorklaten itarannikolla sijaitsevassa Amedin kylassa. Merenalainen elama on kylla mahdottoman kiinnostavaa. Upeita kaloja ja kauniita koralleja. Hyvin olisi voinut viela pari paivaa uiskennella - vaan Australia odottaa. Lisaan kuvia jahka paasen edullisemman yhteyden aarelle...... read more

All that was left was a jet stream For the last 4 years I have been stuck in school dreaming of the surf and the sand, and now I have a chance to live the dream. I am off to Southeast asia with a good friend to hit the beaches and explore a very interesting part of the world. I am looking forward to posting many pictures and updating the page as much as possible. Had a great christmas with teh family and got to see many friends. There was tones of snow up here this year which was awsome, but the ski hill lift broke and I got no riding in. Boooo! Though I did get to ride some sweet sleds..yeah Mountain Cat 800 twin. To whom it may concern, mainly Nige and Shawna: I am sorry about the appaling spelling, punctuation and grammar in all of my blogs. I can write in 'correct' english when I want to. However while away travelling I have to balance the tasks of keeping a blog, and actually doing the things I write about. This means I rarely if ever proof read, or even think about what I write. So shove your grammar up your nostrils (or something slightly ruder...). So to my final full day in Bali. After breakfast Suni took me to see his friend Alit Satria who is a painter and sculptor. We went to his home/studio and Alit showed me his extensive range of work which covered a number of styles from the traditional to modern. He has undertaken a ... read more

The sound of motorbikes never really stops in Depasar, but it does calm down. However I was woken at around 6 a.m. as the morning madness resumed. I went downstairs and ordered Nasi Goreng (fried rice), fruit and Balinese coffee which was a different, but fantastic way to start the day. I walked down the the 3 storey Pasar Badung market. The ground floor was all meat, fish, fruit and veg and not a place for the squeamish. The first floor was all herbs and spices, and the top floor was mainly clothing and homewares. I was accosted by a self appointed guide the second I entered who took me around desperate to get my to buy anything, whether I wanted it or not. I soon learnt to express interest at nothing, although she did talk ... read more
