''True Faces - North Fake'' is a series of portraits, made in the town of Leh and during the Zanskar Frozen River Trek.

In january februari 2010 I joined an astonishing trekking in the Jammu Kashmir region in the most northern part of India. It is called the Zanskar Frozen River Trek. The trekking is only possible a few weeks a year when the ice is thick enough to walk the 120 kilometres on the river from Leh to Zanskar and back.

With an altitude of 3.500 metres and temperatures below 30 degrees at night the conditions are harsh and it is strenuous. But this gets fully compensated by the stunning landscape and its amazing people. They are poor but strong, friendly, unspoiled and always have a laughter on their face. They can not afford expensive clothing against the unbearable cold but fake North Face clothing can be bought everywhere for little money.
