From Ranthambore NP Kristen and I were firmly travelling together and our first stop was in Jaipur where we saw the pink city and the Tiger fort. Meeting up with Phillipe and Colleen (who were staying up at the fort) at the Astrological gardens and going up to the fort for sunset was lovely. We also went to a small museum with many interesting artifacts. Spending time with Kristen was high on my priorities. ... read more

Tried to find a bookshop to exchange our books, but useless- we only found one who would only give us Rs 40 for a book- shit! Emailed prospective hotel in Mumbai and returned to hotel via tut tut (gave in!!) Had evening meal on roof top; sat with 2 itallian men who were good company( one had lived in london during the punk movement!) Rang parents- top to speak to them; Rs 300 for approx 9 minutes. To train station for 14:45- took bloody ages to find our carriage.... and when we did , it wasn't long before we heard "problems.... no carriage.... get off!!" Spoke to staion master who told us to "sit anywhere"; sat next to a swiss lad, the carriage was full of soldiers. Eventually the conductor arrived "you must change to another carriage!!" 2 hours later when the train eventually stopped we got off ( nightmare stairs to negotiate to get off the train; Bri nearly decked it) We were led into a carriage ... read more

had a slight hangover today!!! Firstly went to the shop next door to hotel paradise and bought our other stuff, which we had bought- his tailor agreed to sew a parcel up for us ( 7 cushion covers, 2 welcome doors, bedspread, 2 photo albums, 3 bags and a postcard for Rs 150- weighed 4kg. We then went to the post office, where apparently wax can be found to seal the parcel....NOT!!! We then started the great wax hunting debarcle! You are not allowed to send parcels unless they have been sealed by red wax... so we had to get back in the rickshaw and back to the fort! EVENTUALLY found a handicraft shop who agreed to do it with a red candle and a rupee coin! Back to the post office with 20 minutes before ... read more

Got up at 05:00 for our deluxe bus to Jodphur.....NOT!!! We were the only westerners which was cool, however we stopped for everyone on the highway. We even made stops that were not on the way so that selling and buying could go on!! Loads of people sat on the roof and in the aisle- absoloutley boiling. Took over 5 hours. Rickshaw blokes at the bus station were an absoloute nuisance. We decided to stay at the hotel which we stayed at last time (rickshaw bloke had no idea were he was going ) and there was a march for BJP going on right through town which exacerbated the situation. Eventually got to the "Royal Palace"- not quite a palace but it is clean and we knew that they sell beers!. Wanted Rs 1,500 for a ... read more
