Yesterday I had a really great day. I just woke up and got ready for my afternoon tutoring. Sally was a little energy-consuming and Joe was great as usual. Then I went over to HaoSha and worked out a little bit. Even though I couldn't work out too much I was able to do a little bit and take a shower afterwards. I walked out of HaoSha feeling like I was on top of the world. It was such a great feeling. I knew that I had got some stress out of my body even though I hadn't felt that much before I went to the gym. Anyways, I went over to L Salon as has become my usual but they had the doors closed. I walked up anyways and everyone was sitting in a corner ... read more

Yesterday I got up to go take my pants in to get tailored (since they were too long for me) it was an exhorbedent price of 6 kuai total (about $0.75). Then I went over to Russell's place to talk to his maid about coming over next Tuesday to clean my place. It hasn't been cleaned since I got here and while it isn't too bad it definitely does need a bit of cleaning. I think I may have her come once a month or once every other week. Then Russell and I went to meet Craig, Cat and Craig's tutoring student's grandmother to go shopping at Parkson's (a fairly expensive department store nearby). Craig got a pair of nice PJs and we all came back to stop for a quick bite to eat. We were ... read more

I believe yesterday (November 1st) was All Saint's Day but don't quote me. I had a really kick ass day. In the morning I woke up to take a bus over to Victory Square. After a little while Julia, Shina, Russell, Cat and Nancy all met me there and we went down underground. Victory Square is a huge underground shopping mall. There's a bowling alley down there so we got to play two games for a total price of 12 kuai per person ($1.50). It was a pretty normal bowling alley. At first our two teams were playing against each other (Julia, Cat and I versus Russell, Nancy and Shina). Our team lost by 5 points total. Then Nancy had to leave to meet some of her friends and we each played individually against each other. ... read more

So for whatever reason I thought today was Halloween yesterday and told some of my classes that. I think it's okay because we mostly talked about what we do on the day instead of which day it is. I still can't believe I forgot though. It's kind of strange to be out of the country for a fairly big holiday. You always miss the things that you used to do all of the time. But then again it's also strange to be in a country having a holiday that they've always had and you've never had. When I was in India for ... I can't remember which holiday it was ... maybe Diwali. There were a lot of fireworks on a random day and I just pretended like it was July 4th even though it was ... read more

So things have changed a bit around here. I'm not sure if I wrote this or not but our old principal has retired due to personal reasons (and basically working herself way too hard). We have a new foreign teacher who, surprisingly enough, is from Cleveland. This is strange because not only is he from Cleveland but he went to OSU (main campus in Columbus) which is 40 minutes from my school. Also he dated the daughter of a woman who works at Denison's library (where I worked). I don't know this particular woman very well but it's still a very small world. He's only 4 years older than I am so I may have even seen him at some point during my freshman year. He's been in Dalian for a year now and so knows ... read more

So it's been a little while since I've written last. I've started to fall into a schedule which I'm not sure that I really like very much. It mainly includes me waking up on Saturday and Sunday wondering why I've taken this job. I love the students, the other teachers and the classes but I don't love the schedule. I believe I would rather teach the same time of the day many days in a row instead of having class from 2:30-8pm on M&F, no class on T&R, class from 10-6:30 on W and class from 8-6 on S&S. This type of schedule really messes with my head. I'm trying to get more tutoring classes so that I can have more of a normal schedule but I don't know how well it will work out in ... read more

So apparently everything is going pretty keen with my health. I have to continue taking the stomach medicine until it's done even though my stomach seems to be pretty fine. My ear problem turned into a sticky issue. Apparently I have so much ear wax that I can't hear. I went to the hospital again today and they had me buy some water type stuff. Then they put a thin metal straw on the bottle so they could dump it deep into my ear. It immediately came out into a small basin they had next to my head. It felt fine for a little while and was working but then I felt like I was about to pass out and was so dizzy I couldn't open my eyes. That made me extremely weak all over and ... read more

So I'm finally back in Dalian now. Got back on Saturday at about 5am. We had just recently gone to sleep at 3am and when I woke up I was so tired that I was in hysterics most of the way home. I apparently asked the cab driver "Do you have Teacher's building?" instead of "Do you know the Teacher's building?" he understood anyways and I didn't even realize I had asked the wrong question until Cat told me. When I got back to my apartment I immediately passed out and woke up again at about 2pm. It felt so great to be back in Dalian and know where I was and that I could take a shower whenever I wanted to and have clean clothes whenever I wanted to. I was on top of the ... read more

Yesterday Cat and I met for lunch at Sandy and Sunny's place. We had some peanuts and grapes for a snack while Sunny cooked us some food - including some great clams. Then we walked to Zhongshan Square and then met Russell in Xinghai Park. We were going to take a hike but just ended up taking a walk behind the Dalian Seashell Museum. We then went to meet Wayne and yet another of his girls at a fancy jaod-zi place. It looked like the inside of a temple and had a lot of Russians (generally meaning it's expensive). Later we got to go to Morgan's again. I then went home and packed. Unfortunately, my alarm didn't go off again and I woke up at 8amto throw my stuff together and run to meet Cat and ... read more

Well, tomorrow's October 1st. The first day of our break. I believe Cat and I will be off traveling around Dalian tomorrow. We are scheduled to have lunch with one of the people from the front desk (named Sandy) at her house tomorrow so that should be super fun. Maybe I'll have some time to get some winter clothes before we leave Dalian (as it is getting cold around here). Yesterday I woke up late and came to meet Merry and Windy (I thought it was Wendy but she spells it "Windy" which is kinda cool) at school. Then they took me on the bus to Zhongshan square (pretty much the major downtown area of Dalian - there are TONS of squares around here). We met Julia there and the three of them had to work ... read more
