''True Faces - North Fake'' is a series of portraits, made in the town of Leh and during the Zanskar Frozen River Trek. In january februari 2010 I joined an astonishing trekking in the Jammu Kashmir region in the most northern part of India. It is called the Zanskar Frozen River Trek. The trekking is only possible a few weeks a year when the ice is thick enough to walk the 120 kilometres on the river from Leh to Zanskar and back. With an altitude of 3.500 metres and temperatures below 30 degrees at night the conditions are harsh and it is strenuous. But this gets fully compensated by the stunning landscape and its amazing people. They are poor but strong, friendly, unspoiled and always have a laughter on their face. They can not afford expensive ... read more

then we had to explain a lot that we had been travelling high altitude places before plenty of times. and had been to Ladakh in Summers couple of times. so we want to experience the beauty of this place in a different season. though none was convinced with that crazy answer neither were we... after taking tea. we kept our luggage on that shop itself and hunted for a place to stay. most of the hotels were closed. finally we were able to get a room in a hotel that was partially closed but owner was still staying there. they charged heavily. and there were couple of restriction too... * Only 1 bucket water will be given for the day.....(though other forms of water(Ice and snow) were in surplus) * Electricity will come only for an ... read more

One needs to get completely out of one's head or physically very strong to visit Ladakh in Winters. I and Vijay certainly fall in the former category. Was it an attempt to get out of rut ? ..or an escapist tendency that lead us to Ladakh in Jan 2009. Delhi was already colder. and yet we decided to take the only running morning flight to Leh ( one can not reach Leh by road in winters as all the connecting passes are closed )....Flight was half empty and half full. Apprehension already disappeared though excitement still persisted. We were not sure for how long we are going stay there. a precipitous trip like all time. random thoughts of demented mind were running through our head.. Duration of flight was less than 2 hour. and we landed ... read more

An unforgettable road trip with my sweetheart, spanning more than 3500 km in 9 days, witnessing tough terrains, snow clad mountains, traversed world’s top 3 highest motorable mountain passes , did rafting in Sonamarg, Camel (double humped) Safari in Hunder, Nubra, visited war-memorials in Kargil & Drass, witnessed snow fall at Khardungla, Hailstorm in Bilaspur & camped at Panamik, Nubra. To sum it up, it was an ultimate road trip with one of the best roads in India (NH 1) to one of the worst & unimaginable terrains - we drove it all - right from mud, snow, ice, rocks, drains, broken bridges, dust storm, hail storm, heavy rainfall, broken road, no roads, off-roads without apparent damage to the car. We are glad to have made it all - just the way we love it. Read ... read more

Pangong Lake also known as Pangong Tso , was one of my recent travel destinations during the Manali - Srinagar drive . I chose to start my first blog with this place beacuse to me its God's best canvas , where Mother nature reveals her beauty ! Pangong Lake is stretched over a length of 130km, bisected by International border between India and China. Its widest point is approximately 6km in distance. The Lake is situated at the height of 14500ft/4420m above sea level. The major portion of the Pangong Lake falls in Chinese territory; only ¼ part of the lake is in Indian Territory of Ladakh region. Pangong Lake is about 164 km drive from Leh, capital city of Ladakh, a province of state of Jammu & Kashmir. We drove from Leh to Pangong and ... read more

19th June 2010 We started our journey as per plan, we then reached the Pune - Mumbai Express highway.. really a well planned highway considering the mountain path. Roads were pretty good from Mumbai to Baroda (it was a normal NH), We took another express highway from Baroda to Ahmadabad. We then had our dinner in Ahmadabad to move to hemathnagar to stay overnight. DAY2 Pune - Himathnagare (850 KM) Road - 3.75 out of 5 (Mumbai to Suraj highway is just a normal NH) Weather - 3 out of 5 (Very humid once we enter Gujrat) Lesson learnt - Never enter city (This time it was our Mumbai city) 20th 21st June 2010 DAY 3 ( Himathnagar - Chandigarh) Day/Night 1150 KM We started our journey very late, our initial plan was to travel till ... read more

22nd June 2010 300 KM We started our journey from hot box to fridge. 2 more friends joined us in Chandhigarh that made our total to 9. We hired two Scorpio so that we can save our car’s life, I’ve heard a little too much about the road to Manali. I guess all said and done it was really an amazing drive, Himachal Pradesh was one of the best drive that you can get. You’ll be traveling about 25 - 35 Km along the river side and a single mistake on road can be fatal. We saw a hanging bridge which was really fun and a little scare considering the fact that we are on bridge which is shaky!! I had a lot of expectation out of Manali but weather did disappoint me (ooty is cooler ... read more

27th June So one more late night meant that we would be late in the morning. We planned to go to Khardung la passs (highest motorable road on earth). Roads are a really challenge for the driver. Khardung la pass was a little crowded (you can see a lot of people on bikes), my best bet is that Khardung la is the pinnacle of biking. We did not stop at Khardung la as we knew that we should pass Khardung la when coming back from Nubra. We drove to all the way to Nubra, at Nubra Valley puzzled me we the natures diversity. You can find Sand dunes , greenery, water & mountains, what else you want from nature. After few photo shoot we went to a military canteen and to our shock Dosa was on ... read more

26th June We had to compensate for the sleepless night at pang due to the weather (extremely cold), every slept well! Few decided to get ready early to check on the Leh fort, Old fort that should be visited if you have time. We told everybody that it is not worth wasting time on visiting the fort, we had our brunch and decided to go to Pang gong so. Road to Pang gong lake is quite good, from leh it will take about 4 to 5 hours to reach Pang gong. It is one of the amazing places on earth, 130 km lake (40% belongs to India and 60 to China). It is a salt water lake in the valley, you can really feel the color blue. Amazing place to visit, you can also stay there ... read more

18th June 2010 Finally a day that we were all waiting for!!! All the plans, resist & the fighting that we had for 3 years on when we will be going to leh has finally come, I’m really satisfied writing after my 1st day. It’s really an amazing feeling considering the fact that we have people from different profession and getting them all together was always tough! Having said that we are here and I would love to brief about how the roads are and what you can expect….. As per the plan we all assembled at the beginning of the NICE road in Magdi Road, We got our Leh uniform (what an amazing feeling that we have a T-shirt of our trip that we were planning for so long. After few pic’s we started our ... read more
