Thur 29th Packed the tent up with Dani for the last time and carried all my stuff to the new truck. Then everyone who hadn’t been to the falls yet got into a truck and went with minimal clothing and belongings as we got told everything got wet went to the falls. I love my waterproof camera for times like this. The falls were spectacular they are a mile and half across and you cant see the bottom as there is so much water going down it sprays back up so high that it rains from above and below. We went to the market outside the falls and you get bombarded with people trying to sell stuff. I ended up buying a giraffe for 4 dollars and a hair band! Back at the campsite we ... read more

Wed 28th Up for 7.15 to go on a Bush walk to see the white rhinos. The reserve only has 2 left after 2 died of old age and 2 drowned in the river- Rhinos can't lift their heads above their shoulders so drown if fall into water. There was only 2 of us on the walk which was great. We got quite close to a giraffe as well as a dung beetle! We made a toothbrush out of a twig, saw the inside of a termite mound and learnt 2 cures for asthma- first drinking rhino pee or more favorable steaming a plant that smelt like heather. We finished the walk with a picnic by the river. I spent the afternoon by the pool and in the evening we all went for dinner at ... read more

Over the falls Africa » Zambia » Livingstone By TamsinMarch 27th 2007Tamsin Sebba Tue 27th We had a ferry crossing into Zambia. The crossing is the only place in the world where 4 countries meet. They are Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana. We luckily had our visa’s wavered but the police stopped us further up the road and they wanted some papers or some money but Frik sorted it out. We arrived at the waterfront campsite near Livingstone where the first part of our tour officially finished. Dani and I put up our tent and at 12 we watched a video of the activities we could do at Victoria Falls. Unfortunately the rafting is shut as the river is too full but after w... read more

Hello All Welcome to my adrenaline page! I know it has been forever since I have written a blog and I should really be filling you in on my life for the past 6 months....and I will I promise...just thought I should close this chapter first! To be honest I thought I had already published this entry...ooops! So I decided that January was my month of adrenaline....or at least it was the start of my adrenalinejunkiness! I am actually wishing that I could have gone skydiving as well but the money situation didn't’t quite allow for it. Oh well another time! This was a good way to start out the New Year! First of all I decided that it would be a good idea to go bungee jumping. The thing is that there really is no ... read more

No trip to Southern Africa would be complete without a visit to Victoria Falls. We had the choice of visiting the falls from either Zambia or Zimbabwe (or both). Due to visa costs and other recommendations we chose the Zambian side and did not regret it. Livingston is a great town, it felt like we were in Africa again. The falls did not disappoint at all, they were incredible. Hey, I think I can even use the word awesome in it's true context. They are 1.7km wide, 108m high and have an average flow of a million litres per second. Yes, I did say second. Apparently at peak flow in May it can be 9 times more than that. The result of this massive amount of water throwing itself off a cliff, is not only a ... read more

After travelling through Muslim countries and countries where dress was fairly conservative, Karen commented as she left the hotel room in shorts and a singlet top that she felt quite underdressed. Two seconds later, we spotted a man walking to the restaurant wearing nothing but speedos and flip flops. And that set the tone for our second Vic Falls stay - laid back and completely comfortable. We were a bit apprehensive about coming back. I mean, we weren't sure if there would be water this time around. As the plane landed at Livingstone airport, we tried to spot the spray of the Falls but were unsuccesful. We jumped on the transfer to the Zambezi Sun hotel (doing it in style this time!!) and were soon kicking back in our air conditioned room. We didn't stay there ... read more

To say I was apprehensive about this little escapade would be an understatement, but i went ahead and did half a day. The section of the Zambezi we did was the first ten rapids starting from the Boiling Pot, just after the end of the waterfall section. We had a leader who was manic but I think very good. There were six of us on the raft with Boyd at the rear, the one thing that we became very familiar with on the raft was teh rope around the side - the "Oh Shit!" rope. We were taught to paddle forwards, backwards, sit down and get up. Easy huh? Well our raft was the first of five to get through the first rapid without capsizing, we took three attempts but felt very pleased with that. Should ... read more
