My first travel blog entry! I’m so excited! I’ll be in India from August 9 through September 5 to study homeopathy. My plan was to observe a doctor in clinical practice in Mumbai, but last week in Mumbai they had the most rainfall at one time in the history of India, complete with flooding, power outages, and water shortages. I was nervous at first, but I got over it. Then it rained again and clean-up has been quite slow and the death count high. Even though I'm not worried anymore (maybe I have no concept of the reality there!), my parents ARE, and so as not to give my parents heart failure, I am reconsidering my plans. My ticket is non-changeable, so I was going to cancel it and buy another one to a different city... ... read more

Indien Das wichtigste zuerst: Mir gehts gut. Am naechste... read more

The time has finally come for us to move on from Nagpur -the most normal Indian city we have visited so far. By normal I don’t mean at all that the last few weeks here have been a disappointment - in fact quite the opposite. By just being somewhere off the tourist trail (Napgur gets just one page in our lonely planet guide) you learn about what normal, everyday, Mr and Mrs India and their family get up to. I now know that many Nagpurians have Christmas carols as their mobile phone rings. I know that Army lorries are used here as school buses. I know that when stray dogs are hit by speeding 4X4’s, nobody reacts. I know that plumbers and electricians charge well under £1 for a couple of hours work, and if they’re ... read more

We arrived here yesterday morning and it was raining quite a bit, my first impression of India was seeing a dog run across the runway in front our plane after we had landed! The airport was very sparse and it is very humid everywhere. After filling in about 4 forms and waiting in as many queues we finally managed to work our way out of the airport only to be told that the hotel I had pre booked for us was a dump and in the middle of the red light district (Grant Road) with no places of interest nearby! We therefore decided to change accommodation to a more desirable location (Colaba) and took a "cool cab" (AC included) to the city centre. After driving through probably 10 miles of shanty towns we arrived in central ... read more

Well, we finally have gotten around to writing the next update... a huge apology to all of you who have been waiting for this one!! We last left off arriving at Mumbai airport after a ridiculous 2 day journey from Kigali... So here we were in Mumbai! We worked our way through the rather disappointingly small airport, got our bags, figured out how taxis worked in the country, and headed off to our hotel! Now we had heard lots of stories about taxi drivers in the lonely planet and from other travellers. Basically, one of the most popular scams is where the taxi driver tells you that the hotel you are going to is likely to be fully booked. Or closed down. Or burnt down! He then kindly offers to take you to another one which ... read more

Hooray!! Time to go to India! After enduring what seemed like an interminable period of incredibly boring food, it was time to go somewhere where they used spices!! We had been looking forward to India for a variety of reasons. Apart from the food, there was the culture, the insane traffic, and of course several centuries of history and architecture to look at!! We were also steeling ourselves for the horde of beggars that we imagined descending upon us even as we left the airport... Our lonely planet told us that June is NOT the time to go to India, as this is the really really hot season, but hey, we didn't have a choice but figured that if we could cope with the desert in Tunisia and Egypt, we could cope with anything India could ... read more
