Gặp lại bạn cũ cũng rất vui, bố mẹ ... read more

If there is one image of China that was in my mind before I came to this country, it was that of the great wall… pictures of which adorn the covers of ‘100 things you must see before you die’ (and other such books), not to mention the numerous documentaries and ‘Wish You Were Here’ TV programs we’ve all seen growing up. This wall has a lot to live up to! The wall has scattered remains running all the way from Liaoning Province (east of Beijing) to Jiayuguan in the Gobi Desert. The main touristed part is called Badaling, this is where all the postcard perfect pictures are taken (they must be taken before it opens), this part of the wall is fully restored and the view of it meandering over the hilltops is said to ... read more

I'm speechless. This was truly the most amazing experience of my life. For as long as I can remember I have dreamt of seeing the Great Wall of China. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that it was possible to actually hike on remote, unspoiled areas away from the busy tourist spots littered with vendors selling tshirts and other souvenirs. After contacting a guide from a local Beijing hiking club and organizing a few folks from the hotel where I am staying, my dreams became reality. We left early from the hotel and drove 2 hours north through the Chinese countryside and into the mountains where we arrived at a small village tucked into a valley covered with plum trees. There we met our guide - a small Chinese woman in her 40's who did ... read more

I never elaborated on the bungee jumping. I wasn't really in the mood to discuss how much of a chicken I was that day!! I watched like 10 people go before me and the guy working said 1..2..3..JUMP and they all did. but when it got to my turn i stood at the ledge of the tower, looked down and thought what the hell is gonna catch me when i jump. He told me to dive as far away from the tower as possible and all I wanted to do was slide down the pole! I heard my friends yelling jump and korean kids saying jump please, in korean! I didn't jump when he counted and he was so cute. he told me to take my time, take a deep breath and jump when i was ... read more

This article is dedicated to Yuki and her parental units, for easing the burden for our wallets and route plan making. Actually they have done nearly every thing for us over the last couple of weeks, booked our trains, organised places to stay, fed us extremely well. We set off to China via the very efficient Hong Kong underground. We had heard tales of extremely long waits getting through the passport control at China's boarder, so we went with time to spare to meet Yuki. We was through the control point in under five minutes, and it would have been shorter if they did not pass my passport around, believing that the short spiky haired and chubby faced picture it held, may not be me. So we was here in China. First up Shenzhen. We stayed ... read more

Shan and I made the journey to the Great Wall and it was fantastic. The sky got bluer and bluer as we left the city. Living in the city has made me realize what a country girl I am and how much clean air and trees mean to me. I like living in the city things are hustling and bustling but the quiet of papas back yard and the pond are greatly missed. Going to the great wall and seeing the mountains was so great I could have taken my book and stayed there forever. I got to know Shan more as well spending the day with her was great. ... read more

31st August 2006 Today we visited our highlight and reason for coming to Beijing - The Great Wall. There are various areas of the wall that are open to visitors and within reach of Beijing. We chose Simatai, renowned for being steep, picturesque and with the added bonus of being less popular with the coach loads of tourists, due to its location. At around 8am, we caught a bus to Miyun and from there we picked up a taxi which was to take us on our round trip to Simatai. In all the journey was close to 4 hours, but it was worth it. The approaching road teased you with what was to come, the vision of the wall high on the peaks of the mountains above. It already amazed us how such a thing could ... read more

We’ve been here for a week and will be exploring China over the next 3-4 weeks. A couple of days ago we went to see the Great Wall courtesy of Ting's Tours and had a fantastic experience. We were able to walk large sections of the original, unrestored Wall, in great condition, and the only other people we saw in several hours were our guide and the British couple we were with. And we only had to drive an hour farther than the people visiting the rebuilt, commercialized sites so popular with travel companies! If anyone is planning a trip to Beijing and the Great Wall we cannot recommend Ting’s tour highly enough. For contact information please see Ting's web page at TingsTours. ... read more
