Saturday 14th February SHAVE DAY Now if you have done your homework, you will now know that one of the things that has to be done within 24 hours of the Otonan ceremony is the “Official Head Shaving”. It doesn’t really matter who does it, but Niang (may be spelled wrong, I have no idea) other grandmother was elected as she has great experience at doing this and as you can imagine, it’s not something you want to mess around with. ... read more

Friday 13th February. The Otonan Once again Jayden’s Otonan was a huge affair with bells, whistles, padandas (priests), holy water, live chickens and ducks, family and friends and a whole lot more. If you would like to know more about the Balinese Otonan or birthday then take a look here: http://blog.baliwww.com/arts-culture/1378 It can explain it a whole lot better than me. I am just going to explain it using photographs. Enjoy! ... read more

The party was huge, fun and hot and held at Tasha's "school". Children and adults had a great time, which after all is the whole point. Toby insisted that I have a beer - at 10a.m! After that I went onto "Te Botol", iced, sweet black tea in a bottle - really nice. Unlike our birthday parties, the gifts are not opened until it’s all over with everyone gone home and as not many had gift tags, no one has any idea who bought what. I suppose it gets around everyone trying to outdo each other! I hope you like the photos, bit worried about my grandchildren’s drinking habits though!!! By the way, my Australian phone is still playing up so for now I shall use one Toby has given me with an Indonesian number. It ... read more

Friday 6th February, so exciting to plan so scary to do! What a strange feeling at the airport. Friends taking me to the airport and seeing me off. Lex and Lauren feeling happy for me but sad also and all of us doing a great job of not saying what is in our heads and hearts. Such a good job in fact that at 9a.m. Lauren asked when I should go through to the departure gate. The flight was due to take off at 9.15a.m. and I hadn’t even been through security or immigration or more importantly - duty free! We all ran to the gate and I was through security in an instant while I listened to my name being called over the loud speakers. There was only just time for a quick hug with ... read more

Thursday 5th of February was a day to remember, for being wonderful and dreadful! Lex and Sam were in hospital getting ready to welcome my 3rd grandchild into the world, which was wonderfully exciting for me, although Sam was having a very long, hard labour. Naturally the most important thing to me was keeping in touch with Lex. So when my mobile phone was disconnected mid morning, I was beside myself. All my numbers were in that phone and I had them nowhere else. I felt totally cut off from the most important people in my life. Yes, over the top I know, but this was a very emotional time. I was leaving early the next morning and had no way of contacting people. My land line was about to be disconnected too! Well to cut ... read more

I got a surprise call form Rostering saying: “your roster has changed...you’re leaving for Malaysia and Indonesia tonight”. Well it’s more than 7 hours flight but I was so excited I couldn't’t sleep...the last view hours on the plane I could not keep my eyes open, but I survived. The hotel is at the airport so it was a few minutes and we were in our comfortable rooms. Some of us decided to meet up and go to the city of Kuala Lumpur with the airport train (we get a discount as cabin crew). 28 min with the airport train you arrive at the KL Central Station where you can take the underground/sky trains. We went to Butik Bintang where you can shop till you drop and eat for cheap. After some food and no sleep ... read more
