So it's taken me a little while to write now because I've had to start from scratch on the settling in. Now I have a lot more friends here in Dalian and not only do I have the classes at Rockies but I have added three more classes outside of Rockies. These are classes that I wouldn't be able to teach at Rockies for two reasons. The first reason is that the school teaches children under the age of 18 and the second reason is that the school is based primarily on the fact that the students can understand Chinese. Therefore when the students are learning new words we just give them the words in English and the translator gives the words in Chinese. However one of my new classes is a Korean boy who doesn't ... read more

Never know which side of the fencepost my relationship with Camillo will land on. The two sides are the "we're dating" and "we're really close friends" sides. Who knows what will end up happening. I think from my end of things they don't look too promising on the "we're dating" side but that's okay. Every day we become closer and closer and every day we understand each other a little bit more (although sometimes it seems like we're backtracking). Last night was a real ... interesting night. I went over to the Salon and neither Camillo nor his brother were there (nor were any customers). I just sat and started reading Harry Potter for a little bit and then Camillo came in and asked me if I was hungry. I kinda stumbled around the issue until ... read more

Now writing is the proud girlfriend of a boy who works 14 hours a day. The concept of working that much in one day seems pretty crazy to me right now but then again I just got out of college where I was studying for at least that many hours a day and working that much seems to not be that uncommon around here. Yesterday I had a bit of an emotional rollercoaster morning but after that it seemed to make everything better - which is always good. I slept through the time when I was supposed to meet Merry and the boys at L Salon so when I did get to the Salon I was a bit upset with myself and a bit loud in general. Camillo basically told me to sit down and shut ... read more

Two nights ago Camillo came home from Shenyang. I was very glad to see him. It was Wednesday so I had to work the majority of the day but when I was finished I called to ask Eason if he wanted me to come over and we had a little debate "you tell me whether to come" "no, you come if you want" "you tell me" etc. I finally decided to go. That night L Salon was decorating itself for Christmas. I walked in and Kast was standing on a ladder in the back fixing what looked like a huge silver ring (I'm still not sure what it's supposed to be). Some of the other boys including Camillo were standing on chairs in the front fixing christmas wreaths and decorations over the light fixtures. It was ... read more

Last time I went to the gym I met this man who I've been seeing there fairly regularly named Lou. I was complaining that every time I work out I get smaller and everyone keeps saying I'm getting smaller. In reality I don't want to get smaller but get bigger muscles. Lou said that working-out is a destructive thing to your body and in order to get bigger muscles you need to space out what you're working on a bit more. If you run and do your arm muscles one day don't do them the next day but the following day. Lou also said that sleeping and eating are key to getting stronger. It all made a lot of sense so I hope it's true cause that's what I'm going to follow. Yesterday I woke up ... read more

Thursday night I had a pretty .... interesting night. It's a bit personal but basically Craig told Camillo something that made him come on to me much stronger than I'd ever wanted him to. It was really an uncomfortable night and took me a long time that night to get to sleep. Although the night made me really feel like crap during the day on Friday I ended up having a really kick arse night on Friday night. Did my usual tutoring of Will and Sally during the day and then went over to HaoSha to work out. One of the workers at the gym told me that my coach had said I was getting in good shape so I was really thrilled about that. Went over to the Salon as usual and Camillo was playing ... read more

Yesterday I had a really great time at the Salon again. During the day I just had two tutoring students - Sally and Joe. Sally was a handful as usual. Sometimes I'd swear we were baby-sitting her instead of teaching her. Joe was awesome as usual. I was telling Cat that teaching Joe is like teaching Camillo. Not in that they're at the same level but in that they're both so freaking pumped about learning. I'd love to teach kids like that all day long. It's really obvious when someone really is into learning something like that and it makes it really fun to teach them. Joe is at a funny level to teach because he's basically fluent in English and so one has to come up with random debates for him to work out or ... read more

I was thinking to myself this morning that learning a language is like climbing up a really steep mountain. It takes you a long time to get to the top and every now and then you feel like you aren't climbing at all. Sometimes there are cliffs or points when you feel like you're going down the mountain instead of up and other times you feel like you're climbing really fast when in fact you're going no where. I've never really climbed a super steep mountain so I'm not sure how well that analogy works but that's what I feel like it is in my head. We had our usual "work your arse off" weekend. Saturday night I went out to dinner with Cat, Craig, Tony and his little sister. We went out for hot pot ... read more

We had a really great time last night. I went to HaoSha and was able to work out for a little bit which felt really nice. Then I went over to L Salon and got my hair dryed (as usual). It took him half an hour (as it takes a long time with all of the good hairdressers) and then I had to go meet Merry at the bus stop to show her to L Salon. We had about 40 minutes to waste before we met everyone so we just went around the mall and shopped a little bit and showed Merry HaoSha (as she'd never seen it before). Jimmy was playing with a bunch of the dogs in the pet shop next to L Salon and they were so adorable. One had a couple of ... read more

So I finally truthfully figured out why I can't understand the Guan Dong slang as much as I can Dalian slang. The true reason is because Guan Dong slang is a slang of Cantonese, not a slang of Mandarin (like Dalian slang is). Therefore, like Merry said even people from around here can't understand the Guan Dong slang very much (because it's a slang of an entirely different language). Not really too much else to write about. Yesterday we had class as usual, all day long. It's still a bit tiring to have seven hours of class in a row. Afterwards I went with Merry over to her place and had dinner next to her dorm. She knows the owner of a little noodle place. It's not exactly an American version of sanitary but there are ... read more
