22.04.2017 Started Return journey on 22.04.2017. The road was same round and round. At one point, Nayan showed us that tunnel near the stupa which has a building of Hydro electric project. We did little photography. The bus stopped for a long time at the diversion. The nature was pleasant here. Then we started our journey to Jaigaon, West Bengal. Entered Indian area and difference was noted immediately. In India there was was no control and no one asked anything. Lots of vehicles were coming from Bhutan to India. We did not noticed any checkpost. When we had walked to Bhutan for visa purpose and came back to Hotel for taking our luggage that time also we had gone through Indian checkpost. The sentry there were just observing the people coming in. May be it was ... read more

This place is relatively an emerging and offbeat destination in East Sikkim. Today it is fast emerging as a new tourist destination. It is not easy to get rid of the taste of Northeast India. You go there once and you will keep going there. It was the same case with us - last summer was Assam and Meghalaya and this summer it was Sikkim. Sikkim is a small state nestled between Nepal and Bhutan and is home to the third highest mountain peak - Kanchendzonga or Kanchanjunga. What more can you ask for when you are in the lap of the majestic Himalayas. Sikkim is also credited to be the first 'fully organic state'of India. This means all the agricultural produce is completely organic and you can eat anything without being concerned about the pesticides. It also has banned the use of plastic bags and stayfoam. Since the nearest airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra (in West Bengal), ... read more

A final hurrah using his final LTC before his retirement. And so the plan was made for our Sikkim trip to celebrate my dad's retirement the next year (Darjeeling included but I didn't like it that much so I have no issue leaving it out of the title). This time my dad's friend GP Nagarajan and his wife Shashikala also decided to join us. The planning phase started and we had a look at all the popular tourist attractions in Sikkim. Initially my mom was doubtful whether to choose Gurudongmar lake and Yumthang valley as Gurudongmar Lake is at 17,800 ft altitude and hence, it is generally warned that low oxygen levels might cause issues. I saw its pics and reviews and tried my best to convince her that it was not that dangerous. Finally she ... read more

My journey to this land begins with I boarding the train at the Guwahati railway station. It was a one night journey to New Jalphaiguri where we boarded the heritage “Toy train”. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life I along with my family and my relatives went to visit this beautiful place of East India, the Lofty Hill, Gangtok. India is a land of diversity and Sikkim is one such antique diverse element. Like any other hill station, Gangtok has a similar ambience with a little pinch of sophistication. The Toy train journey to the Darjeeling was one of the best I ever had. The greenery and the clouds were simply breathtaking. There are many routes but we took this just because of this enticing toy train journey. At the dusk, we ... read more

I recently visited North East (India), covering Gangtok – Pelling – Darjeeling over a span of around 9 days. It is a ‘must visit’ place for all of us who appreciate the simpler & finer things in life. Gangtok is a modern city with well laid out infrastructure, sorted public transportation & stylish market places. What instantly attracted me to the city was its cleanliness! Some of the main places to visit around Gangtok are - Tshangu Lake, Baba Mandir &Nathu La (Indo China border). Taxis are easily available to all these places. However, be ready for a long jolting drive dangerous enough to scare the shit out of you, unless you are an adventure freak like me! The roads connecting Gangtok to all these places are very narrow (at specific p... read more

The road to Sikkim sees us driving up and down steep mountain roads with more pot holes than road and many long stretches of dirt and loose stones where the original metalled surface has been washed away by previous monsoon rains. The roads are narrow with just enough space for two vehicles, steep hillside on one side of the car and sheer drops on the other - incredibly challenging driving but fortunately we have an excellent driver!! We are travelling up through ancient forests of giant bamboos, massive ferns, small and large trees of numerous varieties - including figs, laurels, pines, oak, chestnut, maple, birch, silver fir, magnolias many of which are in flower - together with immense rhododendron bushes with dark red flowers - all of which cover the incredibly steep mountain sides. Looking back ... read more

It was a sunny day in the month of April 2013, and I was sitting on my couch and watching some regular travel programs on TV at my home. It has been few days since I was thinking of planning a trip to some place in India during this summer. Many of us who are aware about the weather in India, will certainly know that the most parts of India remains very hot during these summer months with temperature ranging from 40 to 50*C. With exceptions like the mighty Himalayas of north and few other hills spread across India. Hence going to some place cold was the top line of the idea. Finalizing the place of visit:- Once decided that I will be going to some hill station, I was showered with the ideas ... read more
